How can I cite this forum as a reputable source? I ordered a WRX Limited that came in a day ago after waiting almost 3 months. You and another source quoted me .00170 and the dealership is trying to tell me that its .0022 and that they "don't know where I got this information from (the info being that the MF is .00170" and that its not .00170 which I told them I know isn't true, but they still continued to lie through their teeth. So they basically quote me a selling price of $33,030 which is $1,295 under MSRP and they're making it right back by marking up the MF. What gives? Is there anyway I get around this situation? They're basically holding me hostage and trying to give me the run-around.

First and foremost, make sure they are leasing the car to you through Subaru's finance arm and not another bank. Second, where are you located? Subaru of New England has different residuals and money factors that the hosts here don't have access to. They just have the information for Subaru of America.
Do you have what Subaru of America considers top tier credit?
You shouldn't feel like you are being held hostage, especially when buying an awesome car like a WRX. Don't go in and dicker about the money factor or where you are getting the source from. Walk in, put your MSRP, selling price, lease term (years & residual), money factor, residual value on a piece of paper with the payment plus tax. Firmly and politely tell them this is what you are paying and that you won't sign a deal with a marked up money factor.
If they insist on marking up the money factor, figure out how much more it is going to cost you over the life of the lease and deduct that from your selling price.
Are there other dealers in your area?
Good luck & keep us posted!

Can you walk away from the deal?
.00170 is the 6MT MF for the WRX Limited for 36 months. Dealer can mark up by as much as .00050.
Contact another dealer and ask them what the MF is .. if they give you the base rate perhaps you can get the dealers to compete against each other for your business.
But, with an ordered vehicle, your options may be limited.
Ok, so I just got the entire itemized breakdown... And it appears instead of .0024 for MF they are using .0029
Price: 30,267 Cap Reduction: -2,285.86 Net Trade: 2,400 Additional Charges: 1,191.20 Cap Cost: 31,572.34 Residual 65%: 19,673.55 MF: .0029 Additional Capitalized Charges Acquisition Fee: 595.00 Document Fee: 589.00 Title Fee: 7.20
Base Payment: 479.13 Sales Tax: 40.72 Cap Reduction: 2,285.86 Cap Reduction Tax: 194.29 Additional Charges: -3,000 Cash Received: 3,000 Payment for 36 month lease: 519.85
I get the same base payment for those numbers, but that MF is killing you.
It might be cheaper to wait out the current lease and hope your credit is in a better place at that time. The base MF of 00170 would save you about $60/mo on the base payment, or close to $2200 over the life of the lease.
Ok awesome. I just wanted to make sure that I was following their numbers correctly as I also thought that it pretty much was just the MF that was messing me up. Only fear I have is that over the next 6 months I will definitely put even more miles on the car which will in turn lower my trade even further.

You don't have to trade your car in at the end of the lease .. you can simply turn it in, pay the mileage penalty and start fresh with a new lease.
That is true. I think my penalty for mileage on my Legacy is .25 a mile so I am already at $2,500.. That is why I was thinking it really isn't that much different if I were put the 3k down now and get into a new car. Not sure if the WRX would come down even further in price in the next few months?

Anything is possible with future numbers and pricing.
But, the negative equity AND the inflated MF are a double whammy. Waiting may mitigate one of those factors.
Well.. Just heard back from the dealership and it looks like it pays to wait and slow play until the end of the month. They came back and are willing to give me full payoff on my trade which lowered my payment a little more so I think I have a deal.

That's good news! End of the month pressure works both ways. They may have needed that one more sale to make a volume target for extra bonus money.

Could you please provide the MF and residual for a 2016 WRX Limited w/ CVT? I am trying to get one ASAP and have been quoted some very high prices so far, best they've given me for a base model was $408.07 per month including tax with a 2,000 drive off.
The dealership I was at has a fully loaded model for $35,382 and I am trying to get that one, what would a fair monthly payment be with $2,000 drive off?

Your payment will be based primarily on the negotiation of the selling price. Don't negotiate the payment amount. Use the "make / model / year" pull downs at the top of the page to link to the price tools, and read back through the last page or two of this discussion to see what others have paid.
can you provide numbers for a 2016 wrx premium? This is my first lease I wanna see if I'm getting an alright deal
How long of a lease & how many miles per year do you drive? Manual or CVT?
Also, make sure you don't put any money "down" as a Capitalized Cost Reduction. If your car is stolen or totaled at any point during the lease, you will lose that money.

Monthly payments of about 350, how much should my residual value be at the end of my lease in case I wanna buy it out. the final price of the car is around 27000, like I said this is my first time leasing and I just don't want to be taken advantage of.

We would need to know the MSRP as well as the selling price in order to calculate the payments.
If your intention is to keep the car longer than the lease term, it may be better to buy it rather than lease.

The dealership got back to me with a sales price of $35,382 and said the money factor is 0.00165 with a $23,496.48 residual which equates to 66% on a 12k miles per year lease.
Are they attempting to drive up the residual and make me pay more? When I used the calculator tools I arrived at a monthly payment for a 15k per year lease that was $7 less per month than what they told me the 12k per year would be.
I put a $300 deposit down to hold the car but I also want to make sure that I get the best deal possible. Was planning to call the dealership tonight or tomorrow morning and get them to give me the 15k per year for the $7 less than what they had quoted me, any advice on how to get them to agree?

The dealer is not allowed to modify the residual.
However, 66% is the 36/12 residual for the WRX Premium, not the Limited. But, the MF on the Premium CVT is .00200, so perhaps the dealer is mixing the numbers inadvertently?

I'll have to clear that up with them tomorrow. If I go in there with the calculator and show them the correct numbers I wonder what they will say.
I also found it interesting that they took my credit card for a $300 deposit on the phone but didn't return my call to change the time I was planning to go in and pick up the car

It depends on the dealer - some will offer a 'mea culpa' and correct the mistakes, others will try a song and dance to tell you your numbers are somehow wrong.
FWIW, a higher residual results in a lower lease payment.
Thanks Michaell, I was figuring that much, but its only WRX in my area in one of the colors I'm looking for. Its a MT by the way.
I might drive to detroit for a Limited without the STI sport package.
That one is listed at an MSRP of $32,433. No idea what their sale price would be, but what residual value should I be looking for on that for a 36 M/10K? I'm thinking that might be closer to my target with no cap reduction.

I'd like keep it to at or below $2000 down, and below $400 per month payment. Possible?
Thanks,
We recommend no cap reduction; that money would be lost if the vehicle is stolen or totaled.
