We’ve been much cooler here in South Florida than usual for this time of year. Many nights in the upper 40’s and days in the mid 60’s. We’ve experienced cold fronts coming through every 3-5 days. Inside my condo, the temperature hovers between 71 and 73 degrees. For me, that’s cold but I have not turned on the heat yet. Trying to deal with cool temps by sleeping with a heavy comforter.
Had heated steering wheel and heated seats turned on in the G90 quite a few mornings this month.
It's 35 degrees out and I thought that was warm considering what the temps have been here. We have the thermostat set to 68.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Colder than normal in Tampa area too.....highs in the mid 60s which is actually nice for outdoor tennis. I don't mind, back home near Toronto it will be -10 to -16F in a few days.
I wish those Canadians wouldn't send all that cold air down to Florida!
The native Floridians wear jackets and long pants when it is below 60F. The Snowbirds from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and me don't wear all that until it is below 45F.

————————————————My heart aches for you. We’ve had temps in the teens with single digits predicted for next week. I’ll gladly trade with you. And I’m sure there are some in here that will have weather at least as bad as what we’ll be getting and I’m not talking about @xwesx, either.
Still in the mood for complaining? Tell someone who gives a rats you know what.

I went by the airport earlier this week and it was a cold morning, maybe 10 deg F. The Enterprise working lot is visible from the road. They had around 30 or more cars sitting with the emergency flashers operating on most of them. Is that something they do when they start them to warm them up, idle them to charge the batteries, getting ready to move them from the out lot to the parking area close to the airport doors. I think they have parking space in the parking garage that's next to the airport exit doors.
Why would they leave the parking lights flashing on emergency? IS that a way of being sure no one forgets they are idling there? It just looked so odd with most of the cars sitting flashing out of sequence.

Some winters have been much colder with lower lows and bitter wind and drifting snow, but I don't wish the cold normal Artic blasts with the jet stream shifts onto anyone below Georgia.
Stay warm and thank goodness for heated seats and remote start. I wonder if I can get an aftermarket kit for a heated steering wheel AND a backup camera for the Cruze. Might even have one for a 2014 Mercedes as well.

We moved in 2020 and then moved our summer place in 2021. The next move I suspect we make will be downsizing to one bigger house at the shore.
I don’t see us ever selling our current condo there, I’d rent it. $3500+ per week would be hard to pass up.

I know you've done well with your primary residence, but the summer condo you've got is great! That rental income will be awesome once it starts rolling in.

We don’t rent it right now, but our end goal is to live down there year round. We would want something bigger though. It wouldn’t make any sense to sell it when weekly rentals and an off season full time tenant would more than cover the costs. Our mortgage there is very reasonable and somehow the taxes are low for NJ (about a third of what I pay on my primary).

SH was less in taxes than my old house that was worth 1/4 of a shore place. The advantage of having almost no kids to put in school down there.

We do that to get the frost off the windshields so we can drive them to the airport garage. Don’t know about the flashers though. Way back when, they used to leave them running in the parking garage with the flashers on so we knew which ones to take but that practice ended when some low lives decided that was a supermarket of cars to be stolen.

As I told them, our winters are not dissimilar to theirs. It's rainy, cold and damp there just like it is in Southern OH, Northern KY. One year, they actually had snow.
The big difference was I didn't have to pay CA prices, fight CA traffic, pay CA taxes. Yeah, they had the Pacific. But, it's not like it was crystal clear blue like the Caribbean (which I could fly to in a couple of hours).

I don’t think @abacomike was complaining. He was just rubbing it in for his northern poster buddies. It happens every year at this time, we’re used to it. Then again he is an old man and even his car reflects that…it’s Old Man’s Gray.

But then, I’ve been watching some of the aftermath of the Palisades fire. Aside from innumerable buildings reduced to ash, with steel beams twisted like pretzels, the damage to utility infrastructure is enormous. One of the video bloggers has done great work in riding around on his E-bike, which combined with a Press credential gives him access to areas barred to the public, to see the work crews are doing. Along the stretch of the PCH that burned, all of the 50’ utility poles are being replaced and all new cabling needs to be strung to provide temporary power and communications. There is an army of workers and equipment from SoCal Edison, SoCal Gas, Spectrum, Frontier Communications and many subcontractors trying to restore service not so much to those living in the area of destruction because there aren’t many left there because there is little to go back to. But the surviving areas on either end are undoubtedly affected too. The devastation is unreal. It’s also sad to see the burned-out but recognizable hulks of vehicles left behind, lots of Porsches, BMWs, Benzes and the like. Naturally convertibles did not do well but nothing got a free pass in those conditions. Just mind-boggling.
Here’s the YT account with a bunch of videos of the aftermath: https://youtube.com/@santamonicacloseup?si=Nft6ipFACxZdlH8f

Yes.
And I am suffering the consequences of trying to get things done outside prior. Not that I did anything strenuous, mind you. I threw out my lower back quite badly last night by simply bending over outside as I tried to set the ozone machine thingy in the Suzuki. My ability to walk is now greatly diminished and I'm isolated to the couch for the near future.

The car is worth far below the loan owed. They are planning to turn the car back to Ford loan division, who will sell it at a low value I suppose and then the friends will be owing the difference.
Is there any way to get rid of the car to lose a minimum amount of money?
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
I hope you’re back to your old self quickly.
Talk about getting older, lately every time I start to bend over to pick something up from the floor I keep hearing this voice in my head saying ‘don’t do that, you know you’re supposed to bend at the knees when you want to pick anything up off the floor’. Then I hear this other voice that says ‘your knees don’t work like they used to’. So, I just leave it there hoping my anti-gravity machine comes along.
Believe me, I know what you mean.

Don't know what trim they have or mileage or how much they owe but Carvana has a 2022 SE with 17K miles on it for sale for 20,590.
Carmax has 5 22 SE's for sale between 20 and 21K.
No mention of how many years of payments he'd agreed to.
He now realizes he was probably taken by the salesman on the pricing as well as on interest rate, although the friends' credit likely was not great.
I'm guessing with typical years of payments, and 10% interest that $3000 might have been paid off? So $27000 owed? I'm guessing without any calculations here. So the car is worth $20K and FoMoCo likely will sell it for much less than that in a friendly sale to a buyer...
Only thing worse would have been if he'd bought an EV which has gone down in value new and used.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
only other logical option is to find enough money to make up for the negative equity, and sell it for the best deal they can get.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
They should call the bank, and tell them they can't make the payments, and ask if they have some sort of refinance program. Probably not, but it can't hurt. Like the others, I assume their credit is terrible.
They'd have been better off with an EV. They bought the crappiest car possible. And, the absolute slowest new car available that year.

Titanium MSRP was about 30K, so resale doesn't seem too bad. Not sure why.
After went a bit down the Mustang rabbit hole.
Price on this 2012 Boss 302 is pretty insane.

Loan company is FoMoCo credit.
I think they're hoist on the pitard.
BTW, my advice for a second car to purchase for the new driver just like their oldest son when he was a new driver was a used Crown Vic, LeSabre, Hyundai several years old. Not buying a new car.

It is too bad they didn't buy a used car which is all they needed considering their situation and what the car was going to be used for. My sister-in-laws 2008 Impala with 50k miles for $5000 would have been perfect.

given this extra info, what do the owners drive themselves? Is that something they could sell instead, and keep the Ecosport (use the proceeds of the other sale to pay down the loan?)
