What dealer are you working with?

That's a purchase quote, not a lease quote - taxes on a lease in CO are assessed on the monthly payment.

And, there are fees associated with a lease that don't exist when you buy (bank fee, for one).

What's your opinion on the MSRP and Discount? Since we started this process, the stock number on the quote above has sold, now negotiating on another Passat SE with a sticker of $27,520. I told the dealer to take the trade in vehicle out of the calculation. I'm heading over there this afternoon to try to close out the negotiation.

Just leased a 2016 VW Passat R-Line with Comfort & Lighting Package today -- MSRP $27,065. 
Car was equipped with Monster Mats set (with trunk liner and cargo blocks), wheel locks and road side assistance kit.

36 month lease with 12k miles a year. NYC area.

total out of pocket at signing was $598 which included first months payment ($276), NY DMV ($235), doc fee ($75), and tire fee of ($12)

35 remaining payments of $276.40

shopped a lot of different makes and even different models within VW and decided on the Passat R-Line. Had to shop a few dealers before getting to this price as some dealers initially started me out at $330 a month (???). Pays to shop around and negotiate! 

Many thanks to the moderators here for providing the numbers and keeping the dealers honest. You guys are the best.

I get the same pre-tax payment ($267.82), but the MF that is being used is very high. The base MF for the Passat in May was .00020. Ask the dealer why they've marked it up.

I will be going in to the dealership for my Passat today. Do I simply tell them I am leasing before negotiating the price to get the $3500 lease cash? They have mentioned a $1000 VW Conquest bonus but no lease cash upfront.

Yes.. tell them you are leasing. Otherwise, they won't factor that money in.

Is it basically a guaranteed discount to MSRP? Or a cash incentive above and beyond the negotiated offer price? For example, truecar quotes an estimated price paid for 2016 V6 Passat that is ~$4,700 below MSRP. Does this imply $3,500 of lease cash + $1,200 of additional negotiated discount?

Please cash is a factory incentives. Rest assured that any quote you get from the dealer already includes it. You want to negotiate your best price, then subtract the incentive.

Negotiate your best price, then subtract the incentive. Cannot speak to other websites.

You can use the trade equity to help with the up front costs of the lease - dealer fee, bank fee, first payment, DMV or registration costs. If there is anything left over, have the dealer cut you a check for the balance.

You may actually be better off selling the car privately, if you think it's only worth $2000 in trade. Head over to the "Real World Trade in Values" discussion here for a good idea of what your car is worth, and how best to sell it (trade or private party).

All Passats have the same program this month - .00015 and 55% or 44%. Only difference is the lease cash - 1.8T has $2500, while the V6 has $3000
