    Hello guys!
First lease for me, so patience greatly appreciated. I'm finally seeing the game, especially between the lease ad and what you're potentially hit with in the end. But, I'm up for the challenge...
    Three questions...
    1) 2017 MDX AWD Base 12K 36 month lease has MF of 0.00050, RV of 55%? (was 58% last month), and $3000. incentive.
    2) Saw an MDX Tri-State NYC TV ad last night for AWD Base 10K 36 month lease with "net capitalized cost" of $40,773.75 - that is also referred to as the "adjusted capital cost", correct?
    3) This net capitalized cost "includes the $595 acquisition fee" and a "total payment of $2499.00" is due at signing. SO... they are "selling" the car for "$43272.75"... in the ad... and the purchaser is "giving" them a total of $2499. at closing. BUT they also say the figure does not include the mandatory stuff (tax, license, title, registration, doc fee ($75 in New York State, correct?), options, insurance) AND "the like"! "The Like" = the "dealer fees" or any fees they can dream up, correct? That's where the price negotiating occurs, correct?
Thanks in advance for your info!

    1) MDX base 36/12 is .00050 and 57%; $3000 total lease incentives
    2) Yes, "net cap" and "adjusted cap" are the same thing
    3) There is no dealer fee in NY; the $75 doc fee is what is charged. NY also taxes the sum of the payments and collects that money up front; we suggest you add that amount into the net cap cost, along with all other fees except the DMV or registration costs.

You should be able to negotiate a better price than the one in the ad.

I get $514/mo before tax with those numbers. Ask the dealer what the adjusted cap cost is they are using to get to the $531/mo number, and make sure you understand the difference

    Hi Everyone,

Been looking for 3 row SUVs and settled on the MDX.
Went to a dealer today and feel like a I got good lease numbers but almost felt to easy.
Wanted to run it by you guys before committing.

Base AWD Acura MDX 36months/10,000 miles
    MSRP 47,025
    Discount 7,900
    Total Adjusted Cap Cost: 39125
MF: not sure but calculated at "top tier" didnt run credit yet
    residual 58% (27,274.50)

    No money down
First month payment + reg fee (135), title, doc and vehicle fee (395) + Aquisition fee (595) + tax on cash down (61.88) + 1,571.91 total up front dues.

Monthly payment after taxes (6.25%) comes out to 385.03 per month.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Didn't have to negotiate much to get there. Should I push for more. Check out other dealerships? Do you think I could as for 12,000/year for same monthly costs? Or should I take it before they take it off the table. Gave me 48 hours to think about it. Sales person was really nice. Dealership overall got great reviews online.

    Thanks a bunch!!!

I get the same payment, to the penny.

Looks like a real strong deal.

Only thing I'd do differently is add the acquisition and doc fees to the selling price.

Payment goes up to $414.77, but up front costs come down to about $550.

Is it better to lease or buy the Acura MDX? We work from home so do not get much mileage on the car. We have two kids who will more than likely mess up the car from the inside. We are interested in getting an electric car few years down the line which is why I'm wondering if lease makes more sense or does it make more sense to sell the Acura at that point? Also, no issues with money...we can put the entire money down today if need be. Thanks!

How much is "not much" mileage?

You are paying for whatever mileage allotment you sign up for, whether you use it or not.

Acura does offer a 7500 mile per year allowance - would that work?

If you take halfway decent care of the car, having kids shouldn't penalize you at the end of the lease.

You may want to consider a gently used CPO vehicle.

I have an almost 4 year old and a 2 year old.  We lease and have zero problems.  Just turned in our Enclave and the dealer remarked how clean it was.  It can be done.  I was a little concerned about the car seat dents in the leather but they came out after a day or two without the seats in.

I called the dealership back today. They had run my credit and it didn't look like I was in the top tier of credit and that would increase my monthly payments to $515 compared to 414.77 that you had mentioned with Doc and acquisition fees rolled in. Can increase in MF increase lease cost by a 100 dollars a month? Seems like a lot.

If you don't qualify for top tier, the money factor goes from .00050 to .00080 - .00370 (depending on how low).
.00080 would only add about $25/mo, but .00370 would add $200+.

It's possible they are marking up the rate, as well, if you don't qualify for top tier, but we wouldn't be able to ascertain that.

    Hi Michael,
Again, new at leasing - in NY. Lots of questions...
    So, I should
    1. Negotiate the Gross Cap Cost with the dealer as if I am buying the car?
    2. Get the $3000 lease incentive?
    3. Take all of the fees ($595 bank fee, $75 NYS doc fee, are there other fees?) AND the upfront NYS tax on the total payments AND apply them to the Adjusted Cap Cost - meaning I pay them at closing? (and no tax is added to the monthly payment figure?)
    4. And, of course, also pay the DMV title and registration at closing.
    Am I naively missing anything?
    Thanks!

