In July 2004 Car and Driver had an article about the Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo. They starter the article with "We get the Taurus. Mr. and Mrs. Australia get a kick-butt cop cruiser. They ended the article with "Unless you plan a move to Australia, better just turn the page and forget everything you've seen here.

The Falcon also made Motor Trend's top 10 cars we want brought to the states, along with the HSV Monaro.

I'll be quite a few Americans felt really jealous after reading that article, lol.

Definitely looks British, and I can see it is RHD so I'll say Jaguar something from the 70s, I think.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    Bob I'm surprised you couldn't put a number on it. It's a DB-4 Cabriolet ca. early '60s.

is a 1967 GMC Handi-Van. Ugly as sin, but not as homely as the first generation:

  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
    that's a little newer.

Bumpy, your van was hard. I knew it was a GMC but I don't think I've ever heard or seen it.

Sorry for the large picture, but at least it makes things clear

    It's a Chevy! My guess is it's Daewoo-based.

I thought it was the 250GTO.

    What about #2156? Any guesses?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,481
The GTO was a few years earlier...and much more "raw"

2156 is something Indian I am sure
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I noticed the side vent - they still look the same today. Pretty cool to see continuity like that.

    Ferrari 275GTB c. 67

Yep, the flat hood denotes the early SOHC version of the 275GTB, sometimes known as the 275GTB/2 to differentiate it from the later 4 cam (DOHC) version, the 275GTB/4.

The car does resemble a GTO, even more so from the rear. That's accidental, according to Ferrari lore it was styled to upstage the E-type Jaguar which blew the socks off Ferrari's French distributor when he saw it at the Paris Auto Show ca. 1960.
Said distributor is said to have contacted the Commendatore and convinced him that it was imperative to counter the slinky new Jag.

I was too lazy and/or tired to research it. :) I knew it was an Aston Martin Bond-mobile of some sort, a rather early DB model.

The SUV in 2156 has the bowtie badge on it, but it is sold in India. Like andys120 said, it's probably based on a Daewoo.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    they're period-correct aftermarket Cragars, what's the car?

    That's a 1965 Plymouth Satellite.

Any guesses for the red Chevy in #2156? Come on.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
No clue on the little Chevy/Daewoo/Suzuki thing but you're right about the Plymouth.

Alright, I'll give up the red SUV in post #2156.

It's a Chevrolet Tavera, also known as an Isuzu Panther. Andys120, I too thought it was based off a Suzuki or Daewoo they way the Optra/Aveo are.

Hmm...if Isuzu could make the Panther LHD and throw in a better engine it might be a good vehicle to bring to N. America...rather than the i-series which is nothing but a rebadged Colorado/Canyon.

The engine in the Tavera/Panther is a 2.5 liter diesel engine with only 79 horsepower. Pathetic.

Come on guys, this is the fourth vehicle that had you completely stumped.

Most of us don't follow/care for the Indian car market. Probably kind of hell for enthusiasts.

    2169 = MGA coupe
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
    Looks Italian with 1950's styling.

Fintail, whether you follow/care for the Indian/Asian market, fact is it is one of the world's fastest growing car markets, faster than the US or Canada. The point of this thread, as you can see is to post photos of mystery cars, cars we have forgotten or don't know. You guys were stumped on four, not my fault. I find it a better change rather than always guessing some forgotten exotic from the 60s. Almost all the cars posted here are old, so why not post something new.

Anyway, did we figure the mystery coupe in #2079?
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
this one's for you. It's not Indian, so hopefully you won't complain about it. It's a relatively recent domestic.

    circa...hmmm...1986?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yep it's a '58 MGA FHC, I was hoping someone would mistake it for a Jag ;)

I don't think anyone, including Shifty's Oracles @ Fantasy Junction, knows what #2079 was so I'm sticking to my theory that it's a one-off styling concept.

Here's an interesting obscurity, I'll give youse a hint on it--it's newer than it looks.=>

first guess was a Pantera, but the doors don't look right (even though the air cleaner sorta does).

Nope. '86 was the first year for the flush-mounts on the 240. The first year the 740 got the flush mounted headlights was '90, though. My first Volvo was an '89 740, and I specifically looked for an '89 because the later (plastic lensed) headlights did not age well at all.

Ok you win, I just dug up my Road & Track buyers guides from 20 years ago and you are right. I guess I need to brush up on my Volvo history :confuse:
