I would think it is your problem. no different than if you left it at a restaurant or train station. Different than if the mechanic drops it off the lift, or wrecks it out test driving it.

    Here’s a hypothetical question.

Say you drop your car off at a repair shop after hours using the night drop and before they open in the morning your car gets stolen. Who, other than the thief is liable?

I’ve seen legal videos discussing what happens if you car is damaged by repair shop staff but never anything about liability for simply being on their property.

I’d think it would be your own insurance comprehensive claim unless cameras showed someone damaging it

Not a fan of hers, but I believe Serena is playing doubles in Eastbourne. She won in a 3rd set tiebreaker today. Saw her play Lee Na in Cincinnati semifinals 6 or 7 years ago. Saw Nadal, Delpo and Isner play. Pretty cool. But Wimbledon is something special. Looking forward to those "breaking news" stories.

Let's not talk about womens shoes. My wife has more than 60 (I stopped counting at that point).

I would think that it would depend on the laws in your particular state. It's not really the same if you leave it at a restaurant or a train station. If you just park the vehicle and keep the keys then most state laws treat it as you retaining possession of the car. Now if they had custody of the keys, especially if they are profiting from it, then responsibility for the car can shift to them. Again this may vary by state and how they look at bailment.

I am not a fan of Serenas. I would like to see Nadal and I like the 19 year old kid Carlos Alcaraz, he plays like the top guys. We are at a hotel in Brighton, a beautiful 68 Mustang convertible parked outside, with 3 pretty models, but Mrs D100 wanted us to go and check in. :#
Some of the new young women players are great to see, like Swaetek.
Serena is good, but the new younger players are more exciting to watch.

I've mentioned this before, but back in 2007 we were remodeling our kitchen and my wife wanted to install a double convection oven. On another forum I asked about the best oven brands and one guy opined that she probably didn't need a double oven. I replied:

"my wife doesn't ask why I want a 300+ hp 155 mph car to drive to work, and I'm not asking her why she needs a double oven. Hell, I don't care if she gets a triple oven."

I was just reading an article about Rolexes recently. Apparently, the least expensive Rolex retails for around $14k. However, this same model sells for about $40k on the secondary market.

One of the many things in this world I don’t understand. A Rolex doesn’t do a damned thing more than a lowly $99 watch. Yeah, someone will say a $99 doesn’t do anything a $10 can’t, but I’m ballparking $99 to at least look good and be quality materials.

Not to mention for $10 Rite Aid won't honor the warranty or price tag for a return.
Usually, the more expensive watches feel better on the wrist. I have a $30 watch with velcro band that I use for tennis....my good watch is metal and I have cut myself on it. But the $1200 watch is lighter, it is much nicer looking, and it fits better.

You haven't forgiven Right Aid....that watch incident happened about 15 years ago.

You bought a $1200 watch!? How if you don't mind me asking?

It fit so well and looked great so she bought it for me. It is about $20 years ago so it has cost $50 a year.....for a beautiful watch.

Speaking of central air conditioning systems, I bought a replacement system from a local company for $12,000, including installation. In retrospect, I paid much too much for a 4-ton, 13 SEER basic Carrier model. It was supposed to be equipped with a hepa filter system, but instead he said dust, dander and pollen are destroyed electronically and it as equally effective as a hepa filter. But I don't buy it, I think he was using hitech words to confuse me.

And by the way, I told them I wanted to continue using my Nest thermostat, but would you believe they said the electrician took it and instead installed a Honeywell cheapo model. I protested and they sent out a tech who gave me the run around and said the Nest is not as reliable as others. I suspect he did know how to install the thermostat.

My original AC was purchased 28 years ago for $3,500, it was a 4 ton 13 SEER system and involved much more work including electrical wiring, plumbing and a concrete base for the outside compressor and a flat wooden surface for the attic component.