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Add those costs to the value of (2) - do not pay them at signing
    4. Yes, pay registration / DMV costs, along with first payment, when you sign the paperwork

Thank you friends for the responses. 7500 miles per year would work for us. Approximately, how much per month could we get the MDX with tech package for? I live in Houston, TX.

You'd have to supply us with the MSRP and adjusted cap cost, with taxes and fees added in, before we can calculate a payment.

    Hello All,
Thank you for the great help you have provided in the last 5 years. I really appreciate it.
That being said, I have few questions I would like to ask.

    1) Do you have any information on the Acura pull back or pull ahead program which is basically when they want to there leased car vehicle back earlier than the contract end date, (varies between 3 to 6 months) sometimes. If you have that information, can you tell me what is the current offer?

    2) The lease incentive of $3250 which is offered, is it something already accounted for in the dealer discount being offered on price of vehicle ?

    3) I need numbers and incentives for MDX Tech FWD 12k miles. and MDC advance FWD 12k miles and MDX Sport Hybrid FWD 12k miles.

    4) I have a current TLX lease with 7 payments of $524.00 left. Can the dealer use the $3668 for those payments to offset the $3250 incentive ? Right now the dealer is saying , pull ahead program is only for 3 months, so I will basically have to trade in the vehicle. Trading in the price will not be as good even though I'm under mileage.

    1. No information on any defined Acura "pull ahead" program
    2. Any offer from the dealer is likely to include those incentives; use the knowledge of the incentives to negotiate your best price
    3. Tech/Adv FWD - .00050 and 55%; Hybrid - .00170 and 55%
    4. Trying to end a lease early is usually an expensive proposition; those existing payments have to go somewhere. Generally, the trade value is far less than the payoff - do you know what those numbers are, so you know how deep the hole is? Can you hold out until the current lease is up?

Oh, I also wanted to know if I get accessory wheels, do they do a residual on those or do I pay full price for them? I hope not the latter that would suck.

What legitimate lease fees are there in NYS besides the $75 NYS doc fee, $595. acquisition fee and the $____ disposition fee?

If the accessories are not on the factory sticker, you pay full price for them over the lease term.

Oh, I also wanted to know if I get accessory wheels, do they do a residual on those or do I pay full price for them? I hope not the latter that would suck.

Probably the latter. Those are things to be avoided on a lease.

What legitimate lease fees are there in NYS besides the $75 NYS doc fee, $595. acquisition fee and the $____ disposition fee?

Disposition fee isn't collected until lease end, so you won't pay that at lease signing.
You'll also have local DMV fees and taxes.

What lease term and how many miles per year?

The negative equity is going to add a lot to the payment. Any way you can hold off on this and try to lower than number?

How much is due at signing? $0 down is not the same as $0 due at signing.

    What MSRP?

What lease term and how many miles per year?

We don't suggest using trade equity or up front cash as cap reduction - that money will be lost if the car is stolen or totaled.

    What state and tax rate?

Zero due at signing. Sign and drive. I have leased a few cars with this dealer and zero means zero. I sign the contract and drive the car and make 35 payments after that (they pay the first months payment).

    15k miles / 36 months
    .00050 and 53%; $3250 lease incentives

I agree with the math on that quote.

The negative equity is adding $165/mo to the payment.

Msrp 51,435 36 months and 10k a year. I wanted to pay a bit more upfront to be in a payment I was comfortable with but I understand your logic. Thank you for the feedback.

Hey guys, thanks again for your help.
Excellent, good, fair, or poor deal outlined below?

Negotiated 2017 MDX Base AWD MSRP of $47025. down to $41263. online, including destination and splash guards. This is my third car from this dealer, first ever lease for me.
Arrived at dealer and attempted to get $3K lease incentive. Was told Acura MDX Base incentive was $2K for cash/finance and an additional $1K if leasing, for a total of $3K. Said $2K was already in negotiated price. They gave me an additional $1K off for leasing, so agreed price was $40263.

As you've recommended, put $595 acquisition fee and $1215.95 upfront New York State tax in Adjusted Capital Cost. Also, as you've recommended, did not want down payment. So...

    Agreed price: $40263.00
    Gross Cap Cost: $42073.95
Adjust Cap Cost: $42073.95 (agreed price, plus acquisition fee and upfront NYS tax)
    Residual value: $26804.25
    Depreciation: $15269.70
    Finance charge: $1239.90
    Total base Monthly: $16509.60

    Monthly Payment: $458.60
    Due at signing:
    $458.60 1st month payment
    $75.00 NYS doc. fee
    $10.00 NYS inspection
    ____ NYS title/plates
    ____ NYS registration
