What were the MSRP and selling prices? If the entire $5000 was used as cap cost reduction your true payment is closer to $549/mo.

Original MSRP was $45,993. Selling price was $41,243. Cap cost reduction was $3579 making the Adjusted Capitalized Cost = $38,285

OK, the $3500 equates to $132/mo, so the true payment is closer to $500/mo. Not too bad for a car that stickers for $46K

So I'm kind of having buyers remorse over the fact they only gave me $5,000 for the trade. They never told me that. I still hold the title to the trade and the paperwork for the trade was never signed due to the owner (my mother) not being there. If I told them that the owner does not wish to trade anymore would I be able to back out of the lease?

I'm not a lawyer. But, have you taken possession of the new car? if not, your chances of unwinding the deal are greater.
Hi everyone this is my first time thinking about leasing. I would like to lease a 2015 is 250 premium package in atl, ga. They gave me an offer for if I would trade in my 2005 Honda Accord coupe with 139,000 miles. I don't really want to trade in my vehicle that I own. Does anyone believe I can get a better deal with payments around 400...

The taxes in GA just kill you ... if I back out the $5000 trade equity from the calculations, and use the .00105 base MF and 76% residual for 24 months, 10K miles per year, I get a payment of $453.43/mo. If you switch to 36/10, the payment drops to $443.69/mo. To get to $400/mo you would need to negotiate the selling price down another $1200-1500.
We don't recommend you use trade equity to buy down the payment ... if the car is stolen or totaled, you are out that money.
Thank you so much for your help, that totally makes sense, would you recommend that I put money down to get the payment lower? Or would that not help much..

Same answer - you aren't saving any money, just changing the distribution of how and when the finance company collects it. Same total cash outlay. And, same risk if the car is stolen or totaled.
Hello, trying to figure out a few things on a quoted "lease" for my daughter for a Lexus IS 250 F Sport, Florida area, I've never leased a car myself. These are "known" facts.... MSRP = $43,499.00 / Selling Price = $39,520.00 / Pre Delivery Svc Fees, State/Local Taxes, License and Fees = 1,693.45, all totals $41,213.45. Down Payment of $2,500.00, Rebate of $375.00, Un Paid Balance of $38,338.45 / Net Residual of $31,745.27 (73%). Payments of $375.66 (including tax) / Term 27 mo/12K per year. Things I DON'T know ... MF number! Are MSD's allowed (how many) and would that be better to do than $2,500 down? (MSD's are fully refundable at lease end and lowers interest rate .24% per each payment multiple??) Is this quote price a OK deal? Is there a way to determine MF from above info? I know a dealer can spin numbers, she originally wanted a $375.00 payment for 36/12K but 27/12K is where $375.00 sits at they say. Sorry for all the questions, APPRECIATE any helpful info, THANKS ..

MF is .00105 for the IS this month. With the residual (73%), MSRP ($43,499) and net cap cost ($38,338), I get a pre-tax payment of $317.44/mo for 27 months. Not sure of the tax rate in Florida, but 7% (guess on my part) takes the payment to $339.66/mo. Dealer seems to be marking up the MF on you for extra profit.
For a 36/12 lease, the MF stays the same but the residual drops to 65%. Everything else staying the same, the pre-tax payment is $349.49; 7% tax takes it to $373.95/mo.
We don't recommend making a down payment on a lease - if the car is stolen or totaled, you are out that money. Yes, MSD's would work to reduce the MF.
Dealer quoted me $229/mo incl. Taxes. .00075 MF/Selling price ~38k about $4k Down (trade). Good deal?
If the entire $4K of trade equity is going to cap cost reduction, then your effective payment is closer to $340/mo for a 36 month lease - more if your lease has a shorter term ($4000 / 24 = $167/mo, for example).

What is considered Tier 1 versus Tier 1+ ?
1+ is 720 or higher; 1 is 690-719
Thank you for the clarification.. and the figures you provided are with $0 money out of pocket? (besides registration and all that).

I'm looking at a 2015 IS250 with a MSRP of $43,396.00.
RV is .65 for 36 months at 12k miles (so $27,825.20). My credit is well above a 720 so I'm tier 1+.
What would the payment be on a net cap cost of $41,335.00?
Thanks in advance, this is my first lease so I'm not sure how to calculate the figures.
**Edit**
So, I did some calculations. It appears the dealer hit me with a high money factor with the payment they quoted me. By my calculations it looks like they showed a .00223 money factor when I should have been quoted at a .00105 money factor. The payment they showed was 529.79.

