Thank you Mr. Michaell. I got the below quote from dealer. This is my first lease, can you please confirm, if this a good one? I feel this very high and equivalent to finance numbers.

Premium Plus Quattro: Zero Down, Zero amount at Signing

    MSRP 53235
    Discount 3724
    S_____ Price 49511
    Phantom Footprint 99
    PermaPlate Protection 995
    Total Purchase 50605
    Doc Fee 589
    Tax 3622
    Title Fee 90
    Business Tax 153
    Net Price 54 816
    Balance 55059

    Zero Down Payment : 36 months : 10,000 Mile : 839 to 854 $ per month
I was told that Monet Factor is : .0.00209
    And Residual is : 59%
    Kindly Suggest.
    Lots wrong with that quote:

    1. MF is marked up from .00169
    2. TN taxes the monthly payment, so you can ignore the tax amount - that is for a purchase
    3. The phantom footprint and permaplate are junk fees, and are adding $30/mo to the payment.

The one positive aspect of the quote is the 7% off sticker price.

Politely tell the dealer you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF; they know what the base rate is.

Negotiate as much as you can off the sticker to mitigate the junk fees.

Also, if you have another dealer close by, reach out to them; the competition between them for your business will get you the best price.
Thank you Sir, will speak to the dealer and see what happens.
I tried to speak to the dealer and was told that TAX of 3622 $ on vehicle is necessary and money factor of 0.00209. I am trying to negotiate and will keep you posted.
    Have you contacted another dealer?
Hi Sir , as a follow-up , Few things here please

    1. There is only one Dealer in my city for Audi:

And this is the Lease info from the Dealer for Prestige

and this is for Premium Plus :

    2. I tried to negotiate the MF , but here is the response from them : "you are absolutely correct that the wholesale rate is 0.00169. We are given the option from Audi to mark it up to 0.00294. We are only marking up the Money Factor by what is effectively 1 percentage point, which equals the 0.00209 that you were shown. Wholesale interest is 4.056%. Our retail rate is 5.016%. We feel that less than 1% markup is fair to our customers."

    3. I tried to (phone) contact another dealer , 3 Hrs drive away from my city . I was informed that , it will a monthly payment of 900 $ for zero down , inclusive of taxes for Prestige , where MSRP was $56,140. I am yet to receive the break down . I think I was told residual was 58% and MF was 0.00200 , I am yet to receive the email with break down from them tomorrow .

Kindly suggest . Thank you very much.
    1. Lack of competition does hurt you - good that you're looking at other dealers, anyway.
    2. So, they're only screwing you a little bit, not as much as they could. Nice of them to admit that. Lots of folks get the buy rate when leasing from Audi.
    3. While I agree with the math on the worksheet, there is more room to negotiate on the price. Generally, 6% off sticker is a good discount, but if they are marking up the MF, then I would target an even bigger discount to offset that.
    4. Sounds like the second dealer is already offering you a better deal on the Prestige. Higher MSRP, but a lower payment.
    5. The Premium Plus is the better buy, given the higher residual.
    1. Lack of competition does hurt you - good that you're looking at other dealers, anyway.
[Venki] : True Sir , I am trying.

    2. So, they're only screwing you a little bit, not as much as they could. Nice of them to admit that. Lots of folks get the buy rate when leasing from Audi.

[Venki]: This is what is disturbing me from signing the dotted line. On a monthly basis if I am paying amount too close to a buying a car on loan , it just doesn't make any sense for me to be leasing it at all. But being my first luxury car , i wanted to test the waters by leasing it. I am contemplating between GLC and Audi. I liked the steering feel / driving feel of Audi . I liked the ride quality of GLC very much but I didn't like the GLC Steering feedback at all, it felt dead . Also the old school mode of changing gears using a stalk under the steering is a turn-off. I am torn between these 2 , but will have to a make a decision in next 2 days and move on. Don't want to spend much time pondering over this, will have to close this quickly.

Any expert advice of wisdom would be highly appreciated.

    3. While I agree with the math on the worksheet, there is more room to negotiate on the price. Generally, 6% off sticker is a good discount, but if they are marking up the MF, then I would target an even bigger discount to offset that.

[venki] : Definitely I will negotiate for better price. yesterday when was given this quote , I was told that Premium Plus will be 6 to 7 % off but for Prestige , it will be 5 %. Doesn't matter , i will still negotiate.

    4. Sounds like the second dealer is already offering you a better deal on the Prestige. Higher MSRP, but a lower payment.

[venki] : I am working with the second dealer to get the details today on a email as I cant drive 3 hrs only the quote. So waiting on them .

    5. The Premium Plus is the better buy, given the higher residual.
[venki] : Premium Plus is enough. But hardly 50 $ difference in payment between Premium Plus and Prestige : And I am getting the fully features loaded for security and driver assistance , is the reason I am brought in Prestige in the picture.

    Thank you for the help.
    Hi Sir,

So I worked with the other dealer and I got the below details on Quote :
    Q5 Prestige
    MSRP : 56210 $ - Discount (7%) 3934 = 52276 $
    36 Months - 12 K Miles
Down 2000 $ (First Month payment and so on )
After my credit score validation , approx score is 742 , which once they confirm in proof , they told me that they will lower my monthly payment to 831 $.

Please suggest if this a good deal . Thank you.

7% is a good discount, but as I noted above, the MF is marked up for profit in the financing.

