    I got an edmunds price promise for a cx-5 touring for 25,630. Based on that price and the base Mf of .00001 and 33/15 with 58% residual and 500 lease cash, with your more accurate spread sheet, what would you estimate the monthly payment would be?

    What is the MSRP?

    Thanks Michaell. I know I'm likely being a P.I.T.A, but this stuff really helps. I came into this looking at Honda CRV, CX-5, Rav4, Escape and Subaru Forrester (which I really like, but wife not so much...plus doesn't seem deals that good). Having this lease info really lets me know the best bang for our buck in a pretty crowded field. I would offer you a beer, but being in Colorado, you can get plenty of that ;)

    Good to do the research first - there are lots of choices out there, but not all of them lease well (CR-V and Forester, for sure).

    I'll be going through the same process in about a year when my Hyundai lease is up ... not looking at CUV's, more like compact and mid-size sedans.

    We currently have a lease on 2013 Santa Fe. It's a decent vehicle, but wanted something new. Plus the plastic surround on the passenger seat has broken off twice. It's a "design flaw" with it and honestly we were going to buy the Santa Fe but knowing that is an issue that will never get fixed, kind of bothered me. We still have 2 months left on the lease but the buyout value ($16131) is less that the NADA trade in value. That was one issue with the Honda dealer, he wanted to use the KBB and Edmunds value on my car which was a little less.

    If I can get the CX-5 Touring for $311+tax, that would be the way to go. Great reviews, good price/features mix. Still no siriusXM, but hey, can't have everything.

    Stupid question. When I go to the dealership and then test drive, they will then want to go down and discuss a deal. I already have the Edmunds price. Do I then just say "I want this car as a lease. Here are my lease terms: MF .00001, Residual at 58% and 33/15 terms"? Or do I let them make the deal first and then ask what money factor, etc. they are using and then hit them with "I know what your baseline is"? Never been a big negotiator, but need to.

    Negotiate the selling price - you can tell them it's a lease, or not, but no reason not to be upfront about that, in my mind.

    Once you get a price, you can plug it into your spreadsheet and determine the payment - if it's different from the dealers calculations, they've either marked up the MF or the cap cost is different from the one you're using.

    Is there a spreadsheet I can download or use on ipad? I'm normally not a "spreadsheet" guy. Also, just curious, how did you know the MF and other numbers from the different car manufacturers?

    Ok.  So if they say "that info is wrong", have nothing to counter other than walking out

    You politely but firmly tell them that you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF. They know what the base rate is; no need to negotiate it.

    The residual is set by the bank and the dealer cannot modify it.

    I got a response from dealer (out of town but still in tn) who is giving me the terms, but payment came out to $367, so came back and said my calculations based on market price came out to $311, so waiting to hear back now.
  • volntitansvolntitans Member Posts: 28
     So finally heard back from the dealer.   Monthly lease on the 33/15 will be $ 308+ tax. Things like a pretty good deal?

    Looking for the MF and Residual on a 2016 Grand Touring FWD in Florida. 15K per year. Also where is the sweet spot 33, 36 or 39 months? Thanks in advance.

    I may have posted this to the wrong forum.

    Went to a local dealer and test drove the 2016 CX5 touring and Grand Touring (Both AWD). Worked out lease numbers and we came with $364.99 per month/39 months lease deal for a Grand Touring with tech package and $640 up front in fees.

    $364.99 mo/39 months
    $640 up front in fees including first payment
    What is the money factor for the 2016 cx5 GT?

    thank you

    I want to thank everyone who responded to my rambling and stupid questions. A special shout out to Michaell. I truly have never felt better about buying a car. With the info that I got from this forum, I confidently went into the dealer and walked out with a great car at a fair price. I'm leasing a car at .024%. It's almost like free money. Thanks again and everyone have a great Thanksgiving. My your turkey be plentiful!

    I just leased a 2016 GT AWD in Reflex Blue (with the GT Tech Package, Mazda Mobile Start, All Weather Floor Mats, Rear Bumper Guards and Wheel Locks (the latter two were on the car they could find and I was fine leaving them on) for a 33month/10K lease and am liking the deal. The dealer moved numbers all over the place, but here's a good summary:

    MSRP w/options and destination charge: $32,660.00
    Dealer cost: $31,495.00
    Holdback: $294.70 (1% of MSRP wo/options or dest. charge for Mazda)
    Cost less Holdback: $31,200.30
    Effective negotiated car price: $31,315.00 (before rebates!)

    Cap cost reductions:
    * $1,000 rebate
    * $155.20 second payment waiver
    * $5,809.00 trade-in (2007 Honda Odyssey with 50K miles and some deep scraping on one door--a bit above
    the Edmunds reported value for trade-in for a car with this mileage in "average" shape, which this was;
    dealer was stuck at $5,000 for a long time, and got us to deal by raising the trade up to this amount)
    * $100.62 cash paid (I won't go into why this happened, but I decided to let it go)

    Additions to leased amount:
    * $424.00 tire and wheel coverage (my daughter will learn to drive on this car...)
    * $35.63 taxes

    Monthly payment: $155.20
    * $131.72 depreciation fee (consistent with 61% residual)
    * $0.45 rent charge (consistent with .00001 MF)
    * $13.90 wheel and tire coverage and capitalized taxes
    * $9.13 MA sales/use tax

    Up front payments: $1,534.00
    * Acq. Fee: $595.00
    * Doc. Fee: $495.00 (felt high, but was told same across all deals at the dealership)
    * $188.18 taxes, title, registration
    * $155.20 first month's payment
    * $100.62 cap cost reduction

    Thanks to all for the information that helped me negotiate this!

