The way the media handles winter weather is seriously a joke. They overhype it and state the obvious over and over.
I'm afraid that someday it will be like the boy who cried wolf. There will indeed be something truly dangerous in store and people will be so desensitized to their reporting that most will ignore it.
———————————————— I agree. However, I have to give them credit because their predictions are a lot better than they used to be (not 100% better but better) but they don’t have to harp on it. I’m tired of seeing 3 segments of weather in a 30 minute news cast.

No surprises here, typical New England stuff: yesterday 55 degrees, this morning 14. Kept the heat on the last couple of days, just in case of power outage, but luckily none for us. Went out to grab a pizza to enjoy as the expected Pats drubbing plays out. Not as crowded as I thought the world would be,, just threw on an extra layer, no issues. Pats actually exceeding my expectations, they got a couple of first downs! Such a fall from grace.

Wasn't that true of pretty much every technology, at one point?

Apparently the replacement is a DIY process with careful instructions
they include. I'm sure most of the instructions is making all the wiring
safe for working on the battery.
For once, snopes has a reasonably well done fact check

There is a time when you have to pull the trigger and go with it....you have to do that these days with computers, phones, TVs etc......but IMHO not with EVs yet. I bought a pocket calculator when they first came out, it cost $40 which would be like $200 today, and all it did was add, subtract and multiply. Probably bought it too soon, if I waited 50 years I could buy one for $5, and it would do a lot more.
The first pocket calculator I saw in person was bought by one of my coworkers back in the 70s, and as I recall he paid closer to $200 than $100.
If you have a smartphone, you already have a very powerful pocket calculator. And if the calculator that comes with the phone (Android or iOS) isn't powerful enough, you can easily download very powerful scientific calculators. Just as you can pay a lot of money for a standalone OBD II scan code reader, or just buy a bluetooth attachment ($12) and download free (or very low cost) software on your smartphone.

Impressed with the performance on snowy and icy roads today with the new CrossClimate2 tires on my wife's CR-V. Temperature was about 10 degrees when we were on the alternately packed and slushy roads. Even backed out of our icy driveway without drama. These tires also are good with wet roads and in dry conditions, as shown in a Tire Rack 2-minute video. Below that an Uber driver who has 50k on his CC2 tires, and they look like they still have a lot of life left. Finally, there's a Michelin-sponsored test on whether a worn CC2 can be as good as a new budget tire.

Most people don't. I used them almost daily when I was working full time.
I did use algebra and trig in my work, and even on rare occasions some calculus. But I really used Fibonacci Trees and other balanced binary trees more than calculus. Things that I didn't learn in school, but were very necessary in my line of work.

I remember seeing a guy with a pickup shoveling the piles of salt into it. At first I thought it was a truck the borough sent out but I was wrong. This site seemed to be pretty honest about an estimate to replace a Prius battery: Generally, you’ll be looking at about $2,400 - $2,700 for a new Prius battery pack excluding labor costs. With parts and labor costs included, you should expect price ranges going as high as $5,000 or more.

Generally, you’ll be looking at about $2,400 - $2,700 for a new Prius battery pack excluding labor costs. With parts and labor costs included, you should expect price ranges going as high as $5,000 or more.
Note the; "or more".
