sometimes if you hold out TOO long for a great deal, you dont get a deal at all!

Right you are! I guess I learned this firsthand!

in the time i was selling cars, i found that i gave someone a RIDICULOUS deal, and they'd go home and think about it - in the mean time, rebates changed, programs changed, and the car that we had priced for them that was an old unit for us, sold to someone else. then they want the same price on something we have to get for them - sorry, but its just not gonna work!

you cant forever live in fear of someone getting a better deal than you - you gotta take what you feel is fair, what you are happy with, and what you an afford. anything else is just too much stress!

as far as negotiating on a murano, you can get invoice or below - minus the $500 rebate if you choose to take that over the financing. as far as the bose/gps without all the extras, nissan builds them loaded that way, because most people who want nav, want leather, want bose, want sunroof, etc. you'll find very few who want it stripped with gps - and nissan doesnt build vehicles ala cart like some other companies do.

any deal below invoice should be had - at that point, its only a matter of a couple of hundred bucks at most that someone can beat your deal by - and you can feel comfortable knowing that you got a good deal. yeah, you'll find some people on here and in life that will tell you "oh, i got the murano at $3000 below invoice - you got ripped off at only $500 below" - well those people are just full of it. no dealer in their right mind would want to go $500 below, let alone $3000

i'll be around, posting as much as i can - i won't have the insider's info anymore since i don't have access to the website with the pricing, but any advice i can give, i'd be happy to :-)

    Hi Pmendu,

I am in Edison too. And I am looking for the same thing as you, but my timeframe is around Sept/Oct. Can you share your experience? Moreover, can you explain what is vpp? Thanks in advance!

    Dear Car Man -

We are looking at purchasing a new 2005 Murano with a sticker price around $39,000. (SL AWD, almost fully loaded with the extras)....

We have the friends and family discount, and a trade in of a 1999 honda civic with 115K miles and trying to put down as little as possible. Will the friends and family discount help in a lease situation? What would our payments be and should we lease or buy?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, just bought an 04 SL FWD, 17k miles for about $23k from a Toyota dealer. It's in great shape, has leather, sunroof, heated seats, stereo upgrade, seat memory. Not sure what other options or what packages it may have. Will my VIN reveal this? If so, how do I read it? Also, it seems $23k was a pretty good price for this vehicle given the asking prices I've seen (at least in Houston area). Did I really get a good deal or are asking prices just inflated?

    Thanks for any help.
  • thenebeanthenebean Member Posts: 1,124
thats a great deal! we had used 03 muranos with similar equipment that were going for $25k, so you did well!

as far as the packages go, you probably have the SL Touring package (or what is very similar to it) Nissan doesn't do a la cart packaging like toyota does. the packages go like this...

premium package (adj. pedals, roof rack, bose, power seat)
sunroof package (incl. prem. pkg and sunroof)
touring package (incl. prem and snrf pkgs plus leather, heated seats, memory seating)
tech package (incl. prem, snrf, and tour pkgs plus navigation)

thats just a quick run through of what the 04's offered. looks like you have one with touring!

    "thats a great deal!..."

Thanks for the info. I actually got ahold of the original owner today and she said they paid her $22,500 in trade for it (she also said she and her hubby did their research on the car they were buying a got what they thought was close to rock-bottom price on their new vehicle - an 05 Tacoma). I really would have expected the dealer to have made more than $500 profit on this car. But it was an "ad car" so maybe that's why I got it so cheap.

And you were right about the option package. I did get one with touring.

Just got back from the dealer after buying a new '05. I originally went through Costco Autos. The price their dealer quoted me was invoice flat. I told them that the dealer near my house was already offering that. So they came back with invoice less $500. Taking this price to another dealer close by, we got them to match the price, but they had it on the lot. So we're picking it up tomorrow morning. The TMV listed on edmunds is 33,100 and we were able to get it for 31,700.

Has anybody negotiated a better lease than the one offered on Nissan site. The current promo for Aug05 is
    Price 31760
    Months:42
    Acquisition: 550
    Residual:19717.50
    Initial payment 1999
    Monthly payment:359
I am not sure what the money factor is - looking through the posts some of them have got money factors as low as .00077. For me to arrive at 359 i need to use money factor of .00115.

This is ridiculous. I'm currently living in Sweden where the '05 3.5 SE starts at around $58.000. :-P

A few tips for people who is going to buy this kind of vehicle: 1. Research your car, option packages, accessories by using edmunds.com, cars.com, kbb.com or nadaguides.com. Once you decide the car you want to buy. Have the dealer quote you a price with the invoice price and options packages that you want. Print the actual price from those website that you have and use this as your Special Tools when you visit the dealership. Most of the time dealer will match or beat the price that you have. Concentrate the invoice price not after rebate price. This gives you a better financing rate. As for me "REBATE" is a LIVE Bait that dealer use to fool their customer. Make sure apply your car loan on your bank institutions or local credit union since they usually have a better rate. Bring the approval letter from the bank that approves you so dealer can match the interest rate. During financing... here is the real negotiations, dealer will add few bells and whistle about your car which include extended warranty, insurance and so on.. its just waste of money, specially if you are going to buy a reliable car. The MSRP price for the murano S with convinience package that I have is 29150.00 I made a deal of 26000 plus TTL with 4.0% interest for 60 months. All in all, total cost me of 28750.00 Now tell me if this is better deal? Please respond who will read my buying experience.
    I made a deal of 26000 plus T.T.L.