    The salesman also indicated that the dealership was "slow." Wow, just wow! Certainly made it easy for me to pick a deal I liked and stick to my guns until I got it exactly.

    Hello All,
    Just came back from the dealer with the following numbers (I am in Massachusetts):
    2016 Mazda CX5 AWD Sport + backup camera ($400). I am totally new to the lease, so pardon my ignorance. I feel there is something wrong here.

    The bottom line we agreed on is 39 months, $2000 down (includes 1st payment and all fees - see below) and $268.30+$16.77 MA tax, total $285.07.

    Now the numbers from the lease agreement:

    #4 Amount Due at Lease signing or delivery - $3535.40 / itemized in #8 (really confused because it supposed to be $2000)

    #5 Monthly payments $285.07, 38 payments, the total payments is $11117.73

    #6 Disposition fee $300.00 (we didn't discuss that)

    #7 Total of payments $14668.06

    #8 Amount sue at signing:
    Cap cost reduction: $2708.00
    1st monthly payment $285.07

    Other (Sticker) $35.00
    Admin fee $299
    Total: $3535.40

    #9 How the amount due at lease signing will be paid:
    Rebates and noncash credits: $1535.00
    Amount to be paid in cash: $2000
    Total:$3535.40

    #10. Your monthly payment is determent as shown below:

    a Gross cap cost: The agreed value of the vehicle $26815 (NEVER AGREED ON THIS) and any items you pay for over the Lease term, such as taxes, fees, etc) : $27410 (see #14 for itemization)

    b Cap cost reduction: $2708

    c Adjusted cap cost: $24702

    d Residual value $14436.80

    e Depreciation and any amortized amounts: $10265.20

    f Rent charge: $198.50

    g Total of base monthly payments: $10463.70

    Total monthly payment $285.07

    #12. Wear and tear 12000 miles/year / 0.15 extra mile

    #13. Purchase option at the lease end: $14436.80 + $50 fee

    #14 Itemized of gross cap cost:

    Hi there, I'm looking for MF and RV #s for 2016 CX-5 GT (both FWD and AWD), 39mo/10k miles in northern VA.

    Can you also tell me the lowest MF option for this car (what month term)?

    Thanks in advance!

    That's exactly what you got. The rest of it is just a disclosure of how the lease was calculated.

    There is no catch. The disposition fee is standard on a Mazda lease and is collected from you at lease end.

    .00013 MF and 56%/57% residual for FWD/AWD. $500 lease cash.

    The lowest MF is at 33 months
    33/10 numbers:
    .00001 MF and 60%/61% residual for FWD/AWD. $500 lease cash

    That won't necessarily result in a lower lease payment than 39 months, though.

    You said you agreed on on the bottom line numbers. Does that mean you signed anything and actually leased the vehicle? If so, there's no point finding the " catch" if indeed there is one. If you didn't sign anything, then I'll leave it to others to comment.

    Thank you for follow up. I should say the bottom line the dealership gave me, not "agreed on". My concern is the value of the vehicle = $26815. Is this something different than selling price? The dealer told me the selling price is $24058.

    You said you agreed on on the bottom line numbers. Does that mean you signed anything and actually leased the vehicle?

    If so, there's no point finding the " catch" if indeed there is one.

    If you didn't sign anything, then I'll leave it to others to comment.

    no, didn't sign the lease yet.

    Going to sign up today - $2000 down covering all fees and first month (except disposition fee $300.00 at the end of the lease). It's going to be $295/m including MA taxes for red CX-5 Touring with (not a big deal, but...) all weather mats, rear bumper guard and wheel locks.

    Looking for the base MF and residual % on Mazda CX-5 GT. It would be great if I could compare 30/33/36 term length with 10/12/15. Might be too much info to give me, but I'd appreciate it. Also are there any december incentives I should be aware of? Thanks.

    Assuming AWD?

    .00001 MF and 58% residual for 33/15

    .00020 MF and 60% residual for 30/15

    .00013 MF and 54% residual for 36/15

    Add 2% for 12K/yr or 3% for 10K/yr.

    Subtract 1% for FWD

    Thank you so much. Any December incentives? It looks like you were quoting people 500 lease cash last month. Is that incentive over now?

    First, I would like to thank Edmunds and all the fine folks that moderate this forum and supply us the invaluable information found here.

    Equipped with the info gleaned primarily from this site I went shopping for a new CX-5. I believe I ended up with a smoking deal.

    Leased a 2016 GT AWD dressed in Soul Red. No tech package, no dealer added accessories, just the basic GT.

    The dealer did not have this vehicle in stock but agreed to find one if we struck a deal. The dealer across town did have one in stock and I was able to use this to my advantage. However the local dealers usually won't trade vehicles. The nearest vehicle equipped the way I wanted was 450 miles away (900 miles round trip). The downside to this is the vehicle had 464 miles when I took delivery.

    I signed a lease for 39 months, 10k per year. Dealer charged $199 doc fee up front; this was the only cash out of my pocket.

    Bottom line: $304.11 per month plus monthly sales tax. Mazda made first payment.

    Then, to top it off we check out the vehicle and find the original dealer had installed wheel locks, cargo tray and cargo cover and failed to remove them or tell my dealer they were there; so I received approximately $200-250 worth of free accessories. And the first oil change and tire rotation is on the dealer's dime.

    Thanks again to all!

    Looks really good. I wouldn't worry about the miles.
