How about them Giants? What happened to them? They are doing a good job stinking it up even more than the Oakland A's that have been cursed like the Cubs and Red Sox since they traded Canseco the first time.

The San Jose team is their farm team, and they stink, too! :p As I'm sure you all know, Rancho Cucamonga and the Modesto Nuts are the teams to beat in this league. Stay tuned for more nail-biting action.

Love Cadillac ATS. Have a salvage one. Bought this ATS here recently for 4900 usd. Seems like a good deal https://abetter.bid/en/car-finder/type-automobiles/make-cadillac/model-ats . What do you think? The car only had rear damage – not a big deal.

Just in case this is not spam (and I have my doubts), that's a terrible deal. A clean one with that many miles is worth about $12k-$12.5k as a trade. For salvage title, that would be about $6k. So to spend $5k on it and have to make all those repairs for a car worth $6k? Nope!

I also think rear end damage that caused a "salvaged title" meaning the car was totalled; is a very BIG deal.

Someone said the same thing about a salvage title low mileage R8 they were trying to unload for $75K (Admitted Carmax offered 59K). Carmax had it right.

I'm with you, Q. I was thinking if (BIG IF) this really is an auction, someone's getting their derriere handed to them for bidding that amount. If a sight wants to sell salvage cars, tell the potential customer that. I'm thinking the shipping costs would be more than the car is worth.

Had Bengals season tickets for about 10 years. Once Carson Palmer pulled his vanishing act, I gave them up. Who would have thunk the team would turn it around? They did, and still are.

something like this is probably what I should get. Probably a nice car, if all serviced and no immediate needs. For a spare car to put 3-5K miles/year on, should have plenty of life. And hard to argue with the price. Could quite possibly use it for a couple years and pretty much break even. Too bad it is still a bit too early!

oh, I am well aware of that one. My guess is that running costs will be a few $k more per year on that one! If it had a stick, I would not care though.

So, your options seem to be:

    1. Lease something new with all the latest bells and whistles
    2. Buy something older with low miles, since you don't drive all that much
    3. Buy a used luxury make and get the better driving experience

    Sound about right?

2 should be older with high miles. either one works though.

Pretty sure if I go with a luxury make, it will be a new lease or a slightly used one (CPO type).

most likely I do something totally random and unexpected, on a whim, after spending months over-analyzing every option.

151,000+ miles. Hmm. Even today I think most cars are about to have something seriously go wrong with them at that point.

I think car companies try to figure out how long they want a car to last before something goes wrong, and I'm sure for all of them they try for well over 100,000 miles at this point. But I'm not sure it's much more than 150k for most of them. If they "over-engineer" every important component that could happen, but too much "over-engineering" is likely to cost them more money than it's worth to them. At least, that's my guess.

I would respectfully disagree on this. Why? This morning, the cab I got to take me to the hospital was a 2009 Sonata (it said so on the license placard) and it was their high-line model as it has some sort of gray leather inside. I was instantly reminded of a GM car of the late '90s/early 2000s inside - the entire "sea of gray" interior with lots of gray plastic and virtually no brightwork. It just felt extremely dated. I thought of a former co-worker who bought one of these 6 years ago as a late-model used car and how he must feel about it now. I have to think he would be disappointed with it now if he ever rode in a newer car.

I think you have greatly overcomplicated stick's thinking. I believe he has 1 option on the table only ...something with 4 wheels and a propulsion system.

I think that 150,000 miles is about the time that modern cars often start needing emissions system parts replaced. Common items include EGR valve, oxygen sensors, and catalytic converter. Many times, though, I think that the primary cause of engine lights and performance issues is due to sensors, such as oxygen and airflow. Reduced efficiency of the EGR system will also put more stress on other components.

Granted, many of these things can be ignored for a time, but that doesn't necessarily do the rest of the system any favors!

Fiat has been an almost complete failure in the US market. Six years after Fiat was re-introduced to the US with much fanfare, total sales last year were 32,742, having fallen from a 46,121 a couple of years before. Nissan sells more Rogues in a month than Fiat sells of all its models in a year. That is a cute convertible at a low price, but isn't there a chance this is going to be an orphan car at some point? With sales falling even lower this year isn't there a chance that Fiat will fold again in the US?
