good news, Genesis is under BtoB warranty for 5 years, so no need for an extended warranty, or expensive maintenance plan since I think that is covered too.

I'd say with complete confidence that non-partisan sources such as AP and Reuters are far more reliable than FOX or CNN or other mainstream entertainment masquerading as news sources, not to mention the real wacko outlets like Breitbart. Virtually every source that charts media bias puts those first two firmly in the middle, too. The problem with "facts" in this brave new world is that wingnuts think facts can be subjective and "alternative".

I hate to tell you this but AP and Reuters are just as susceptible to this. The thing is you should get your news from a variety of sources and wait until you get all the facts before making judgments.

A friend of mine also checks out BBC and NHK.
I remember when network news reporters would admit to taking crib notes of various BBC news summaries. The excuse given at the time was "everybody does that." But I don't think we'll ever have a greater resource for breaking news and accurate predictions than Dick Loudon's "Book Talk." Years ahead of its time. Just a 6 minute snippet of a 1984 interview with "Up The Amazon" author and retired Air Force Colonel Lloyd Menninger.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2H-9OmErYQ
    Highlights include:
2:00 - Fate of the dinosaurs
3:00 - Actual unretouched photographic proof
    3:30 - Extraterrestrial life
5:30 - Takeover of the major news media
And an off camera accusation of Dick's secret political affiliation near the end of this expose. 1984 indeed.
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.

I'm really getting to hate day traders. :@

Working today and spent the last two hours simply entering stock transactions for one client into our tax program.

That’s my new “job.” Day trading, not entering taxes. But when I did my taxes for the past year, my trading entries was simple. Etrade popped out a report but my only task was to enter the tally and send in the report with my taxes. Very simple.
If you use TurboTax, you can download the whole report from your account, and you don't have to enter anything.
Exactly what I’m doing. Things got convoluted given I had to take some capital gains, and move some money around given my retirement. But, TT made it as painless as possible, given the check I’ll be writing for my tax payment on those gains (that’s going to be super painful).

Separate topic, but COSTCO buying program has been trying to call me (leaving voice mails) regarding the scathing review of the dealership I went to when casually looking at a Chevy Volt.

They keep emailing me wanting to know when there would be a good time to chat. I just emailed them back that there’s no need to talk about it. I described how the sales person dissed me on both the appointment he set up with me, and the arrogant follow up. Nothing more to discuss. He difficult can that be to understand?

    @abacomike
Why not shop the E to Carvana and Carmax to see what they believe the value is.
What do you estimate is the real price you paid at purchase and the current value
of the E. How long have you owned it? I'm curious about the per year cost.

I consider the real purchase price of a new car with a trade to be difficult to come
up with. Folks were often criticizing GM that the sticker price was higher than
the real sale price for the vehicle, but would use the sticker price minus the trade
in price and talk about the high cost per year instead of using the real purchase
pricing and real trade in /sale value at the end.

But on the case of my '14 Malibu, what I paid for it was below the GM employee/retiree
price. I figured that out from the phone call the salesman in the next booth had with
a retiree calling about cars on the March sale Chevy was having. So my real
cost per year has been lower than most would calculate.

OTOH I've often felt that a higher priced car can be purchased at a nice price
and then traded at a higher price than my ordinary Chevy type pricing. So the
cost per year of the premium car is not much more than the lower end car pricing.
For me it came down to the dealership and customer service. E.g., when the Cruze
needed the plastic thermostat housing and associated plastic branches replaced and
had to be left for service into Tuesday, the
customer service manager (an Ex Sweeney employee) gave my son a loaner
car even though the Cruze was not purchased through that dealership.

And back to owning a Genesis, does Genesis have the reputation of being
as much a stickler about service verification for warranty. IOW if you get the
wrong date or mileage on a service record, does that invalidate the whole
warranty? It's a Hyundai/Kia product, not matter the lipstick.

I doubt many people are doing DIY maintenance on a new genesis. I think you get 3 years included anyway. Plus concierge treatment.

