I know my friend's wife had one once upon a time. IIRC, it had the 2.5 v6 from the mazda 626.
Yep, it's a 1997 Ford Probe GT. It was based on the same platform as the Mazda 626 and IIRC made in the same plant (Flat Rock MI IIRC). I drove one courtesy of a dealer-client who would occasionally let me drive cars I thought interesting.
There's a couple of odd things about that particular car. First it is RHD. MG-TCs were all RHD but most TDs sold in the USA were LHD and wore those "shopping cart" disc wheels. Some TDs sold in the Euro markets had the more graceful wire wheels (smaller diameterss than on the earlier TCs).
(I think those are German plates).
Any idea, Shifty on why US-spec TDs didn't have a wire option?
Also seen in that photo are a '57 Caddy and the rear of a '62 Chevrolet wagon which would be a decade younger than an MG-TD.

No TDs were produced with wire wheels from the factory. After the TF came out, the factory produced a retro-fit kit for the TD.
The TD was basically a Y chassis with a TC body plopped on it--it rode better and handled better, but it sure didn't look better.
Car body nomenclature has always been a confusing mass of vagaries. Now we have 4-door "coupes", we have roadsters and cabriolets and spiders. We've had Broughams that were sedans, and 2-door club sedans and 4-door town sedans. (So you can go to the club in a 2-door, but not into town?).
But I'm diggin' in here and am going to die on this hill---anything with a fixed roof is a sedan. Call it a hardtop, call it a coupe, call it a town car, a limousine---whatever.

Been nice knowing you. (holds hat over heart, bows head)
They made few of these, the vehicle of choice for despots/tin pot dictators (today, heads of state of several leading nations would be at home in one). No visible landau bars, although functional MB cabrios of the earlier 50s could have them. I think I have seen one or two in German museums.
Looks like Mustang symbols on the horn and door panels. But the shape of the dash, the short hood, the seat side bolsters, and that steering wheel are bugging me when added up. I can't figure out a year where that all makes sense.
is it just because it is a dark interior and I'm viewing on my phone that I can't seem to find a shifter in that pic??

Those aren't Mustang emblems and there is no floor mounted shifter. IIRC the A/T shift lever was a tab located under the dash so not visible in photos.
My dad bought a Corvair Monza for my mom after he got a Corvair Van for his business. That steering wheel partially obscures the auto trans lever on the dash to the left side of the radio.
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.

Built them in Flat Rock, along side the 626, I think.
A pretty nice vehicle for the '90s

The model name is right on the plate, It's a Plymouth Scamp, the Dodge version was the Rampage. Both were based on the Omni/Horizon.

The oddball "Ute" was based on the Horizon, in 1983.

I've driven the stretch limo and it was awesome--like driving a freight train--but I've never seen a Landaulet in real life.
I still like John Paul IIs G-Wagen.
