Has anybody seen any Touring models that actually come with the i-Activesense package? You can build it that way on the Mazda website, but no one seems to have inventory.

I’ve been told in another forum I should do a factory order but I assume the lease promotions and negotiating leverage would go away in that scenario.

Bottom line: can you use lease cash, rate promotions, etc. — or even negotiate—  on a factory order?

Have you checked the Mazda inventory web site?

You can still qualify for the incentives and negotiate your best price, even on a factory order.

Thanks Michaell. The Mazda inventory website gets you the right trim level, but not the packages. Even if you start with the build tool and specify the right package, then look for inventory, it returns results with different package and options.

I guess I will let my local dealer do the searching — I’m sure their internal system is more granular — and barring that go for the factory order.

Quick question. I found THE car a couple hundred miles away. And I think lease cash in that zip is also much better. Any reason I can’t take advantage of that, or is the lease cash somehow tied to the buyer’s address?

If not, can you confirm the numbers (MF, residual, lease cash) for Touring AWD or FWD for 33/12 in 93405 (San Luis Obispo CA) ? Thanks

So, there are different incentive amounts for SoCal vs. NorCal - don't know where SLO fits on that map.

    33/12: .00001 MF and 59%/57% residual.

    Hello,

What is the residual and money factor for a 2017 CX-5 GT lease in IN? 36mo/12k miles and 36mo/15k miles.

Also, what incentives for leasing? Assuming additional $500 if current Mazda owner?

Hi. I visited a dealer today (in NY) and got the following numbers. Just wanted to see if it's a good deal.

CX-5 Grand Select AWD MSRP $31,135 Sale Price $29,613
    MF .00001
    Res 59% $18,370

33 months/12k $359 $0 down $1656 taxes, dmv, first payment (seriously considering rolling in taxes since mf is so low)

I have 6 months left on my current lease ($1554 in payments) and they said they would use some of the lease cash to pay my remaining payments.

    Thanks!

If I add the $595 acquisition fee, I get $359, as well.
There is $1800 lease cash. If you weren't turning your vehicle in early, you could use that to lower the CAP cost. My point is: You aren't getting out of those lease payments, you are just rolling that amount into the new lease.
Without those $1554 of lease payments, your monthly would be $312/mo.

Either way, I would roll taxes into the lease

Is the lease cash incentive to dealer or to customer? In CA if it's manufacturer to dealer, then it's untaxed, but to customer is taxed? Also a CA dealer said there's additional $330 Mazda incentive on all CX-5 on top of $1620/1800, is this correct? This is in 90067

I'm pretty sure that for Mazda, the lease cash is a consumer rebate, so taxable.
We hear about extra incentives, but we don't have any information on it.

    Las Vegas, NV
2017 Mazda CX 5 Touring (White, Automatic, FWD, Premium Package)
    MF .00001
    33/10k/58% RV
    MSRP $28,335
    Selling Price $26,599.05

Hello, thanks for the help regarding MF, RV, and incentives. I'm looking for feedback regarding the initial offer I received. I am sending a follow up email to get the specific amount of the adjusted capitalized cost (backing into it from what I have, I'm estimating it's $27,396).

I am requesting that all but the window tinting ($195) aftermarkets be removed, and asking that they remove the Cap Cost Reduction of $795 and instead reduce the selling price by that amount.

I'm waiting on clarification, but I think $635.01 are licensing/reg fees. If I roll these into the lease, and can get the above changes made, I'm estimating a payment of around $330. Is this correct? I'm waiting on confirmation of acquisition, doc, and registration amounts, but used the following assumptions in figuring out my counter offer.

    Counter offer:
    MSRP $28,335
    Selling Price $25,804.05
    Acquisition Fee $595
    Doc Fee $100
    Lic/Reg $635.01
    Add-ons $195
    Cap. Taxes ~$895
    Lease Cash/Rebates ($1790.00)
    Adj. Cap Cost $26,434.06
    Base Payment $303.39
Monthly Payment (after MF and taxes) $328.42

    Thanks for any help.

Don't add the registration costs to the lease - those are non-taxable gov't charges, and if you roll them into the payment, they get taxed.

Drive off should be registration costs and first payment only.