HELP!!!! I believe i saw a post from an Nissan employee or probably former employee now.....is the VPP discount(friends and family discount, but I don't think Nissan calls thier employee discount this:) specific to vehicle or just a flat amount off of any Nissan vehicle? I got an uneasy feeling from a salesman yesterday when i told him I had the number/info(PIN for employee/friend discount, sorry not sure what it's called) from a friend of mine that works at Nissan.

    Thanks for your help!!

VPP is not an employee discount.. It is a supplier discount.. Probably 3-4% higher than what an employee would pay....

ok - so i was confused, when i mentioned the friends/family discount to the salesman yesterday, he looked at me like he had no idea what i was talking about......so I am just trying to understand the Nissan employee/friends/family discount. Does it work similar? A flat percentage off the MSRP?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,549
Generally. the supplier discount program is right around invoice price.. the dealer has the VPP price on his invoice, and when you get the PIN number, etc., they will show it to you....

I've gotten this quote from Nissan dealership. Pls let me know what you think about it. Murano 2005 SL AWD with Touring Package. 42 months, 0 down, 0 up-front, sign and drive @ $370+tax. One problem i am thinking about is the warranty periord. It's only for 36 months from Nissan. Does this mean i am screwed if it brakes after 36 months? This kills the deal. 36 months lease will be an extra $40 a month. Let me know. Thanks!

Just got my car on Labor Day.
SL 2WD with touring, cargo protector, floor mat, splash guard, wood trim, chrome wheel, dynamic control package, roof rack crossbar, sunroof wind reflector

    $32000 (after the $500 rebate)

    Invoice is $32735
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,549
Yes... it is no different than if you owned the car... Any repairs out of warranty will be your responsibility...

That said, I think Nissan has a 5 year powertrain warranty... The chances of something major happening in the last six months, that isn't covered, seem pretty slim..

    Hi all,
I'm resident of Boston, Massachusettes and currently in Texas. I'll be in Texas till this December and planning to buy a car in Texas.

Could anyone tell me what I should do to avoid paying sales tax in both states?

The car's a pre-owned Nissan Murano and its registration lasts till the end of next month. The dealer says he'll deliver the car to me with
Texas registration and I'll have end-of-OCT to get my Mass. registration done.

The dealer and I have agreed to a certain price based on the Texas state sales tax and the dealer says he'd increase or decrease this price based on the difference between Mass and Texas state sales taxes.

I'l drive back to Boston in Dec.
I'm planning on avoiding Texs registration altogether and do Mass.registration now from long-distance paper work. Is this feasible?

How best could I avoid multiple sales, registration, taxes etc.?
Could some one give me some pointers on how to go about saving some money?

    Thanks,
    Lax

I just purchased a 2005 SL with Satellite radio, leather/premium package, cargo protector, floormats, sunroof deflector with a MSRP of 33290 plus the satellite radio for $29,900. I opted for the low APR financing.

    Hope this helps!
  • platinumbird1platinumbird1 Member Posts: 25
I opted for their low APR financing which is 4% over 60 months. Since the F&I cannot sell me any other option which include extended warranty, etc. He added the $500.00 rebate to the sale price. I am not sure if that is the right way because I keep arguing about that rebate adding to the price. Any input of this price?
  • jurnijurni Member Posts: 7
That is interesting. If it is a rebate why is it added? I think it was a choice. If you take the financing you do not get the rebate. I found my financing online and got a great rate 4.9% up to 72 months, which helped me also because I can also get the rebate plus I got a great deal (05' SL FULLY LOADED) $31,900. The last day of the "clearance" deal with a midnight sales event ( I went at 10pm) had financing in hand, and an sales person who needed a sell to reach a bonus I guess for that month helped a lot. I like that process because I only spent 1 1/2 in the dealership. None of that going back and forth mess. F&I guy was even on time with his paperwork not slowing around like usual.

FYI: If you have to take a choice of financing or rebate try to get financing from credit union or bank (Capitol One Auto Finance is also great)and you can get the rebate with a great APR that you did on your own will give you a better deal over the long haul.

    Thanks for your help everyone.

I am happy with my choice :D and ride high everyday :shades:
  • platinumbird1platinumbird1 Member Posts: 25
I thing the F&I guy fool me because I keep refusing to buy extra insurance and warranty. The only thing that I added is the GAP insurance which cost me around $350.00 for 60 months. A friend of mine convince me to buy this insurance which will pay-off the remaining balance if my car is total loss. In the long run, I think I still save money for the interest over 60 months even the rebate was added to the price. I also inquire loan from my credit union and the Capitol one auto finance but both of them are giving higher interest which is over 5%
    Thanks again for the input.

