After i do my math according to what your saying im over paying by about $23-$24 per month. In the end $864 over paid. So i should negotiate lower monthly payment? and ask them to adjust MF.

The reason i ask, is dealers need to make a profit obiously. Do they make a profit at $385.88 pre tax and the mark up is additional profit?

Yes, a portion of the markup of the MF goes to the dealer.

Tell them you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF - they make their profit on the sale of the car, not necessarily on the financing.

You may also want to work with a second Lexus dealer; the competition will help you get the best deal.

Thank you for all the information. Is the MF the same for everyone accross the board or does credit score affect that? I ask because initially my mom was going to sign for me 756 credit, after i got numbers i asked if i could sign myself credit was 646 and they said yes with her as cosign and numbers would remain the same. Also where do I find the current MF and tax rates. Is that something i can show dealer. Sorry for so many questions, I just wana have all my ducks in a row before i go re negotiate

The numbers are confidential. You can't "show" them to the dealer. Trust me, they know the numbers.

And the MF is same for everyone regardless of credit score.

The credit score will affect the MF being used. The .00090 MF is for Tier 1+, or scores 720 or higher.

Residual is calculated from the MSRP.

Wow no wonder people get ripped off all the time. I feel like i understand how to arrive at the monthly payment. I got steps through leaseguide but im not arriving at your numbers of $385.88 pre tax. Instead i get $372.03
First i calculate residual based off msrp
Then i subtract negotiated selling price from residual = (depreciation amount) i add depreciation to negotiated selling price and multiply by MF 0.0009 i get MF rate or interest charge per se. Then i take depreciation divide by 36 (term) and add the the MF rate = pre tax monthly payment. The tax is then figured by multiplying the monthly rate by 7% (florida miami dade) and adding that result to monthly rate gives final figure. Am i missing something

Assuming the selling price and the CAP cost are the same, then your calculations are correct. Acquisition fees, doc fees, title/registration, etc, etc.. Those costs are either paid upfront or added into the CAP cost.

Whats the MF for each credit tier. I already got 0.0009 for tier 1, what about the rest?

How are the tiers and credit scores coupled.
Ex: 720 or higher = tier 1+ and so fourth.

Also when I show up to the dealer and ask them what the money factor is on my lease contract are they required to tell me

if they do and I tell them that it's too high are they required to lower it or can they simply say that's our money factor and that's that. I know if thats the case then i walk.

After all i have no proof of what the actual MF's are except from what you are providing. Or is there a site that show this (MF) information.

    1+ 720 or higher
    1 - 690-719
    2 - 670-689

Ask them to provide the MF they are using to calculate the lease payment - they are allowed to mark it up for extra profit but if you have a good lease calculator handy you can show them the error of their ways. You should always work to get the base MF for whatever credit tier you qualify for.

The MF isn't public information, but if the dealer is smart they will know you know what the base MF is.

I can get tier1 through my Mother she can sign for me, in fact that was our first approach to the dealer, out of curiosity i asked to check with me on the lease and they said i was approved but my mom would need to co-sign. When i asked how that affected the payments  they said they stay the same, i thought with me they would go up. So that made me a bit suspicious. My credit is in the "rebuilding phase" from history of bad credit card debt. Finally rising!

I have a 646, what would the MF be for that?

Is it worth the extra cash to lease under my name to build more credit.

When two scores are used example me primary (646) and cosigner (756) how does that affect the selection of MF, do they use my score do they use cosigner score or do the average the scores (701) half way between both and use that to select MF

I'm not sure that we have any insight on how co-signer credit scoring is determined.

Im asking do you pay tax on interest as well?

Tax obligations for a lease vary based on what state you live in.

In general, the total payment (depreciation + interest) is subject to sales tax.

Hey guys, first time posting here. I actually live in Northern VA and have been searching to get the best deal. Even email dealers in North Carolina and Maryland to see what they can offer.

Anyhow, I came across a dealer in Maryland who has the Base 2014 IS 250 for $38652 but willing to let it go for $33070 + taxes, tags and doc fee.

Keep in mind this is a 2014 but the price is very attractive since there isn't a difference between the 2014 and 2015 model and all the base 2015 here starts at $41225 which is considerably higher for a 2015.
I will be leasing whichever Lexus I decide to get for 24 months, just as a heads up.

Let me know if I should consider this or keep trying to find a 2015 IS250.

    Thanks!

Alright guys, here's an update. So talked to the dealer with 2014 Lexus IS and they won't do a lower price and they're sticking with $521 a month without telling me why it's so high.... Ridiculous. This is all over the phone by the way.

Anyways so I went to my local dealer here with the thought of hashing out a deal for a 2015 Base Lexus IS 250. The sales person came to $450 a month with 0 down and a 24 month lease. The MSRP was $41227 and I believe the sale price was $39400 with tax and everything included (OTD). But after I asked for it to be $38400 OTD he offered a IS 250 F Sport.

Alright so here it is. IS 250 F Sport with Nav MSRP $45222, I believe he was doing $42K OTD. Not sure on this, didn't give a quote paper to bring home and wouldn't give in case we went to another dealer asking for that price..

Anyhow he said the monthly would be $475 including EVERYTHING. Tax and all fees included. I feel like this is a great deal. The MF used was .00090.