After the suggestion from Micheall to post this question here, I was looking for any type of negotiation advice for my lease coming up...
My lease is ending in April and this will be my 3rd vehicle being leased from my local Lexus dealership. My sales woman text me saying they had a 2015 IS250 F Sport Crafted Line in and "ran my numbers" to come up with a deal. Her deal is below:
$499/ month for 36 months at 7500 miles/year with Tier 1+ credit Also, $3000 out of pocket MSRP $47,070
Now, after getting the current numbers from Michaell (MF .00105 and Residual 67%) and me assuming I could get a net cap price of $45,000... Michaell said I would be looking at a $454.34 a month with nothing down.
When I go in to my Lexus dealer, what is one of the first things that I should do? Ask for their rate sheet or the contract that has the numbers she used for this deal? I mean, they are basically over charging me by quite a bit and asking for 3k down! My two other times getting my lease, they always laughed at me when I would tell them I wanted nothing down. I feel like this time around I have done a lot more research about leasing and want to go in to this negotiation like I know what I am doing!

First, let's clarify "down payment" versus "out of pocket" monies. Down payment (aka cap cost reduction) is used to buy down the payment. We don't recommend this - if the car is stolen or totaled you are out that money. "Out of pocket" is money due at lease inception to cover up front costs such as acquisition fee, tags/license, first payment, etc.
So, find out from your sales person how the $3000 breaks down - I suspect there is some cap cost reduction included, but not all of it. Get them to be specific.
The dealer should provide a worksheet that explains all the numbers in the quote - MSRP, residual, selling price, net cap cost. Obtain a copy if you can.
Last, my calculations are before tax. Sales tax obligations vary on leases from state to state. Some tax just the monthly payment, other states calculate the sales tax for the entire lease up front - these can be paid at lease inception as part of the out of pocket costs or added into the cap cost and paid monthly. A handful of states - TX, MD and GA - tax the entire selling price of the car up front.

I am not sure what that means, sorry my first lease. This is all the information I have.
The net cap cost is the selling price adjusted with any additional charges such as acquisition fee, tags/license, dealer fee, etc. If you ask, the dealer should be happy to provide a lease worksheet for you.
I am not sure I can find out the net cap cost. I am doing the deal through a leasing agent. Just wanted to roughly know if I got a good deal on the car.

Once you get that information, we can model a payment.
How are you paying for the leasing agent? Separate from the car transaction?
I am not paying the lease agent anything. I think they get paid from dealership or their fee is rolled into the acquisition fee. All I got is a quote of $336.57 per month tax included plus to put out inception fees of $1,591.60. For the IS AWD NAVI package. So I just wanted to see if that is considered a good deal for that car giving the MSRP is $44,344.00.

On the surface, yes, $337/mo for a car that stickers at $44K looks to be a good deal. But, the devil is in the details.
Thanks for the reply's! What signs should I look for, for it to turn into a bad deal? Given that I cannot find out the net cap cost? Sorry, its just my first time leasing. Thanks in advance!

Are you trading a car in? That might also account for the lease payment being so low.
You should be able to ask the dealer for the net cap cost amount, and have them explain exactly how they calculated that number.

Just under $380 a month with Lexus also picking up first months payment. Feels like I did pretty well.

What would the MF and RV be for least mileage possible (7500 or 10k?) and 36 months.
Dealer just told me $499/month 3k down.. don't know any other info.
Thanks
.00105 MF.
We'd need to know the MSRP and the net cap cost in order to model a payment.

MSRP - 47,070
Net Cap - Going to try and get for at least 45,000. Would you consider this a fair price or should I be trying to negotiate lower than that?
Could you model a payment off MSRP - 47,070 and Net - 45,000
Thanks!
With your MSRP and selling price, I get a pre-tax payment of $454.34 for 1+, $461.99 for tier 1.

My lease is ending in April and this will be my 3rd vehicle being leased from my local Lexus dealership. My sales woman text me saying they had a 2015 IS250 F Sport Crafted Line in and "ran my numbers" to come up with a deal. Her deal is below:
$499/ month for 36 months at 7500 miles/year with Tier 1+ credit
Also, $3000 out of pocket
MSRP $47,070

You should be able to ask the dealer for the net cap cost amount, and have them explain exactly how they calculated that number.
