Yeah, the PT which at only 46k mileage is showing it’s age. After I fix a few things I’ll hand it down to my son for Uber use.
May I ask: what in the 46,000 miles (PT) makes it show its age?

Rust, mainly. Nothing holds up well in salt hell. Just yesterday I noticed a rattling coming from underneath the back. I crawled around in the dirt for awhile and found one of the exhaust hangers had rotted right off.

I’d rather have my son mile the heck out of it before the rust really gets bad. I only drive it about 5k a year and I’d hate seeing it turn to complete junk at low mileage. He does about 25k a year for ride share so he’ll get better use out of it before it dies. I kind of have a thing about getting at least 100k out of a car before I feel I’ve got my money’s worth.

OF, a good friend's wife bought her 2nd Kia Soul as she liked her 1st one so much. It provided her good service for over 170k. She has a 100 mi commute each way. Enjoy!
I really would hate a hundred mile one way commute. currently if I take the shortest route I would be just short of 100 miles for the entire week.

R4Y - Man, I remember a lot of regional airlines flying those Convair's when I was younger. Delta flew quite a few southern routes out of ATL on 440's IIRC while phasing in the DC9's.

Just got home from the dealer with a new 2019 Kia Soul+. Got it for got it for $18287 plus TTL. Beat Edmunds TMV of $19000 and TrueCar’s ‘great deal’ of $18885. Sticker was $21610.

Pretty routine transaction. Only glitch was when we disagreed on the sales tax. I forgot that good old NY taxes the rebates which boosted the price $160. Minimum upsell for warranties. Did you know dealers offer a warranty for losing your keys or flat tires? Had to suppress the urge to chuckle at that.

It’s an ugly little car but since it’s the only one that gave my mobility impaired wife easy entry it’ll do for grocery runs.

Congrats....seems to be ideal for your purposes and you got it at a "can't be beat" price. I like the way they look substantial, and as you know, I like boxy with big windows! :p

I’m hearing reports that the 737 crash was related to a problem with the stabilizer jack screw. This is in the tail and moves the trim stabilizer to give the plane an up or down push. If the jack screw went to full extension the plane would fly into the ground at ever increasing speed and become uncontrollable.

I seem to remember jack screws being involved in several crashes years ago but I’m not sure if it was on any 737s.

What that jack screw may indicate is the severity of the trim setting. However, it could potentially also indicate any unusual wear or breakage. The jack screw you may be thinking of is perhaps the one on the t-tail of the Alaska MD-80 that caused the plane to totally loose control and crash into the Pacific some years back. There was also a problem with the rudder control on several earlier B737's that took away control and caused crashes including the US Air one in Pittsburgh and a United crash in Colorado Springs. So far not seeing that, just trim settings and control, but the investigation is not over and I have no idea whether the MAX changed the jack screw drawings and/or vendor. So I guess you can't eliminate that thought, but if it was defective it would be very hard for a pilot to overcome that and it appears several AA pilots were able to get out of the situation by turning off the autopilot and flying the aircraft back into proper position. That AA situation may be what is causing initial thoughts it is more an MCAS software matter. The pilots on the other 3 cases I brought up really didn't have a prayer. The scary part about the prior years rudder issue was how long it took before they were able to figure it all out. Hopefully the MAX is more cut and dried.

    and they completely went crazy trying to jazz up the rear end;

and a little bit of a floating roof thing going on with the rear roof pillar.

Happened to talk to my wife about some of the strange stuff I read on the interwebs.
On a truck site, someone was saying that a certain truck was better than another because it had 33 inch tires versus 31 on another so it had 2 more inches of ground clearance.
From what I understand half the tire height is on the top and half on the bottom, so 1 inch difference.

I mentioned that people were upset that the new Mustang GT500 will be limited to 180 MPH.
She said 'Where are you going to drive it that fast?'. Probably on some track.
Then she said 'I was behind a Mustang GT today and it sounded so good'.

My company has some components the Boeing uses in the Max (not related to the software). According to my colleagues on that side of the business reported that apparently, the FAA wanted to ground them a couple of days ago. It became a political hot potato as Boeing Execs whined to the right politician people to keep the planes flying in the U.S.

That hot potato became so hot, and the FAA’s evidence so compelling, the grounding advice was finally headed.