I said I will close the deal tomorrow and needed the night to think. I feel like this is an awesome deal for a F sport with Nav. Let me know what you guys think ASAP.
  • gvillegagvillega Member Posts: 27
Ok so today was nearly succesful and then two things stopped me. I didnt tell dealer what it was i just said i needed time to think. The deal they are offering me has a money factor of .00075 thats right lower than .0009 what u quoted  so of course red flag went up in my head. He pulled out a book with all the money factors and said this is what 2015 is250 base MF is right now and that my source was wrong. Second thing was on the lease contract where it shows amount to be paid (i am paying $1000.00 by the way) it shows $2032.47 i asked why if i was only paying $1000.00 and they said dealer profits would pay for the $1032 i wasnt paying (a million red flags went up lol) there was a part that shouwed rebates and non cash credits for $1032.47

    IS 250 Fsport NO Navigation
    The contract #'s were
    MSRP $42,419.00
    Selling $38,122.31
    Predelivery service fee $799.00
    Electronic registration fee $498.00
Some other stuff like tax, lemon law, title reg. Equaled Cap Cost of $39754.86

    $1000 down
    $500 lease cash rebate

    Monthly payment including taxes $399.92

So why the incorrect info on "amount to be paid" and how is money factor lower.

What about the difference where it shows amount to be paid higher than what im pitting down. Im giving $1000.00 and that line shows $2032.47. In addition to that theres an area that shows rebates and non cash credits for $1032.47. Im assuming they are helping me out but i wasnt sure.

    Any thoughts on that

Yes, that is what is happening ... a rebate or other incentive is being used to contribute to the cap cost reduction.

Alright. So as you know I had an offer of 475 a month from a local dealer for an IS 250 F Sport. The MSRP on this was $45,222 and got $5000 discount with the residual being 70%. The $475 was for 27/12k.

Took this dealer to the only other dealer in my area. Told them had an offer from the other at $460 a month, said $15 less figured it might help. Dealer called back with an offer of $450 a month, I responded by saying I'd want it at $435/month. He said he'll talk to manager and email me back. Regardless, I think they'll bring it down to $435/month. This car's MSRP is $45600 and all else is the same. Dealers are calculating with my MF being at .00090

You guys think this is a good deal? $435 a month for 2015 IS 250 F Sport with Nav,

    Thank you.

If the $435/mo quote includes taxes, then I think it's a very good deal for a car that stickers at $45K.

I'd negotiate the selling price rather than the payment, however. Too much opportunity for the dealer to manipulate the numbers.

Alright. Didn't get a chance to look at all the numbers since this was over the phone. But if it is set at $435/month. What would I need to look to make sure they don't manipulate. What could they out as extras with the $435/month?

Check for hidden fees. Also need to make sure they aren't expecting any extra money due at signing over and above the first payment, dealer fees, bank fees and any state or local license or tag costs.

Alright got it. Yea the deal is for 0 down payment only first months payment. Regardless I will check over everything once in there, but all in all. Pull the trigger on it if everything's good?

How is this deal compared to what others have gotten?

The actual MF is not shown on the contract - the amount related to the MF is often referred to as the "Rent Charge".

Got it. Let's say my MF is .00090 which is 2.16%

What number on the contract would I multiply 2.16% with to get the rent charge?

It's not a single number ... use the following article to build your own lease calculator:

No need to convert the money factor to an APR to calculate. That's the whole point of having the money factor.

(Rent charge divided by lease term in months) divided by (NET CAP + Residual) = money factor

    Example:
$1260 lease charge (aka rent charge) divided by 36 months = $65/mo.
    ($43K CAP + $28.8K residual) = $71800
    $65 divided by $71800 = .00090 MF (approx).

Those are just made up numbers, though.. I just reversed the lease calculation.

    Hello,

Please check out the deal I was offered for a base 2015 Lexus IS 250. They said they don't really offer the current nationally advertised deal of $1,069 down and $349 per month because they have no cars in stock that retail at the 37,000 MSRP. So the lowest they have is around $41k.

Based off the $41k MSRP, they offered:

    Selling price: $39,633
    Rebate: $500
    Term: 36 mo, 10k miles
    Residual: 27,061 (66%)
    Payment: $487.96

This is all with a zero down payment. I would sign and pay the first month payment and drive the car. So the monthly payment is including taxes (8.7% here in Louisiana), title, licensing, everything possible.

I don't have the money factor but my credit is high 600's so I'm probably Tier 2 which is why the monthly payment is higher than it would be with a 0.0009, although they might be padding it a bit still.

All things considered though, I feel like I'm ending up with a much higher monthly payment than what I've seen on here. There's people getting offered 400 a month with zero down. What do you guys think? How should I negotiate from here?

    Thank you

Hmmm ... I'm showing the 36/10 residual as 65%. Not sure why your dealer thinks it's 66%.

Tier 2 MF is .00135; with your MSRP and selling price, I get a pre-tax payment of $450. Adding in the tax takes the payment to just over $489/mo, or right in line with your dealer quote.

I'd ask the dealers to firm up the numbers, especially the MF.

I'm seriously confused: I walked into a dealer today and they quoted $470/mo OTD with all taxes/fees/etc, $0 down. I ensured they ran the numbers with the residual and MF I learned here. When I take the exact same numbers the dealer provided in their breakdown into any available lease spreadsheet or calculator, I get $400/mo OTD.

Where could this major difference of $70/mo be coming from? Thanks!

I don't have all the numbers so I can't comment on why the calculations are different. The math doesn't change; find out what cap cost number they are using. That's usually the big difference in lease payments.