Cap taxes look high - the rebates are subject to tax, but I don't think anything else is, since you're adding them to the cap cost. If I use $26K (estimated) cap cost, I get $290/mo plus tax.

They aren't adding a CAP reduction.
The CAP reduction is what's left over from the rebates, after paying for the first payment and the upfront charges.
It isn't a charge, so nothing to remove.

How are capitalized taxes normally calculated? Is it just based on rebates, first payments, and cap cost reductions?

Trying to recreate SoCal's dealer quote using .00001 MF/ 57% RV on a Touring I come up with a higher payment than the dealer. What's going on here? This is for 33/10 lease. I get $292/mo; $950 drive off, but dealer is quoting below:

    MSRP 27,255.00
    Discount 1,564.00
    Rebate 1,950.00
    Adjusted Price 23,741.00
    Doc Fee 80.00
    Tax 135.83
    Non Tax Fees 900.75
    Balance 24,857.58
    $800 drive off
    $284/mo including tax
    Tax rate 9.25%

Are they using a different RV?

Using the MSRP and "Balance" prices provided, I get $309/mo with tax included.

Ask the dealer what cap cost they are using for their quote.

Just received the offer I've been waiting for on the Touring AWD with I-Activesense package in eternal blue mica, NorCal. They're honoring the money factor of .00001 and residual of 57% with zero drive-off.

    MSRP 28,780
Selling price 25,849 (a little over 10 pct off MSRP, includes incentives/lease cash
    Acq fee 595

    Capitalized costs detail
    - First payment 360
    - DMV 317
    - Tire tax 8.75
    - Cap reduction 466
    - Cap reduction tax 42
    Gross cap cost 27637.75

    Residual 57%
    MF 0.00001
    Sales tax 9%

With tax, dealer is coming up with $362/month, I am getting $360. So close enough for the moment, though I'll want to see his math.

    I guess just three questions:

    1. Does the discount - a little over 10 pct for a configuration that’s hard to find - seem fair? There is no separate rebate or lease cash being offered, he's just using it all to get to the 10 pct discount.

    2. Is zero drive off a good idea? If I pay the DMV fees upfront or add to the down payment, I could bring the payments from $360 down to under $300. That sounds good from a future cash flow perspective but what do you advise re how much to roll into the lease?

    3. Is the math right?

    Many thanks.

If the $279/mo includes CA sales tax, I'd say you did just fine.

Congrats, and enjoy the new Mazda!

    1. That's a pretty strong discount for the CX-5. Even though we're at the end of the model year, demand has been pretty high and the discounts small.
    2. We recommend just first payment and DMV costs to be paid at signing - roll everything else into the lease.
    3. Assuming a 33 month term, your numbers and prices give me a payment of $372/mo. Not sure what's different about yours or the dealers calculations that makes it $10-12/mo cheaper - that's $330-396 less on the cap cost.

Thanks so much. I think he was actually rolling the first payment into the adjusted cap -- literally zero down -- which at $360 would account for the difference?

Also, I've heard some people advise even the DMV should be rolled in since .00001 is essentially free money - on the theory that if the car was totaled tomorrow, you walk away from all costs instead of losing whatever you paid upfront. What do you think?

(BTW, I assume gap insurance included in Mazda leases...do you know?)

    Thanks

I’ve been having trouble posting this reply so apologies if it appears multiple times.

Re the difference we are getting, I’m guessing he put the first $360 payment into the cap cost which would almost exactly account for the difference with your numbers. Is that even possible? That’s true zero drive off. :-)

Also wanted to ask about (2) above. Some people have advised rolling DMV in because if for some reason the car was totaled tomorrow, you’re not out any down payments when insurance kicks in. Do you agree with that?

    Thanks again for your help.

If this is a true sign and drive, then that would account for the difference in the payment - it has to go somewhere.

We suggests paying the DMV costs up front, as they are non-taxable government fees - if you add them to the payment, they become taxable.

Thanks Michaell. Just read a few more Edmunds articles and did a bit of research. I have to say Edmunds is the best website and the info is invaluable! Wondering if I might be able to get the sale price down to $23,100? Does that seem far fetched? Thanks!