Just signed my lease contract (premium 36/10, Audi Care, NJ), but could not get the numbers (especially rent charge)

    msrp 45350.00
gross capitalized cost 41234.02 --- [incl Audi Care, lease acquisition fee]
    capitalized cost deduction 1095.00 --- [trade 3000 - doc fee 449 - licence fee 304.5 - tax 1151.1]
    adjusted cap cost 40138.62
    residual 27210.00
    depreciation 12928.62
rent charge 5788.86 --- [I cannot get this number with the 0.00169 MF promised by the sales manager]
    total base payment 18717.48
    lease payment 519.93

I ended with a $519.93 monthly payment, with $3000 trade and first month payment 519.93 at time of sign.

Could you please check whether the numbers make sense (rent charge and monthly payment), assuming that they're using the base MF? Thank you!

    If that's a 36 month lease, then the money factor isn't .00169.

Is there any chance to argue and adjust as I've already signed yesterday? Since I emphasized many times with my sales manager that I want 0.00169?

The sales manager showed me on his computer that he's giving me 0.00169 as MF and a number of $48x.xx per month when we had the deal. Then when I went to the finance manager, he added $34.95 + tax saying that it's for the Audi Care. Now I suspect the originally $48x.xx provided by the sales manager alreally included Audi Care and the finance manager did something on the MF to increase the payment.

Could you please provide the money factor, residual, and any incentives in the Audi Q5 premium plus in Los Angeles, CA with a 36 month 12,000 and a 10,000 mile lease? Weighing if I really need the 12,000 mile based in a previous lease.

    Seems doubtful.

    Out of your $4000
    $1600 sales tax
    $895 acquisition fee
    $300 DMV/doc fees
    $450/mo. 1st payment
That only leaves $750 for CAP reduction.

At .00169 MF and 59% residual, adjusted CAP cost of $39,200 to get $450/mo.
    So.. selling price of 39,950.
That's almost 13% off MSRP, when we mostly see 5%-6% off on Audis.

Both NJ and NY are in the Eastern region.

Audi does offer an MSD program, but we don't have the details.

The concept of "invoice" can mean whatever the dealer wants it to mean. How much of a discount off MSRP is it? We suggest you target 6%.

Thanks, Michaell - it's a Friends & Family certificate that says "The vehicle is to be sold at Dealer Invoice plus $300, subtracting all current retail and Dealer incentives." (I think an older version of the form said $500.) Unfortunately, I'm not actually a friend or family -- I got the certificate through FoundersCard.

I was hoping to just go into the dealership and use it without having to do further negotiation, but it sounds like that's not in the cards if "Dealer Invoice" doesn't really mean anything.

I'll bet that if you go to three different pricing websites, you'll find three different values for the invoice price.

If the price that certificate gives you is 6% off the MSRP, then you're fine.

Can you guys tell me how this looks?

    Q5 Prestige - MSRP $58,580.00
    Drive Assist
    Warm Weather
    Fine Gray Ash Gray
    Trailer Hitch
    Cold Weather
    Audi Guard
    Audi Beam
    Cargo cover

Looks to be about a 10.5% discount off MSRP

This includes my trade of a fully paid off 2011 Chevy Equinox with 150,000 miles which needs about $3000 of work if I were to keep it, which is why I am here to begin with. They originally offered $3,000 for it.

MF looks to be marked up.

And, we'd suggest you have the dealer cut you a check for the equity in your trade. That money would be lost if the car is stolen or totaled.

You live in Cook County, IL? You're paying a lot of tax - state and city. State taxes the total of the payments, while the City taxes the resultant monthly payment. Something like 17% total. Ouch.

I asked them about the Money Factor and I got a strange look but he went and asked the finance guy, and on the first go round it was 0.00191.

I didn't ask on this go around because they adjusted numbers to get the monthly lease payment where I wanted it.

Yeah, CROOK County, IL, you don't even want to see my property tax bill, it is ridiculous. They massaged the numbers to get my monthly payments to $699. What MF markup would be acceptable? I'm new to leasing. If she sees payments higher than $699 she may go nuts.

Also, exactly what do you mean in dummy terms about "cutting a check for the equity"?

I also have the WF (WIFE FACTOR) who I've already had a hard time explaining by leasing we can use that money we would have used as a down payment on a regular finance to pay off higher interest rate credit cards.

    Thanks again for your help!

The base MF is .00169 - simply tell the dealer you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF

If the dealer is willing to give you $4250 for the Equinox (BTW - wow!), use it to pay the first payment and any registration costs, and the dealer can give you a check for the rest.

Not a marriage counselor, nor a personal financial advisor, so can't help you on that account.

If you're looking for a lower payment, may I suggest something other than Audi? The lease programs for them are just not as good as other brands.

Audi does offer an MSD program, but we don't have the details.

The details are as follows. Audi allows up to 10 MSD's, but only 9 of them count to reduce MF by .00005. Basically, the first one doesn't count - so from 2 through 10 will take you (for example) from .00169 to .00124

Hi - I am looking at leasing (12k/36 mos) a 2018 Q5 Premium Plus in the state of NJ. MSRP is $47,855 and I have negotiated a selling price of $42,000 including the $1,000 loyalty incentive I qualify for given that I am a current Audi owner. Assuming that I am NOT making any down payments/capital cost reduction and assuming that I purchase Audi Care, what would my monthly lease payment be if I only capitalize the sales tax?

Also, do you think there is more room to negotiate anything beyond the 12.2% discount the selling price represents (incl. the loyalty incentive)?

    Thanks!
