In my area, we are now saddled with enormous expense because those who had a chance to move forward in a much less expensive environment failed to look ahead, rather, just looked to the short term. Those aren't my opinions, that's how it played out. Not talking about you personally, btw.

I'm legally blind without correction so I wasn't guaranteed to not still need glasses when I looked into ten years ago so I passed.
My contacts are a -8.50 power for a reference of how near sighted I am. I've worn glasses since kindergarten and contacts since 8th grade. It's a drag.

It was great for about 5-6 years after I had it done (in my 40s). Then, suffered a detached retina about 5 years ago. All hell broke loose with my vision. It was dicey repairing the detached retina as the “material” available to the surgeon to repair the detached retina was fairly thin in my eye. LASIK leaves your eye (lens) weaker as the material to reshape your lens is removed to a certain degree.
Not everyone will have a detached retina. But, the likelihood of it happening does go up after LASIK.
Now, I’m faced with a series of more surgeries as the prospect of cataracts is looming.
Plus, my vision in certain areas (like peripheral) is significantly worse since the detached retina. Probably could have avoided all of that if I had continued with glasses instead of LASIK.
In all frankness, I’d say in the next 5 years, I’ll be legally blind in the one eye that had all the surgeries. It all started with the LASIK.
Interestingly about 15 years ago my eyes began to change. Not only did I need reading glasses where I never did before (pretty typical once you get into your 40s) but my nearsightedness began to correct itself too. Whereas before getting around outside without glasses was very dicey, now I can read road signs and the like just fine without them and often in the summer when I am outside the only glasses I wear are non-prescription sunglasses. I think I made the right move not having the surgery.

Adoptions don’t count! Your mother has to be Jewish.
Hey, how about this. After my Mother died and my Brothers and I were going through her things we found our Mothers birth certificate. Since I was the oldest son my Brothers thought I should have it. I still have it. So, what if I changed her last name and religion. She damn sure wouldn't know or care about it now.

Just remember there is one really, and I mean really, bad thing about being Jewish.

I think that is an urban myth. I know several Jewish people who eat bacon. Probably has a lot to do if you are Reform, Conservative or Orthodox. As for dating Kevin Bacon, I'd say no, if she is Orthodox.

So NOW, your area is looking to “your” gen to take the (your) vision or current “want/need & yoke over the completion lines. So the real question is what will history say about that generation ?
It is a big step though, if you can get your mind around what they are actually doing. I am really glad I had it done.
Hope that helps.

I can't imagine looking at myself without glasses (my DL photo shows me without glasses, and it's odd). I've never thought about having the procedure.
I know a few people who have been through the surgery. Some successful, some not so much - issues with fluorescent lighting, in one case.
I'm sure the technology has improved over time, but I don't want to risk my eyes to it.

it's not an urban myth but but Jewish religious law that comes down from the books of Moses. Certain foods were deemed to be unclean and one was pork. So Jewish law forbids the consumption of pork, now whether or not a Jewish person follows it is a different story. But if you wish to remain kosher then no pork.
Yes, I've heard that before, but can't you bend that law just a little? Or are you saying there is no such thing as being a little bit pregnant.

I've also recently noticed that I need more and more light. I had maintenance swap out the tubes in my office last week. People walk in and are blown away saying it's too bright, but with the warmer color temp bulbs I was struggling to read.

"According to the bible, specifically Leviticus, chapter 11, and again in Deuteronomy, the "Kashrut" (Kosher) writings specify what is allowed and not allowed in terms of food consumption. Four-legged animals that have cloven (split) hoofs and chew their cud may be eaten. Creatures residing in water must have fins and scales. Thus, all shellfish are excluded. Swine do not chew their cud thus they are not considered acceptable for food consumption.
Additionally, there are strict laws/procedures for killing the animals - the slaughtering must be painless and supervised by a special rabbi who recites special prayers over the animal and the meat and is charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the animals are treated humanely. The age of the slaughtered meat is another restriction - meat must be eaten within a certain time perameter. Kosher butchers sell unsold meat to non-kosher butchers. That is why kosher meats are rather tough due to the fact that the meat cannot be aged in order to tenderize. Chicken and Turkey and some other fowl are considered kosher so long as the slaughtering is supervised by that rabbi.
Finally, food(s) must be separated according to dairy and meat. In a kosher home, there are separate plates and other dinnerware items for dairy (non-meat foodstuffs) and for meat(s). Thus, in a kosher home or restaurant, you cannot serve or eat/drink dairy products with meat.
I remember when I was a kid, my grandfather would take the family out for dinner at a dairy restaurant on the East Side of south Manhattan. Ratner's restaurant on Delancey Street used to be a famous dairy restaurant in NYC.
As for who keeps kosher and who does not in the Jewish Religion, it varies. Even though my father's parents kept a Kosher home and would not eat non-kosher foods, our immediate family (uncles, aunts, cousins) did not observe the Kosher laws. I've eaten ham, pork, meat with milk or cheese, all my life. Orthodox Jews follow the kosher laws, some Conservative Jews do also as do some Reform Jews. It is a personal choice of the family".
Hope the above helps with information.

I used to run around without my readers, but as my near sightedness gets worse with age, I find I need the readers more often. One reason why I buy cheap ones, and keep spares everywhere -- in the office, in both cars, out in the garage, in the restroom, etc.
