I’ve mentioned before my pet peeve about people who just leave their shopping carts blocking parking spaces and just drive off. While I have some sympathy for people who do that in handicapped spots there’s just no excuse anywhere else.
Today at the supermarket there was a car directly behind me loading groceries. I finished and brought my cart back into the store rather than use the corral. When I got back I see that the woman had just dumped her cart and the wind had blown it into the front bumper of the car next to me scratching the bumper cover. The cart corral was about 15’ away. I brought that cart back in too.
Why are people so selfish. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr! 🤬🤯😤👹

Long ago in a galaxy far away ... Wait, does 1976 count as "long ago"? It certainly seems like it to me. A friend and co-worker bought a new 76 Trans-Am. He left the dealership and headed to work in his brand new car (we were both working the evening shift, 4 to midnight). Along the way he stopped at a supermarket, Safeway if I recall correctly. When he came out of the store, a shopping cart had rolled into the front fender skirt, causing extensive damage. His brand new car was in the shop for nearly a month, and had an immediate downtick in the resale value. A true bummer.

Some years ago I bought my first new car, an 88 VW Fox GL. I had it less than a week and found a shopping cart resting against my front fender. It tore the pinstripe and put a minor dent at that spot. Very minor but I was ticked. I had some touch up paint and lightly filled in the scratch and was able to get some replacement pinstripe to cover the torn area. The damage was so minor I think I was the only one to notice it.

Wow, what a not nice fellow (I removed my own non permissible content), and to try to take his scam on TV. He wasn’t as smart as he thought he was.
I really like the way they find the liars, and this guy was really good at it. For one thing, his lie was so big that you have to tell yourself, "No one is going to make up a story like this". And the mother was really smart checking out the surveillance video and putting it all together. I think that without the video he would have got away with it. And these days, if the guy was that smart, he would assume the chances are he is being recorded if he is in a place of business. Quite a story though!
My first assistant was working out an assault case and the defendant's attorney was asking for probation or HIP(house arrest) because her client said she had a 4 month old baby and was breastfeeding. Her victim told us that was a lie because the baby was stillborn. We looked up the defendants FB page and-sure enough-there was a link to the obituary and the funeral home. We told the attorney and she was furious; she immediately called and confronted the defendant and the defendant said, "But, I AM breastfeeding a friend's baby." The attorney said, "Don't tell me any more BS." The defendant's response? "Well, I could."

Yeh, no one asked about that and I thought about that too. I think a lot of people think the airbags do go off when you are hit from the rear. I got asked that a few times after we were hit by the big truck......and though the car was destroyed the airbags didn't go off.

Most judges wouldn’t know how to judge the technicalities of air bag deployment so they backed away from that statement. The guy had more than enough rope to hang himself on the other parts of his story.

Today I was in a Honda dealership waiting to pick up cars and I couldn’t help but catch some of the transaction between the salespeople and a customer. First, I think they were using the old four square on her to confuse her. Then I could catch snippets of their pitch which included claims that “that other store” is dishonest and will give you a different price if you go there and they couldn’t guarantee the price after today. Then it sounded like they were playing games with the trade. This woman was no push over so they brought in the closer and finally a second closer to high pressure her. I don’t know if she bought the car but I would have walked as soon as they pulled out the 4 square.
While waiting for the cars we came for I wandered around looking at window stickers. One CRV had an “market adjustment” of $1500 and enough mop&glo add-on to raise the price from $34k to $37k.
After all that it came as no surprise that after waiting two hours they had screwed up the paperwork and we left empty handed with our $100k check.

Drove a newer CR-V on Wednesday and was amazed at how smooth the auto tranny was, it was really remarkable! Shame the CR-V is too big for my needs as I did like the way it drove. We'll be getting down to 41- 44 the next three nights which is cold for us. My kid outside Orlando said it'll be in the mid 30's for them. Got asked to work Saturday so agreed as we're short handed this weekend. Won't mind the extra days pay to be honest as I've been dollar cost averaging on a few of my stocks the last few weeks so can use the extra. Not sure if they're going to ask me for Sunday but since it's not my holiday, have no problem coming in if needed. We're open the next two Mondays though...luckily Monday is an n/s day for me.

Well it's -1 out there (-18 for our Canadian friends) with a windchill of -23 (-31 again for our Canadian friends) and I was outside clearing up the snow. They were forecasting 8-12 inches of snow and we have snow drifts as deep as 3 inches so I ask myself why do I listen to snow forecasts?
They are saying that it will be -10 (-23 for those buddies up north) tomorrow morning.

It’s supposed to be in the mid 50s here all morning with heavy rain and wind which will melt all the snow and wash away the salt before it drops into the 20s and they spread the salt again.

my daughter is sweating it out. she is supposed to fly from Albany to Chicago at about 3 tomorrow. right about the time the rain is supposed to stop but temps falling toward freezing. with winds in the mid-upper teens. Between that and the plane having to get out of O'hare to get to Albany, could be a long shot it happens. guess we will know by lunch time. Lucky me, I am on taxi duty!

might work. Even though my phone app says at O'Hare it is -6 with blowing snow and winds, the 6:15 AM flight left Albany on time today and is on schedule into ORD. And the plan for her afternoon flight left Boston for ORD on time too. So as long as they can turn that one around and send it back out to ALB there is a chance. As long as they can get it in the air before it gets too icy here!

The local "forecasters" over-hyped on the snow amounts. They seem disappointed this morning after the overnight snows are 2 inches maybe... Wind blowing really hard. -9 F this morning will continue through the day about like @kyfdx's forcast. I'm in Dayton OH area.

I picked up my daughter at the Charlotte Douglas airport last Monday night around 7pm. She had flown to Tulsa to visit a friend. It took over an hour to retrieve her luggage. When I was finally able to pick her up, after waiting over an hour in the Cell Phone parking area, which was packed with cars, no spots available, she made an interesting comment. She said everyone at the Tulsa airport were helpful and friendly but those in the Charlotte airport were not helpful and quite rude. Oh boy. The airport was super busy Monday night. I can only imagine how busy it will be in the next few days, especially with all the holiday travel and weather cancellations.

An 11-minute dive into the engineering needed for tires for EVs. This is sponsored by the Korean tire company Hankook, but it has some good info. One of the things that cuts down on gas savings with an EV is that you need to buy expensive tires, and also buy them more often. That alone seems to cut the gas savings almost in half. This video says tires wear down 20% faster with EVs, or something like, but anecdotally it seems like EV owners are getting more like 30k-40k out of their tires, instead of the 60k-70k that some can get on tires on ice vehicles. This guy's smile is somewhat annoying in the pic, but again he has some good info.

I didn't. Darn. However, my wife's CR-V has a full tank of gas and remote start, which runs for ten minutes. Probably if I clear the windows first of the so far powdery snow, and then cycle through the remote start three times it should be enough to warm things up? I do plan to drive Christmas morning to go pick up a relative.

was looking good until late morning when they decided to cancel the flight for a "technical" problem with the plane. Of course, just a little too late to get on the 11:30 flight (which left right on time). so rebooked on a flight to Dulles and connection through to Chicago. so far, those are supposed to happen. crossing fingers.
hopefully they at least get to Dulles. a lot more flights from there to Chicago, even if it ends up being tomorrow (there were no options for that out of Albany). and if they get stranded, my sister lives 5 minutes from Dulles so they are covered!