What do you guys think, did I overpay by a factor of 2 to subsidize his children education or was the price reasonable?

for the AV gurus here. what is the best way/place to value or sell used equipment? I really don't want to deal with selling retail on Ebay. Trying to thin out the collection and need to thin out at least 1 receiver (somehow, even though I never use a stereo or have a home theatre, I still have 4 or 5 receivers in the house, and those suckers are heavy!)

looking to sell off my old (30 years? 35? who knows at this point), but the instruction manual was copyright 1988!) Sony STR-AV900.

any guesses on what to ask from a store that buys old stuff? to ask on FB marketplace?

I run across similar items at the thrift shops fairly often, Goodwill, DAV, etc. Something like that would go between $15 and $30, roughly speaking. If you have something of interest to a collector, then the sky is the limit. But the one you mentioned is not a collector's item. Now a Marantz receiver from the 70s, or a top of the line Sansui from that era, big money.

My advice for that old Sony? Donate it to Goodwill, and forget about it.

You can check eBay completed listings to get an idea. Run of the mill 80s/90s receivers on FB marketplace are $40 to $100 depending on the model.

Like mentioned some 70s gear is worth stupid money.

Tape decks and low end CD players are $25-$50 unless they are a super high end model that is rare.

I have a Rado Jubilee watch in 18K gold and ceramics with sapphire crystal and 4 small diamonds (12, 3, 6, and 9). I bought it in the San Fernando Valley in LA 25 years ago for $2200. My Jeweler offered me $3500 for it but I have no intention of selling it. It is a quartz movement and shows the date at the 6:00 position.

It works perfectly and I wear it several days a week. My everyday watch is a Seiko day/date watch with sapphire crystal. They still make great timepieces.

Mentioned I have a “collection” of watches that were either gifted to me or I inherited (Tags, Omega, Ball). I used to wear a Swatch watch before I got the Apple Watch. I will wear the “nicer” watches on occasion. Told my son that he could pick any watch out of my collection to wear now, but eventually he’d get them all.

He chose a Seiko. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Well, I guess it depends on what region of the country you live in on whether you overpaid. You get 3 or 4 estimates? If living in Louisville, you overpaid by around $4,000 for just a basic a/c system. But, you have a electrostatic air filter, I don't know how much they go for. I was a little over 10 grand for mid level Bryant a/c and furnace. 17 seer, 2 stage compressor and blower.

I just had to deal with a dead AC unit. Ended up replacing just the compressor (part under warranty). I got a few quotes on a new unit.

IIRC range was about $3,600 for about a 14 SEER outside unit only (or $5,200 to also replace the inside coil). From my preferred company.

2nd company (they were more of a ripoff I think) was in the 6-9 range for in and out unit parts depending on capacity 14-15 I think) and single or dual stage. More expensive stuff was Lennox.

Note this was keeping the existing furnace and all the vents and piping.

As of two days ago we've been our house for 18 yrs! We had the house built for us. Our initial goal was to move in 5 years, but 2008-09 happened. Then we decided to stay put until my daughter graduated high school in 2020. We're still here! Two years ago we replaced the primary HVAC system (furnace and a/c) with an American Standard Seer 16 system. The furnace is natural gas. I had the existing ductwork modified a little to provide better air flow to the west side of the house. I also had the ductwork resealed at the connections to minimize air leakage. That provided a nice improvement in equalizing temps through out the house. It was a little over $7k. I imagine more expensive now.

When is the sale of your home scheduled to close? Exciting times!

Looks like my son will be moving in with me in several weeks. He is going to drive here (2400 miles). He needs lots of help which I will try to provide - emotional and financial. Will be tough for me, but he is my son and that is a lifelong commitment!

Driving across country by himself, 2400 miles, sounds like a heck of an undertaking for someone who needs "lots of help". Best of luck to both of you. Back in the fall of 2020, when I got out of the hospital, it was either an assisted living facility or staying with someone who could help. Luckily I had someone step up and help, but even after a few weeks when I was able to move back home, I was in no shape for a cross country drive.
