Those generation accords were some fine engineering.

I love the Z28. Not the price though. And weird lovers and trunk full of electronics can go too. “All original” other than the crate motor, but that’s probably a very useful upgrade.

    Honestly, I hated them both.

Odd steering and loud buzzy engines.

I had an 89 Grand Marquis and then a 93 Taurus so maybe bad comparisons at the time.

We also had a 94 Spirit V6 my other stepbrother drove and I preferred that.

That F85 could be nice, too bad they couldn't get it out of the garage for some decent pics, even though it's 'still running like a top' :(

'84 Saab Turbo--run away like your hair was on fire. One of my nominees for "Worst Car in the World".

    '86 Fiero--good parts car!

One nice thing about a Saab Turbo in the '80s: It was fast, compared to most of the vehicles out there, even the expensive ones.

I had a manager who bought an '88 LX-i, with a stick shift. I had an opportunity to drive it, once. I really liked it, and agree that the fabric on the seats was luxurious and durable - almost courderoy-like.

The seats were nice and the LXi was pretty loaded for the time too. Alloys, power everything, cruise and a sunroof (with controls to the left of the steering wheel).

IIRC the LXi had a more powerful engine than the LX

I skipped that generation. I had an '85 hatchback, then both a '92 (LX) and '93 (DX).

Haven't had a Honda since; I may have to recitfy that, someday.

I always thought early 90s generation was a great design. Same goes for the 92 Camry as well. They still look good today IMO.

IMO 90-93 was peak Accord, with 94-97 following.

I agree on the '90-'93 model. Saw one just a couple of days ago, in the Teal color that apparently made it onto 50% of the fleet. LX model.

Not that fond of the '94-'97, though... We had a '97. The '99 and '01 models we had were much better.

I always liked the look of the wagon of both generations. Styling-wise anyway, I think both were also winners. Clean lines, tall greenhouses, good quality, if not maybe a little tepid in 4 cyl form as the cars packed on size and weight. But the V6 can be a risk with transmissions.

I would take the 240 to park in the garage and putz around with. Would never finish it of course, and probably need a bigger garage.

The Camero interior looks good. Body not bad. Cheap enough, could be a fun project for a kid.

I really have a soft spot for he silver Z28 too. Always liked the generation. Yeah, I have weird tastes.

I never cease to be amazed how many classified/Craigs ads misspell the name as "Camero". It has always been so since the late 1960s.

I agree that if the pics are accurate you could do a lot worse for $3K. I prefer that first slant-nose crash-bumper style to the flexi-bumper type that came later.

'53 Austin --dontcha just love people's creativity-- "the paint looks good except for some wear spots and rust bubbles".

'82 Benz SD -- does seem fair priced----but miles are mighty high. Good test for these old diesels? If they crank and crank before they start, you got a problem. They should "ignite" almost instantly once the glow plug light goes off. If not, suspect low compression and severe engine wear. Another tip? Look for oil in the air filter (blow-by). Most repairs are big bucks, so buy 'em right.

'77 Camero -- nothing like my Alpha Romero

Two Cadillacs ---now let's see. Do I want a rust bucket or a transmission overhaul? Geez, this is tough!
  • tjc78tjc78 Member Posts: 16,951

I drove an Odyssey one time on the coastal sand dunes in Oregon. Mine was gutless. But, it really was a blast to drive on the dunes if I remembered not to tax its limited oomph too much. As a 12-yo kid, I remember looking around seeing everyone else crawl over the dunes with impunity, wondering what I was doing wrong.

When our time was up and we were returning the units, I mentioned my frustration to the owner when she says, "How was your ride?!" She called a mechanic over, who incidentally also was chaperoning us while we were out on the dunes (in his own Ody), and he's fiddling with it, then says, "Wow. I can't believe we missed THAT! I'm amazed that you were able to do the things you did."

The lady gave my dad a discount on the rental, so I guess that was cool.

This past weekend, I bought a new battery for my '84 Big Red (three-wheeler), and started tearing apart the carb on it again. It was flooding the last time I used it, so I think I just need to clean up the carb and it should be good to go.

The Odyssey/Pilot talk makes me laugh at an old memory. Back when the Plymouth Prowler was the talk of the town, I was a student in a town with a nearby RV dealer who sold Prowler travel trailers/campers, who had a big "Prowler" sign out front. A friend an I often drove by the lot, and he had an idea to visit and be very excited and serious about buying a Prowler, but deep into the talks he would act surprised that they didn't sell Prowler cars. Funny how names can coexist or come back:
