roll down the windows and open the roof. that's free. I have no need for AC on something like this.

I think the Town Car is the bargain there, if it is as claimed. I notice the original window sticker lists delivery to a local dealer, a good sign.

It's Seattle. You don't need AC--but you do need windshield wipers.

I require AC on anything I drive!

It is 80 today, I used it in my car and it’s on in my house!

Oh, come summer you'll need AC more than you think. The climate has gotten hotter there.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,350
today? I opened the windows in the house to get fresh air. It was wonderful. Window down and moonroof open in the car.

was almost warm enough to dig out a pair of shorts! But I did not bother.

It’s partly because of allergies too, pollen is starting up. We all are bothered by it to an extent.

Assuming it has a split front bench, you could cram 2 lines in it, and all the gear in the trunk no doubt.

Regarding AC, it may not be needed in Seattle compared to Atlanta or Las Vegas, but I swear it is hotter here in the summer than when I was a kid, and you'll still sweat a bit without it.

Some people need air more than others...I just hate to be hot.

I remember when I had the beater 79 Continental. When I got it the first thing I got fixed was the AC. It was rotted, smoked, had zero oil pressure at hot idle.... BUT it threw 30 degree air from the vents that would frost over if the windows were cracked on a humid day. 4.5 lbs of R12 Freon, it would have cooled a small house.

I did the same when I was fixing up my 70 DeVille convertible. A couple of cans of R12 and frigid air restored. That was when R12 was cheap and not yet commonly known that it was harmful to the ozone. As it made little difference to the poor gas mileage the Caddy got, AC with the top down was icing on the cake.

RE: '81 Rolls --"3rd owner's health forces prompt sale" -- heart attack after last repair bill, I'd guess.

RE: '90 Volksbaru -- they might get that price if it's really well-equipped and ready to roll. Small RV camping is a big deal right now, especially with Vanagons. They caravan in large groups and party.

RE: '82 Porsche ---GEEZ, this deal is so "iffy" on many levels. Is it a "real" slantnose? Where's the engine? Where's the transmission? The owner never, ever researched the car's origins? Really?

Yeah, but you live near the ocean.

My folks bought their first car in the late 1950's; first car with AC was the '83 they bought used in the mid 80's.

They too live near the ocean

I dealt with no AC in the fintail for years, but when it came time to get a car made after I was born, I wanted AC. The prior owner of the W126 had the system updated, so it worked fine - sometimes not a strong point of those cars. One can manage here without AC, but if they are a native, they probably think anything above 85 is a fiery hellscape, and will want it.

Interesting set of CL ads. Makes me jealous here in Rustville, MI.

    Regarding the Westy.
Steiner's law of used cars states that "you do not buy any model where a named engine swap exists." Just the fact that people know what you mean by "Subaru Engine Conversion" pretty much is all you need to know. Of course, these are not really used cars, they are people's toys and probably third vehicles.

The exception to the above Law is the LS1 swap.
    That's different.

The CRX, if as nice as it looks, is a deal.
    Try finding better.

    @jpp75,
You had to send me down the BAT rabbit hole.
That 88 TBird Turbo Coupe caught my eye.
Luckily, an auto trans and bid way up.
Could have been a great way go 'back in the day'. :)
I didn't realize the auction was just about to end, but it sold for 10,650.

The Neon's AC failed in the Summer, at about mile 36,100, I'm not joking. It was a mandatory decision to fix it immediately.

I noticed the 88 TBird as well in my venture down the rabbit hole. It's the car I would have bought 35 years ago, but with a manual.

I saw one of those last year. It was black and black and had been lowered, and obviously had a sport exhaust and different wheels. It looked really appealing, I must say, in that configuration.

'79 Fiat 124 --this might be a SEAT, as it has the "5-speed manuel" transmission :D

'76 Mercury Wagon -- a text book case of "rare" not meaning valuable. (Rule of Thumb: "It has to be rare, AND someone has to care"). OK, I guess but not at this price.

'66 Valiant -- I wonder if Jesus goes with the car? Couldn't hurt. Great salt car!

'93 Supra -- RHD always takes a big hit in the USA unless the car was never offered LHD, like on an MG TC. You have to figure 30-50% discount, depending on the car.

'95 Range Rover -- how about free? Donate it to a charity you hate. Or to the Naval Bombing Range in Nevada. They need targets.

'67 MB 250SL --coupla problems here--the 250SL is the least valuable of the trio, this is a Euro spec car, tires are wrong size, no engine pix. Might be okay at the price. It will need close scrutiny, especially for rust repair, non-original body panels, prior collision damage.

'66 VW Pickup -- poorly repainted rig from Poland with engine transplant and dog kennel interior. Such a bargain!

'90 Burb -- I like old Suburbans. Something of a legend and even the beat-up ones pull some strong money. Shiftright Stamp of Approval on this one.

    '87 Samurai -- doesn't inspire confidence. I dunno?

Colony Park is kinda cool, but seriously overpriced.

At first I thought it didn't have A/C but realized it has auto-temp. That has to be rare without rear defrost.
