Huh - hadn't realized that IL changed the laws again.

Nonetheless, if they don't want to be transparent about the pricing, that may be a dealer you don't want to do business with.

Yes.. the sales tax is applied to the downpayment and monthly payments, but it is still collected upfront at lease signing. So, either it's paid upfront, or added to the CAP cost.

Mistery solved. They were using a .00094 MF and offered to drop it to .00084 with Autpay. I told that I will not pay anything above .00071 and walked from the deal.

Went to another dealer who gave me a lower payment on a lower MSRP:

MSRP 78,680
Discount 7000
Fleet Disount 1000

Price = 70680
42 month / 10K
.00071 MF
acquisition fee 1095

With IL taxes 7.25 on lease amount and rolled back to collect interest, the payment is
Monthly 836 (824 with Autopay)
First month, title and doc due at signing.

I asked about the acquisition fee but they said that they discounted the car by so much and that I shouldn't care how they got to theit number/

Mistery solved. They were using a .00094 MF and offered to drop it to .00084 with Autpay. I told that I will not pay anything above .00071 and walked from the deal.

Went to another dealer who gave me a lower payment on a lower MSRP:

MSRP 78,680

Well.. they have a point. They could make the fee $795 and only give you a $6700 discount, and you'd be at the same number.

I leased a GLS 450 last weekend. The information on here was invaluable. Thank you. I live in Louisiana, and have two small MB dealerships, each 1.5 hrs away. Neither were willing to offer much more than a 2k discount. I travel to Houston and knew there were multiple large dealerships there. I emailed the two largest, and immediately had offers of 5-6k off. Over several days, I negotiated with both dealerships. One dealer offered 11.3% off MSRP, but held firm on the 1095 AF and an elevated .00131 MF. The other offered 8% off MSRP with standard MF and 795 AF. I compared the two deals, and my costs were very close. I ended up going with the 11.3% dealer. I flew one way, salesman picked me up at the airport, spent 1.5 hrs at the dealership, and I drove the GLS home (5.5 hr drive). 11hrs round trip.

Thank you again for the info. I just wanted to share since I've read many posts asking about current discount amounts. The Louisiana dealerships are around a 5 hr drive from Houston, so a trip was well worth it.

Dealers are starting to wise up on the MF vs. discount issue. Glad you ran the numbers both ways and found the better deal.

In my experience, there is no recognizable pattern between months.

.00071 MF is pretty low, historically for the GLS

Congratulations on your deal. The take home message is to use the power of the internet to look for the best deal. I will also add that a deal is always going to have something you do not like. The discount may be amazing, but money is being made on the money factor, acquisition fee, and dealer, prep, or doc fee. As long as one is aware of these interplay of numbers, you can better understand your ease deal. Kyfdx and Michael appreciate your thoughts.

Just wanted to share my deal that I got yesterday: 2017 GLS450 MSRP 88,705. Drive offs (no cap reduction) + 10 MSDs. Payment 965/mo inc tax in CA. 36mo/12k miles. It could have been better, they were marking up the MF by .0002; called them out on it, but they couldn't lower any further, but it balanced out with the big discount I got on the MSRP of about 9%. All in all, not a bad deal. 

Most Southern California dealers are not making great deals on these cars because apparently 70% of them are being exported to China after the sale, crazy! I had one dealership refuse to sell me a car at any price unless I was returning an MB lease!

We haven't seen any changes in the MF on the GLS550 or GLS63 - always been the standard MF

This is actually the first time the 550 has had a lower money factor than "standard".

The 63S uses the standard money factor. (.00200+)

OK that's good info. MBUSA is showing the GLS 450 special offers, what is the MF on those? I have a hard time paying 4.2% when I can get an Escalade fully loaded with a 3k incentive and like 1.2%; but, we know the wife is the boss and we will have to get what she wants, lol. I better not show her the AMG version then. She loves that white diamond stitching leather.

I was going to custom order a GLS 450 but I just found out that Mercedes doesn't let you lock in a lease rate on an order. Any idea how rare or how often the 1.2% APR happens on the GLS 450? I might just have to order a 550 now. If I'm going to pay a high rate, I'll get what I want. I just hate paying that high of a rate, more than I care about the actual cost of the payment. Sounds silly but I can't stand borrowing money that expensive.

The .00071 has been the MF on the 450 for a number of months. It's the entry level model of the GLS-class.

If you want a good rate, get a compact or mid-sized sedan. I'm paying .00005 on my 2016 Jetta (.12%). My total rent charge for a 36 month lease is just over $50. Any SUV is going to have a high MF, as that is the most popular segment being sold.
