Went to a dealer for a base 6MT with short throw shifter, wheel locks, and fog lights that came out to an MSRP of $28306 (including $830 transportation fee). Using the 66% residual and .00150MF, I was given this quote:

WRX Base 6MT with STS, Wheel Locks, Fog Lights - 36 months, 10,000 miles
MSRP: $28,306
Negotiated Price: $27,500
Either
Down payment: $1799 + tax (NYC 8.875%) + fees ($3400~ total quoted)
Monthly Payment: $306
OR
Down payment: $1799 + fees
Monthly Payment: $333 (includes tax)

How does this sound? I still don't know if this is a good deal or not. Thank you!

Leaving the tax and fees out of the equation, your numbers give me a payment of $295.38/mo with $0 down.

We do not recommend making a down payment on a lease - if the car is stolen or totaled, you lose that money.

You can choose to pay the tax up front or roll it into your lease in NY.

Ah I see, thank you. Any idea why the number I was quoted is so high? It seems like I would be overpaying by a huge margin but they said they are basing it off of the $27,500 price.

Subaru has a "promotion" where you can lease a base WRX ($26,595) for $299/month and $1799 down for 12k/36. That also seems high and seems like you are paying for a car worth more than $27k. Something doesn't add up, do you know why this is?

The MF for Subarus (especially WRXs) are pretty high by comparison.

Ask the dealer what the net cap cost is .. if it's higher than the selling price they've given you, ask them what's been added. You might find some fees you weren't expecting.

SMF allows dealers to mark up the MF by .00050 above the base rate, for extra profit.

If the dealer attempts to mark up the rate, then that is definitely part of your negotiations. Be aware that most dealers that markup the rate will try to hide it.

So far as we can tell, Subaru numbers are national. They might be different in New England.

If the whole $3000 goes to CAP cost reduction, then yes..

But, you'll also have 1st payment, acquisition fee and DMV fees due at signing, besides the $3000.

What is the MSRP?

How would the $2000 be applied? There are start up costs to a lease - bank fee, dealer fee, first payment...

Well, the MSRP was listed as about $36k, but they can reduce the sale price to about $35k. The $2k would be applied as money down, with "Subaru pays first payment" taking care of that part. I'd end up paying the bank fee or dealer fees out of pocket in addition to the money down.

I have received an out-the-door price for WRX premium (manual) of $31,526 (including 8.75% sales tax), on MSRP of $30,526. Lease offer of $995 down, 36 months, 10k year, residual 20,147 and MF .00225 is $487/month with tax, $447 without tax. This seems very high. Can anyone please let me know what the correct amount should be so I can reply with it?

Out the door price with tax won't mean much, unless your state taxes the full price on a lease. Which state?

.00175 MF and 66% residual. So, they are marking up the MF the maximum amount allowed.