They should just order the planes to fly 30 MPH slower because speed kills, and slower is safer. :open_mouth:

For many years I flew coast-to-coast at least 5 times a year (CA to FLL) plus 5-6 flights of 1500 miles or less.  Now, I fly commercially only in emergency situations where my family or my health are at risk for several reasons:

One reason has to do with the fact that whenever I fly on a commercial aircraft, I inevitably get sick - flu, cold, sore throat, etc.  Those years I suffered with Hep C from a blood transfusion played havoc with my immune system which is permanently out of whack even though I am cured of Hep C.

Another reason has to do with the beefed up security and, at times, the long lines and delays getting to the gate.  To me it is pure misery.

Now, if I go up to visit my brother, instead of getting on Jet Blue to fly to JAX, I drive.  As those of you who fly regularly for business know, flying is by no means the fun or enjoyment it used to be.  No more buffet meals in business class or first class.  No more flight attendants catering to your every need.  Economy class is horrendous and almost intolerable.  I don’t envy you guys in the least.

I bring this up because of the added headaches for travelers who are now experiencing delays with American and Southwest Airlines having to adjust aircraft utilization because of the grounding of the MAX8.  Southwest was affected the most because of the number of MAX aircraft they have in their fleet.  They make money because of the effective use of their aircraft - quick turn-arounds for every flight.  They will survive, of course, but air travel is no fun, that’s for sure.

Well, Mike, to my knowledge I have a normal immune system yet I always seem to get sick after flying. Cooped up in a tube with 100 people for hours with very little fresh air that isn't just recirculated stuff full of germs and viruses will do that. Along with all of the other things you mentioned, the crowds, the waiting, the security theater, that cattle-like treatment, I have come to abhor the experience.

It was interesting this week - an acquaintance left on a vacation to San Diego and then Palm Springs, and was posting a bunch of pictures she took. It motivated me to check airfares from Halifax to Palm Springs. I was astounded to find a deal on Expedia that offered a round trip on 3/25 for a week in the Springs at $425 plus fees. There was another offer at close to the same price, a less attractive flight (the one I liked was a 787 from Newark to the west coast) that included a free hotel for almost the same price! It was really tempting, but I passed. I am not motivated to travel much it seems.

I hate flying and I also have a compromised immune system, but I love experiencing new places and flying is the only way to do that. Our trips have provided us with so many wonderful memories, and I still look forward to making more. Now I will only fly overseas on at least Pemium Economy, which makes flying barely tolerable rather than impossible. I also enjoy several trips a year to US cities, usually to visit adult kids or friends.

@oldfarmer50 .....I know you were contemplating buying something, but I thought you were just kicking tires. Big congrats on the Kia. I like it. And, as someone else pointed out, you just automatically became “hip”.

Re Boeing.....lawyers for the company are now requesting specs and details on some of the components. They’re going to try and deflect blame away from the Max to a component provider. This is going to take them a while. And, the longer this investigation goes on, the longer those jets will be grounded.

Would be better to just take the bitter medicine now, take the hit, then move on. Looks like they would rather drag this out as long as possible to blame someone else. Not looking good.

Well, 180 isn't that fast anymore; my M235i has a 155 mph limiter-which I plan to remove-and even the X1 can almost top 140 mph. It's more about bragging rights, although as others have noted, the limit allows Ford a bit of leeway in tire selection, aerodynamics and cooling.
In any case, it's still better than the ludicrous 122 mph limit the boneheads at Volvo are slapping on their cars.

    @ab348,
Stay away from Newark, if poosible. It's usually chaotic there.

I connected through there once back in the late 1990s and it was exactly that. I remember waiting to go through US Customs for entry into the USA and it was wall to wall people with long lines of people carrying their luggage. One guy ahead of me was struggling with a couple of large pieces of baggage and put the entry card they handed out on the plane between his teeth for a minute to reposition his grips. This US Customs guy comes out of nowhere and just started screaming at him to not put the card in his mouth. I mean I can sort of understand not wanting people to do that, but welcome to America!

I always lose when I buy gas.....it always goes down in price right after I buy it.
RUG was $2.59 when I bought it on Wednesday, the next day it dropped back to $2.57.
I am out 22 cents on 11 gallons.

I have no idea what PUG costs....I use PUG but only go be the RUG price listed on the sign....that is probably a good way to rip us off......

When we went to board our flight, we had to walk outside down several flights of stairs and get on a bus which meandered around the airport, to get to our plane. The we got off and walked to the plane.
On the return trip, couple international flights landed at the same time.
They only had 1 working scanner for luggage that was transferring to a domestic flight.