    Hi,

We got a quote for a 05' SL for 500 under invoice (incl. freight/process fee but not incl. 500 rebate). From reading the forums this seems like an average deal. Couple questions.. Has anyone been getting better offers? Also, would it make sense to wait for the 06's. As I remember last year while looking at g35s, the 04s were going for about 2K or more under invoice after the 05s where out. I imagine with inventory levels reasonably high, there could be a similar discount for the muranos. The 06s do have some worthy improvements, the color lcd being the most notable IMO. Any ideas? We are in the Wash DC area. TIA
  • rlogicrlogic Member Posts: 2
I'm no expert, but I'd say that is too high. You didn't really a lot of details on the car, but I would think a 2wd w/ those options could easily be had for around 29K new, or maybe lower. I would want at least 4K off for a 1 year old car, or it wouldn't be worth it, for me at least.

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy/lease a Murano at the end of Nov. or in Dec. What are you thoughts on when I would get the best deal. Right now a dealer here in Minneapolis has a $1000 rebate. But I'm thinking in Dec. it might get better??

I see a lot of people are getting the '05's for anywhere from $500-$1000 over invoice. Any help with how to negotiate the best deal would also be appreciated.

Thanks for helping out the new guy!

    Hey apple3

Sounds like an AWESOME deal. Do you mind sharing the dealer? I'm looking for exactly the same and I can perhaps use your quote to get them down....here in Los Angeles they are looking to get 36,000 out the door for the same thing you got for 31, 800. I'll fly to AZ at that price...lol.....shoot me an email? Thanks!

I was offered the '05 Murano SL 2wd with the touring package for $30,836 (including the $1k rebate from Nissan) at Universal Nissan. Does this sound about right? Or can I do better.

Also, does anyone know when the 2006 models will be available?

    Hello All!!

We got a 05 AWD Murano just 1 month ago, with almost everything:
Premium + Sunroof + Leather + Touring Package
    Nav Package
    Dynamic Control Package
    Chrome Wheels
and Carpets, Guards, Protector, Deflector and Rail

It drives great and we are very happy. Paid $36,500 for it and got the 4% rate, almost $100 over invoice. Dealer was tough, but hey they are also fighting for their share.
  • apple3apple3 Member Posts: 5
    Sure! Earnhart Nissan, Mesa, Arizona
Good luck to you...I had a heck of a time finding the touring and tech package on a 05 in the Southwest. Big dealer so they are willing to deal. Also, it was 31,800 plus T,T and L.
  • cargirl3cargirl3 Member Posts: 1
I was quoted $26300 for a 2005 S AWD with the convenience package. When I got to the dealership they worked out the following numbers for a lease:

Negotiated cap price $30k (I am rounding)
Adjusted Cap $27k (they took off $3k for my trade)
    Risidual $15989
    Money factor .00050
Lease payment $319 for 39 months

    What happened????
  • jmaxejmaxe Member Posts: 198
The cap price would include all costs including delivery, tax, title, fees, etc. Did you account for that?
  • pkatamipkatami Member Posts: 4
    Howdy Aquilles

I think you can do better. I've dealt with Universal Nissan in LA too. Bought a car there this last Jan for a friend. Every year in Dec for as long as I can remember they do a year end "bottom line" sale that offers amazing aprs and with the new Muranos on the lot I feel they'd be willing to negotiate a bit more. Wait till either the very begining of Dec or even better the last few days of the year.

I want buy Murano SL AWD with touring and tech package. I got the deal for 33,000 +tax+motor vehicle.
How much should I be paying?
  • autobuyautobuy Member Posts: 4
I just bought an 05 SL AWD MSRP $30,250
    Premium Pkg $1,500
    Floor Mats $90
    Splash Guards $110
    Cargo Protector $80
    Roof Rail Crossbars $190
    Destination Charge $605
    Total MSRP $32,825

I paid $29,500 out the door and they had to get it from a dealer over 400 miles away. I was offered $500.00 under invoice but I did not want to drive an hour to that particular dealer in Charlotte NC. I needed one with the premium package but my 6'5" frame did not fit well with the sunroof so it was a hard car to find. I installed an aftermarket receiver hitch for $105 and Nissan hitch wiring kit for $99. Picked it up 11/15/05 and have 1900 miles on it. Love it so far!

I've been looking for a 2005 Nissan Murano with touring and tech. In my searching I've found one a few weeks ago for 32.500 before taxes. I was thinking maybe I'd lease but haven't researched leases. I don't care so much about the navi- but I like the color screen and rear assist (i'm in and out of parking lots a lot everyday).

Now- I priced a new 2006 (yet to arrive at the dealers) SL touring (comes standard with rear assist camera and color screen) at 31,777 Platinum/Black.

So I'm at a loss. Wait for the 06 and buy----or lease? Or wait for the 06 to see if the dealers will blow out the 05?

A dealer called me today to say "let's get you out of the market- what can I do to make this deal". I asked for the 2005 SL 2WD Black/Charcoal touring, tech sticker at 36,700, offered at 32,500 for 30,000. We'll see.

I also test drove the FX35 and liked it, but not as much as the Murano....

    Thoughts??Help?

    thanks!!