To me that's the biggest downside of a Genesis. You can look at @graphicguy and his Kia dealer experience with the Stinger as well. You might get a good dealer that treats you in the way a premium motorcar purchaser expects, but you might also get one that treats you the same as an Elantra purchaser.

I was lucky with my Genesis. The Hyundai dealer truly was a gem to deal with. This was also back in 2009, I would hope they have gotten better since then.

My sons dealer is really good. Just a hassle being not very close. One reason he might not get another one. I’m surprised they haven’t opened a dealership in Albany yet, but that whole Genesis dealer situation was bizarre.

Maybe I’m weird, but I care about the car way more than some dealer experience. Plus I try to buy something where I won’t see the dealership very often. As long as they have a good quality service department, and I’ve found that with cheaper brands plenty of times. About the only premium perk I want is loaner cars.

Wagon... Need the cargo footprint, and prefer the better handling. Also when I haul multiple bikes, the roof rack is easier to deal with than on the higher roofline of a SUV. Yes, I compromised when I replaced the Volvo.

Leaving now for dealership to finalize everything. Assuming all is to my liking, I will be driving home in a new G90 sedan. Wish me luck.

Do you prefer to buy a sedan or an SUV and why?

My head and my heart says YES to a 4-door sedan but on the other hand my body says yes to the SUV. What a conundrum. In the Caribbean, my SUV is versatile and practical that allows me to go off the beaten track that is not possible with a traditional sedan. At my age, it is increasingly getting more difficult to enter and exit the newer sedans since they are so low to the ground. But the driving dynamics, serenity and ride quality of a sedan is so superior that it makes buying a sedan a no brainer.

My wife, who in the past would never consider an SUV now says she will never return to a traditional sedan. She likes the easy ingress/exit, high driving position and better visibility of an SUV not to mention the perceived safety touted by her friends and news reports. The recent Tiger Woods accident removed any doubts of an SUV's safety. And for women drivers, safety sells.

So what would I buy? I would split the difference and as a compromise I would strongly consider one of those new CUV full plug-in EV's such as the 310 mile range 2022 Nissan Ariya.

Mike, sounds like a sweet early Easter deal to me. With concierge service you will never have to set foot in the dealership's showroom again. By the way, do you get a free monthly wash and shampoo? And one last thing, does the G90 come with night vision a la Cadillac Escalade? I really like that feature.

That's a very healthy trade on a pre-facelift car, they aren't going to get rich on that deal, not bad. I recall your E was a "sport" model, so the ride will be night and day - IMO MB tunes the suspension on some of these cars much firmer than it should. Enjoy the Korean Bentley! ;)

One Stinger forum had a recent post from a guy who took his Stinger in for service and then found greasy fingerprints and red shop rag lint all over his car’s dash and glove box- apparently left by the alleged “technician” who replaced the cabin filter.

Another Stinger owner found that the “tech” had written the oil capacity on the engine cover with a Sharpie.

More than a few Stinger owners have had the side skirts of the car mangled by not lifting the car properly.

At least once a week the Stinger FB page has a complaint-usually with photographs-depicting where a dealer scratched, dented, or otherwise damaged a Stinger brought in for service.

I’d hope a standalone Genesis dealer would be several orders of magnitude better.
In Louisville however, the Genesis models are in the same showroom as the Hyundai vehicles. Being part of the Oxmorons dealer group I wouldn’t try to buy a Genesis- or any other car- from them.

I happen to think they should have made Stinger part of Genesis lineup, not Kia's. G70 is NOT an equivalent vehicle, may have some similarities, but too many differences, so Stinger would complement the lineup well. Or they could make a sports hatchback variant of G70, like 430 GC is to 330 sedan.

Edmunds “suggested price” was at $71,964. MSRP is $74,375. I paid $69,233 + dealer fee ($899), so just over $70,000 + 6% sales tax on difference of sales price and $56,000 trade value.

Sound system is superior to MB. 900 watts with 16 speakers. The learning curve to figure out how all this stuff works is going to be long and tedious. They have a special concierge who works wit Genesis customers. Interior is black with ventilated seats.

Wood interior is similar to the color of the car.
