I’ve got to share this story…

I had a lunch meeting today and arrive about 10 min early. Restaurant is still locked up despite it being 11:20. So I wait for my supplier to arrive and people watch. I see this petite, gray haired lady getting out of a beautiful E36 M3 in Estoril Blue. She makes her way to the restaurant and I can’t help but make conversation. She’s 81 and she and her deceased husband are the original owners. And yes, its a stick! She said her son asks her to drive one of her other 2 cars as he’s afraid someone is going to take the M3 from her. She won’t do it, loves it too much. About once a week someone offers to buy it from her she said.

She even apologized to me because it was dirty. The inside is immaculate, she assured me.

One of the nicest, most genuine people I’ve ever met.

I guess I see it but still seems too high by double to me. You are right it isn't a 5k car but is it really at 10k plus car?

I like those year Camaros overall. I would take a late 80s IROC with a late 90s LS drive line. Those fourth gen F-bodies are a pain to work on with the way the engine is stuffed in there.

WHOA, some stuff from the fifty’s is still valuable today, like the ‘55 and ‘57 Chevy’s and they’re probably worth more than that 80’s thingamagig.

As luck would have it my first car was a ‘56 Chevy that I bought used from a sickly uncle in ‘61. That gutless 6 cylinder wasn’t worth much back then and even less today.

Some stuff is. But I think a lot of that era is stagnant or falling now. Some of the 80s stuff is really hot.

10K minimum I think - it would be lower if not an IROC. This is assuming it is in great condition, with those painted louvers and what looks like a questionable aftermarket hood I have a few doubts, but I think a preservation piece IROC if sold on BaT would do well. Objectively it may be inferior to a modern car, but people like the retro aesthetic.

The cut-off point seems to be 1955, and even those values are pretty stagnant save for the best of the best concours or rare option cars. Driver quality 57 Chevies are not soaring in value. Cars before 1955 are pretty stagnant aside from rarities or exotics. Those and ordinary prewar cars have not provided a great ROI over the past 30 years. Good for buyers anyway, with inflation, a nice Model A or Edsel hasn't been this cheap for decades.

that is a nice Camaro. Got the 5 speed which is not that common.

the TC I was gonna laugh at, but with the stick, maybe it isn't so bad if cheap enough? Can't deal with the hardtop but can always leave that off!

Those were noted to have all the worst Chrysler components combined with Italian electronics. I always wanted a LeBaron convertible but could never find one with low milage and a low enough price. I got the Sebring instead.

Fantastic interiors in them anyway. They seem to be pretty cheap, in this market and with the growing interest in 80s-90s material, one could do a lot worse.

On the BaT idea, I wish I would have had the space and petty cash laying around to buy this, had my eye on it for some time when the specialist dealer seller had it listed, this would be my Radwood car - I think this was well-bought

I don’t hate the one shown in BAT, either. I think originally, Chrysler’s thinking was way askew. Plus, no one was going to pay that kind of money for what was a gussied up K-Car.

But, if this one comes in at near the current price? I’d think it’s a good deal…especially given it has 3 pedals.

That sucks. Good news that nobody got hurt though.

Seems like they should get a tug connected to keep it from wandering away. And maybe they should have some sort of fire suppression system.

The E-430 looks nice. I'm with you, I would be a nervous Nellie everytime I drove it fearing something going wrong and the cost to repair. Isn't this one of the models with the eco-friendly dissolving wiring harness?

A risk at those miles, but indeed rare so fully equipped- seldom see xenons and comand on non-AMG 210s.

Wiring harness years were ~1992-96. The car in question here could have occasional other quirks, and need regular transmission servicing (these had the BS "lifetime" transmission fluid IIRC), and can fare poorly in rusty climates, but otherwise aren't too bad - it didn't rack up those miles by being broken down.

The mileage is the only thing that really appeals to me in terms of reliability...if I could flip it in whatever state for $2500...

After seeing legit street cars work on a few, including a full maintenance on a prior gen C class 350, they really don’t look that bad. Pretty well designed and easy ish to service. A good Indy should keep you in business cheaply.

Note: does not apply to V12s, turbos and probs the V8 models!

Stopped in at a Toyota dealer to pick up a few cars Enterprise bought. Had some time so talked with a sales guy about the new Corolla Cross. Not sure if he was bs'ing me but said they only have afew coming in the next few weeks. First off, they add an ADM fee of $6488/vehicle now over MSRP! I thought that was outrageous to be honest as no way am I going to pay an ADM fee on a Toyota Corolla, no way and even paying MSRP for on is ridiculous. Let's be honest here, they're not a highly coveted vehicle in any form but that extra ADM fee was truly ridiculous. I then asked about ordering one specked out the way I want but he said Toyota isn't taking any orders.
This was at Delray Toyota in Delray Beach, Florida. Gave the guy my name & number as the unit coming in the end of the month is the XLE that I want in the Windchill Pearl color that I want and it's supposed to have the JBL audio system and the moon roof option. If it in fact does come in. I'll go see it and then decide. He said most incoming vehicles are already spoken for so that's why I gave him my info...hopefully it's been reserved in my name. I'm finally ready to let go of the Golf but, am not going to pay a ridiculous price to get a Corolla Cross. I can definitely wait till this crisis is over, I just want to do it sooner than later.
My closer dealer where I was employed, seems to still have a bunch of units in stock so have decided that next Thursday when I have a full free day, I'll go over and test drive one. Really need to get it over to the house to see how it'll fit on my side of the garage. If it fits, great, I'll know that I can move forward & see about buying one. But, if like the Jetta, which we got home to find it just fit but with almost no room at all, I'll know that I just will have to go smaller, something more like a Hyundai Kona size that I know will fit since it's smaller than my current Golf. Just hoping that this won't be the case as I would like the Corolla Cross to be honest. Next Thursday will work great since no one will be home and I can do the "garage test" with no outside chatter. Haven't brought this up with anyone in the family yet and have decided not to until I know it fits. Have a feeling I'll be buying but more towards the end of the year anyways.
