Note to the fans: Might not be around much for a few days, have to manage without me.
Note to the Non-fans: See if you can get along without me.

we in theory will be moving in the relatively near future. That seems like a good time to give it a try, as long as we end up in an area with reception.

If I lived in an area where they had Chevron or Texaco stations (same thing, different name) I'd To get to DC from where I am I take the Parkway to the Cape May Ferry. Immediate 75-minute break and take back roads through Delaware and Maryland. You're in farmland almost until you actually hit CD.
Oh, and I've been over all of those "scary" bridges multiple times. Love 'em.
Mike, you got a point on the Queensboro but the GWB was designed from the start to have the lower level. They just didn't get around to it until 1957. That' the last work on crossing the River from Jersey into NYC.
Do note, no matter what you're crossing, it costs money to leave New Jersey but they let you in for free.
Fez, I have never taken the ferry. It is definitely out of the way for us. But I have taken the back way to avoid 95 and DC/Baltimore entirely. You do go through a fair amount of nothing. Have also taken the long way home from NC by going all the way out 64 to Norfolk, then up over the CBBT and up the Delmarva. Getting to be too much congestion and lights now. used to be a lot quicker.

I’m off too - up to Ponte Vedra for a weekend at the Players Championship. We have passes for Saturday and Sunday at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. Praying for good weather
Have a good time and try opening up the S450.......it probably needs some carbon blown out!

My brother is moving from 1400 sq ft apartment to a 400 sq ft retirement apartment. It is taking a month to clear out his stuff......he is a hoarder. In one drawer I found about 15 nightlights in packages, and 6 extra bulbs. I found about 10 boxes of 6 lightbulbs...must have a thing for lights. About 8 new pairs of pajamas, some in original packages, 5 extra pairs of new shoes and boots. He got a new flat screen TV but kept his old cathode one just in case of a breakdown. About 20% of his stuff is getting moved, the rest goes to junk. There is no market for old furniture....they can make more hauling it away than they can trying to resell it.
Good luck hope it all goes well. I also found out, lots to do when you move, notify cable company, telephone, electric, insurance, license and on and on....I hope I never move again.

When we moved here, my wife wanted at least basic cable, although I'm not sure why since she never watches. Our promo plan ends next month, so I'll likely drop to just internet again.

More likely, I would buy the new place first and have 2 temporarily, though that can lead to the situation you are in if things go south. Would have to be really comfortable with the deal under contract, or have plenty of back up interest. We did that when we bought this house. At least gives you time to spruce up the new place, plus we might be buying a full "fixer uppper" and I want to fix before I move in.
the other idea, which the wife is still skeptical of, is renting a place where we want to go, while we find/build/remodel a new place. That really takes all the pressure off! we did that on the house before this one (we were building new, and sold our old condo quicker than expected, so went to an apartment for 3 months). In a way, actually more relaxing.

I have not had much problem with most water crossings in my years of driving. I was a bit intimidated my first few times using the bridges and tunnels in the Norfolk/Hampton Roads area but in the end find them far less scary than certain high bridges. I had two bridges that I found spooky. The first was the Quebec Bridge, which was not helped by my parents telling me about its two failures during construction as we were crossing it when I was a kid:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_Bridge
The second and more scary one was the old Sunshine Skyway, which seemed designed to terrify the users:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_Skyway_Bridge#Original_bridge
I remember driving across this in the early '80s after the accident and seeing the remains of the fallen section in the bay below. Add to that the steep inclines of the approach ramps and what I recall as being an open grid steel deck on the span and it was a scary crossing.

It's main issue is that it's a toll road and the freeway alternative is only 4 miles or so longer. So it was way underused and it didn't raise enough in tolls to properly maintain the road. The current toll for this road is $5.00 for a car.

