    hi everyone,
im new to the board, interested in leasing a 2014 or 2015 3 series. ive never owned a bmw, previously owned a lexus is250. any recommendations or tips before going into the dealership? could someone explain what the residual is? i've look at my local bmw website and it says approx $260/mo for 30month 320i 2014 with $3000 down (cap reduction), 10k a year, offer expires oct 31. is it better to wait until dec for end of year deals?

The residual is the value of the car at lease end, expressed as a percentage of the MSRP. It's an important number when calculating a lease payment.

Year-end is always a good time for car shopping.

I would study up on leasing before taking the plunge. Try these articles:

Base MF is .00129, so the dealer is marking that up on you.

Does the $2200 cover the up front costs, or is some of that going to a down payment?

There might be more room to get a lower sale price, given there is a $2000 innovations credit available.

I was thinking with the upfront costs being $2100 for taxes, fees and first month payment and getting $2200 for my trade that that's pretty much a wash, right?

Thanks for all the help.  You guys really empower any consumer that is willing to take the time understand how to compute a lease and is willing to shop around.

My question is.  When leasing a demo, I was told by dealer that the current miles on the car are multiplied by .20 and that amount is then subtracted from the residual.  It seems like a hefty residual reduction for only a couple k miles.

is this the correct procedure for them to compensate for those already existing miles ?

    Thank you!

Yes, that's correct. That number has varied over the years and can change by model, but it's always been between $0.15-$0.30 per mile..

So.. if you were buying a demo with 2000 miles on it, you wouldn't ask the dealer to knock off at least $400 over a brand-new one?

Hoping someone could clarify somethings for me. I currently have a dealership in my area that has a 2014 320i for $129/month +$5350(36months) due at signing and a 2014 328i for $169/month +$5350 (36 months). How do they calculate the cost of the car once the lease is over to buy? Do you just add up the total amount you paid for the 3 years and deduct it off the total sticker price?

Also is it not very practical to purchase your lease once it ends? I want to keep the minimum payments low as of right now so instead of getting a loan for 72-84 months, I was thinking of just leasing it for cheap and then buying it off finance a shorter loan after 3 years.

How much of the up front cash is buying down the cap cost? Not recommended that you put money down on a lease - if the car is stolen or totalled you are out the money.

If you want to buy, you should buy - trying to do a lease + purchase will almost always cost you more in the long run.

Residual values are set by BMWFS and cannot be negotiated.

Also note that the interest rate on a used car will usually be higher than for a new car.

    Hello,

    Can I have the current MF and residual values for a 2015 320i 36 month & 15k miles/year?

Also, is it likely the $500 innovations credit on this model will continue through November?

    Thank you!

The 36 month residual is just 3% lower and will result in a lower payment.

    A few questions:

What are the new MF and Residual in November for a 2014 320i w/ Nav package 30/10 and 36/10? MSRP is $35, 850. What would be a decent sales price on that with any credits? New ad today shows a 39/10, and looks to be about 62% residual on a $35,300 model but also 2015 model year.

Also on another issue, the local dealer is also offering a "demo" 2014 320i with a price of ~$36,500 (no nav package) but shows an online price of $32,995. It has 7,100 miles. The "deal" is $1,500 total out of pocket and $399/30months, 10k miles, including tax (7%). I have never dealt with a demo lease before, but I feel like this is a little high? Also assuming it is based on the $36k and not the $33k. Salesman gave me a residual of 69% off the $36k price. Not sure what the "new" price was. But assuming could easily get the sales price to the $32,995 (since they are advertising it) and would be around $360/month with nothing down except tags. It is kind of confusing because I am not sure what the original new value was and what the $36k price comes from. Seems high.

    Thank for the help!

What is the November residual and MF for the 2015 335i Xdrive GT ??
    36 months 10k and 39 months 10k?

I see they also added a $1000 happier holiday cash incentive, anything else, like additional dealer hidden cash ?? I see on BMWUSA, All Credits valid through December 01, 2014 and also Credit allowance varies by model, through 1/2/15. What is the difference or is there a possibility of a program change in December ??

Thinking of changing programs as I wail for delivery, currently eligible for:

    36 months 10K, 64% residual and .00129 MF and $500 innovations.

    Thanks in advance,

When I try to back into the math for the current 320i lease special advertised via BMW, I am getting a .00056 Money Factor to get the the $279/month payment with $2,750 cap reduction. That is with the $1,000 credit applied to the MSRP to lower sales price to 34,300 from advertised 35,300 model. Is this credit form BMW applied in a different manner in order to hit the .00130 MF posted and 62% depreciation?

You can't reverse engineer the MF from the other information provided.

The .00130 is this month's MF for the 39 month special, which can be bought down with MSD to .00081.

The special also assumes a 'dealer contribution' (aka discount from sticker) before the credit is applied. That may also be goofing up your math.

Thanks Michaell... so it looks like it's the 1,000 credit, plus a "dealer contribution" of another 1,500 to get to 280.43 (close enough) with .00130, 62% and the 2,750 cap cost reduction

    Thanks in advance,

    .00130 and 63% for 39 months, 10K per year. $1000 holiday credit.
So the residual for 36 is the same ?? 63% but because of an additional 3 months payments we see a lower payment?? does the additional $500 off set the lower residual and higher money factor ?? I'm not the best as numbers BMWUSA but just asking ?? Above my pay grade, just a follower, perhaps the last thru the gate :)

I don't have any 36 month numbers for November, so cannot say with certainty if they are higher than or equal to the published 39 month numbers.

Often, a finance company will offer a better residual on a 39 month lease (Chrysler did that last month) to help move inventory .. in general, a longer term will result in a lower payment, all else being equal.

$500 equates to about a $13/mo savings on your payment over 39 months. Might offset the lower residual and/or higher MF.

Thanks for the input… as to MF and residual…once available for the difference from 36 to 39 I would appreciate it…

As trying to be an informed consumer (not that I don't believe my CA) it is always better to know the cold hard facts… and yes it is getting colder as the seasons have changed, but will have summer tires for the 19" package…

But as was mentioned... 'dealer contribution'… is something we all want to know, as that is where a good deal can be a great deal…but we all need to make a living…
