Yep, it's a '67, no idea why the hood is up. They're pretty rare in the USA.

To the left, a grey Austin A40 - the square rear plate and contrasting colour roof indicates a mk1, so 1958/60.
The black car to the right is an Austin A60 Cambridge - 1961 -70, but they tended to have a contrasting colour stripe until about 65, so I would guess on balance probably later.
The maroon car is an AC428, circa 1968/9.
The Escort Mexico was aimed at the boy-racer market - when I was first driving it was the car everybody wanted, but the main problem was insurance - it was difficult for anyone under 21 to get insurance companies to cover them on the hotter Escorts (Ford thought of that and there were various Escort Sports, and GTs which had more show than go, and were in lower insurance groups, thereby attracting lower premiums). When they were new there were so many people who bought the badges and stripes and stuck them on more basic Escorts that it could have been anything....
All the old NSU dealers went into the Audi dealer network, so they were already selling Audis with the small rear engined NSUs, and the Ro80, ofcourse, which was really expensive here, but quite popular until the reliability issue caught up with it and unfairly killed it...
I was so glad to see someone with some Knowledge of what I was seeking. Your message was very interesting. I am from the Lower Usa, and have aquired a 1961 Austin Princess, am in the process of restoration with 60 % of it done, it came that way, However I am dying to see photos of actual production, like from the factory that assembeld these cars, I cant seem to find anything and havent a clue where to look or what words to type in search. Do you happen to have any more Info or links, Help or know of any sites here or across the pond with documentation of old Photos, These cars are amazingly Put together and I dont think people realzise to what extent. It has Captured my imagination beyond.. It was refreshing to read your page. Thank you Purdy
I'll really be impressed if you or anyone else knows what this oddball is>

Got your message - I'd be happy to help if I can but I'm not entirely sure what your car is as the Princess marketed in UK in 1961 wasn't by then known as an Austin, but I wonder whether the fact that in America the marque Vanden Plas wasn't known means that the same car was sold there as an upmarket Austin.
Is your car the 3-litre saloon, based on the same Farina-style body as the Austin Westminster / Wolseley 6/110, or do you have a larger car, with a sort of formal limo body that we would have known as the Austin Princess 4litre, until 1959, but which was a Vanden Plas after that date ?
There is a Vanden Plas Owners Club in Britain, the link is
www.vpoc.info/
Also there is a club which caters for all the Farina bodied saloons made by BMC - the Austin Cambridge/Westminster car club
www.acwcc.org/
One of those two might have what you are looking for, they both deal with the 3 litre, but the big limo type Princess would be more a V-P club car...
When/where did you get your car ?- it must be very unusual in USA - can you post a picture of it ? (having said that I still don't know how to put pictures on this site, as I am a complete computer ignoramus)

Originally Citroen had no interest in a cabrio and refused to sell bare chassis to Chapron so Chapron was forced to buy complete DS19s until he was able to make an arrangement with Citroen in 1960. That must have been expensive :surprise:.
