I have to imagine a longbed 4x4 460 manual of such a late year is a rare bird indeed.

For the Blazer, I like it for the stripes.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I just learned this sold at auction a few months ago

Well-bought IMO, great car and piece of memorabilia. I remember seeing director's commentary of the movie, where they remarked the car was perfectly reliable during filming.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Those were very good cars indeed. Probably a small bump in value there, for celebrity status, + the auction commission fees, but all in all, the price was fair enough. Very rare car in its own right. I believe this model had hydraulic windows and AC available as a trunk mounted unit.

Bit torquey straight-8 engine. These cars weren't fast but you could pull a house down with one.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
If I had enough idle cash and space, I'd have been tempted. I remember when I was a kid, seeing the car in the movie and thinking how nice it looked. It'd be one of the few cars of that era that might interest younger enthusiasts, due to its role. Many great shots of it in the trilogy.

    Browsing NYC Craigs

Definitely seeing less listings since they started charging but finding some interesting listings

https://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/cto/d/stamford-audi-a6-avant-06/6875491120.html Audi A6 Avant. Neat car and looks really good but if it just needs a coil......

https://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/cto/d/ellington-1967-vw-type-1-beetle/6875199461.html 67 Beetle. Looks real clean and unrestored

Bug is really nice but has probably been restore and price is What?

1999 911 (lots of numbers there) is in CT, but has Montana plates?

'06 Audi Avant -- Place a small metal bucket on a concrete slab. Fill with money. Spray liberally with charcoal lighter. Apply match.

'99 Porsche Cab -- not a bad price really, although tiptronic is regrettable. Miles are ok for a Porsche. VIN is wrong. Seats need work. Needs a closer look.

'91 Miata--nice little car it seems

'12 Audi --well, you know, it's an Audi, so there's risk. Been serviced at an instant oil change place, so that's kinda scary. Strong asking price. You'd need to look at all the service records to see what's coming up for you.

Took the old dear out for a drive today, first time in a month. Fired right up and ran fine as usual, but today was not without a little drama.

The horizontal wood trim on the driver's door panel decided to detach itself today. Upon examining the clips, I'll need to remove the door panel to reattach it. Fun! I wasn't in the mood for that today, so I just placed it in the back seat for another time.

A little worse, someone apparently broke in to the secured garage where the car sleeps, and prowled a bunch of cars, including mine. I could sense something was amiss when I arrived, and the car cover was disheveled. I first thought maybe a gust of wind dislodged it, and someone put it back on haphazardly, or maybe someone just peeked. But then I noticed the back door was slightly opened. The glovebox was dumped out (I keep tons of papers in it), I could tell someone had rifled through the door pockets, moved the visors, etc. There was nothing of real value in the car, but they made off with a non-working tire gauge I found in the car when I bought it, and an old tape measure I found at a yard sale when I was a kid, and kept because I liked the design. These might have been worth $5 at a flea market, but I am still irked. Funny thing, they didn't grab the hood star, which I detach and keep in the car, and didn't get into the trunk, which has spare parts, tools, and a fire extinguisher. The prior owner lost the door key, and I have never bothered to get another, as I'd rather have someone root around than break a window. I noticed several of the other old cars had messed up covers, too. Maybe it just happened.

Gratuitous pic for today, a lovely spring Sunday:

Serial number decodes to a 289. I wouldn't be surprised if it is manual steering and brakes, too - my dad would have loved that thing, reminds me of his 68 Fairlane which he was very fond of.

Oh, yes. It is lovely to behold, but I would never buy such a car. I grew up with a mother who literally never owned a car that had four doors (even a couple of wagons she had were two-door). After climbing in and out of such cars for so long, I am just completely soured on them.

Long time ago I used a 305 V6 pic for a "Mystery Car" engine clue. Apparently the "Scotch Plaid" valve covers were a 1963 only feature which denoted that the V6 had been revised by GM for better fuel economy. The story goes that the Suburban ads for that year emphasized the new "thrifty" nature of the 305 V6.

Around here that fox body Capri would sell quick if running/driving and not rusted out. Too bad no interior pics. Wonder if the A/C is inop? Not a big thing in Tacoma.

Opel GT seller really wants to just take it with him.

    Ramcharger

Love how plush it is. How many could have been made like that back then? It's an executive truck before that was a thing. I like the Chevelle also but the headers seem to be an odd choice for that car

That V6 is new to me, but it turns out to be one of many GMC made, including a V12 version:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMC_V6_engine

edit - neat feature - the spark plugs are on the inlet side of the head, rather than the exhaust. Any other V engines like that?

'53 Cadillac -- These are so expensive to restore, so you'd never see the light of day on this one if you paid $10,000. Even getting it free would make it a seriously losing proposition. Too bad--would make a great parts car, though.

'84 Ramcharger -- if it's as advertised, it's a steal. There's even money on the table for a flip.

'69 Open GT -- a few hours stripping off small bits, then to the dumpster.

BMW Wagon -- fair enough, but plan to spend some money to fettle and fiddle.

Corolla FX --fair enough with all the parts thrown in.

'63 GMC w/ Camper -- the camper looks a bit nasty to sleep in. Might be better selling separately. Truck seems to be carrying more than is safe.

Well it is what it is -- either there's value in these things or there isn't. How he phrases it doesn't change the function or condition. I think you're being too hard on him here! :D

Reminds me of the old joke:

    Hubby at his 55th birthday: "Hon, I don't look 55, do I?"
    Wife: "Not anymore."
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I don't think he said the interior was 3 years old--he was talking about the tires??

I see a lot of junk trucks out there for $5K, so his price seems reasonable to me, and these old rigs are going up in value.

We had two of those Accords in my house. One was a gold LX and then my Stepdad bought a charcoal grey LXi to replace it. IIRC they were both 88s. My stepbrother drove them both and they held up pretty well. This was in the late 90s/early 2000s.

At one time I swear those Accords were around 1 out of every 3 cars on the road in this area. Even 30 years after production ended, they are still not uncommon. That one is probably a fair deal for the price. I remember the durable and nice upholstery in those.