I've got a few minutes to expand on the goings on around here.
The folks buying our house are totally cool with us living in it for a few days before we move out. Of course, we also wrote them a $500 check as a damage deposit, which we will get back this weekend. After the movers come through, we'll give the house one last cleaning.
I wish the same could be said for the folks we bought our house from. A little backstory on it - the house is in a new development, only 2 years old. The husband got transferred out of state for work, which prompted the sale. We never met them - they signed the closing documents on Wedensday, and we did our part yesterday. The handoff has been less than pleasant - we got no codes for the garage or front door (it has a keypad, too). The fan in the laundry room doesn't seem to be working. No instructions on where the mailbox is (they are grouped in clusters around the neighborhood). And, once we had a chance to take a good look at it, we found it was pretty dirty.
Therefore, it is going to get a good scrubbing before we move in tomorrow (we've taken stuff over already, but mostly clothes). Carpets will get deep cleaned, baseboards wiped down, all surfaces will get a once over. The granite countertops were never sealed, so that is getting done, too.
My stepson is giving the gift of time and effort this Mother's Day weekend by doing some handyman stuff around the house:
New ceiling fans in bedrooms and great room.
Block off access to under the deck - don't want the dogs getting under there
Install a new front screen door
Put up a rod to hang clothes from in the laundry room
I'm at home keeping the dogs company, though I'm sure I'll have more to do later today.

Ah, that's unfortunate. Reminds me of when I closed on my house years ago. The sellers seemed very pleasant and accommodating before the closing, but on the day itself they (or their lawyer, not sure) suddenly got very difficult. I had movers loading my stuff into the van while I went to my lawyer's office for the closing, only for him to tell me they were balking about something to do with the transfer of funds from my bank to theirs and would not turn over the keys. After bunch of urgent phone calls to the bank and the respective lawyers it ended up with the movers parked out front waiting for me to arrive with the keys to let them in and cost me a couple of extra hours of their time before I could move in. And after all that half the keys I got did not even work. Really kind of soured me on the sellers.

Wow, that’s nasty. I always thought folks up your way were civil and nice.
I remember when we were in the process of buying our current house (20 years ago now), I was at my agents office for something, and there was a family sitting in the lobby, looking unhappy. I asked about it, and the agent told me that they were buying and selling, same day. so they had everything loaded on a moving truck, closed on the old house, then went to close on the new one. And something went haywire, and they could not close. So everything they owned was on a truck (meter running), the old house was gone, and they had no place to go. Oops.
no clue if they worked out the details finally, but my (at this point very fuzzy) recollection was that the deal was dead, short of a bunch of legal wrangling which is not always quick.
made me glad that we were able to overlap (we bought the new house and carried both for a bit). Not the most cost effective way to do it, but much more convenient!

We've asked our agents to get in touch with the sellers agent for the access codes.

Sellers of our house left me a manual, a bunch of spare parts, keys to everything, and then emailed me about a month after we moved in to find out what questions we had and if everything was OK. Almost fell off my chair when I received that email.

We were super-high-tech this year and watched the Super Bowl via streaming. However, we had to steam at a very low resolution since our service is rather pathetic. We streamed it through my wife's laptop (and it didn't look too bad on that, but it was very small) to our flat screen, which is something like 40", and we could see the action, but not really the details of faces and whatnot.
All in all, it worked out okay.
I don't miss ready access to "TV." Not one bit. If you have modern internet access, you can even watch most television shows (anything on the major providers) via the corporate websites. They do have commercials, but still far fewer than what is on the airwaves, and you can watch them any time you want. Most limit access to a small window around he original air date, but that small window is 2-3 weeks, so lots of time there.
However, as with most of my life, I'm so unconventional that I really don't have a clue about the experiences y'all relayed here! When I bought my current place, it was just a swath of forest next to an overgrown lane. I even dug my driveway out of the hillside myself. It's going to feel kinda strange when we move on from here.
Just about never watch news or series. Occasionally, a movie. OK, we do watch some of those home improvement/sales series.
