No.. that's the main drawback of longer leases.
Plus, the chance that your driving needs might change, yet you'll be tied to that lease for that much longer.

That looks about right. MD taxes the full selling price, which hurts, but you can't do anything about that.

No, the lease bonus is a customer rebate, listed as a CAP cost reduction on the paperwork (and, it's technically, "Bonus Cash", good for finance or lease).

Residual is percentage of full MSRP. But, if it's a demo/loaner car with miles, then the residual will be reduced to account for the current mileage. We don't have the details on that, however.

Sometimes they inflate three money factor. I have seen most dealers don't want to tell you the money factor they are using. This quote though seems good based on what I have been getting here in NY/NJ. The best I got for a 49875 car with 12k miles per year is 4188 due at leasing and 464 a month, so very close to yours.

The number you need is the adjusted CAP cost.
$43,375 selling price
-$3000 rebate
Then, add $895 acquisition fee
+$550 DMV
+$80 doc fee
+$270 upfront sales tax on rebate
+$553 1st payment (since it's ZERO due at signing)

$42723 adjusted CAP (my estimate)

That gives me $488/mo.+tax.. or about $532/mo. (assuming 9% tax)
That's $20/mo off, but I'm estimating a lot.
Ask for the adjusted CAP cost and how it was calculated, and all should become clear.

I'm estimating that in VA the taxes are about $2k. I think this car has been in their inventory for over 180 days and qualifies for the new dealer incentive for May. Sorry I can't be more definitive in the details but does this look like a fair deal?

In other words, could one expect the dealer to still have the ability to discount in addition to those? I'm also looking at using the Audi Club discount but I think that also comes from Audi and doesn't take away from dealer profit.

The incentive money comes from the factory; you should always negotiate a discount off the MSRP, before factoring in the incentives.

Also, I've seen in prior posts where you give a 6% discount rule of thumb, but when I search KBB for my zip on a base model A4 ($36k MSRP) I see the fair market range between $31725 and $34k, with the ultimate fair purchase price around $32,900. Is that a reasonable estimate?

Finally, do you have a payment estimate for approx. $33k purchase price with zero down? I'm not seeing any great factory incentives on Audi's site so am assuming there are none here currently.

Hey guys,

I need some help to clear my personal confusion. I and my wife leased a car from a WA dealer last Saturday. It was our first time leasing a car and the time spent was too long (4pm - 10pm) so I missed a lot of details in the lease term. Here's what happened:

We went for a A4 prestige with MSRP of 53,110. Was to able to get it down to 45,789 (using the sale's quote email). We said we were going to trade in both vehicles of 26,000. Then the quote was about 799 per month for 3 years (the paper says 4.4% I do not think if we had continued it would be that number). So after 3 years, we will be paying roughly 799 * 36 + 26000 = 54,764.

Then someone showed up saying if you guys might be switching to SUV after 3 years, then probably you guys should do the lease. Then she provided us a quote. It says 3 year, 12,000 miles per year, and the monthly price (after taking trade in value of 15,300) is about 240. We were sitting there thinking and came to the conclusion that even if we finance and trade in the vehicle after 3 years, we would still be losing around 27,000 (as we would lost 3000 per vehicle based on the current trade in). So we went ahead and signed the lease. After adding some insurance, the monthly payment goes up to 270. We had dinner that day around 11 pm.

However, when I looked at the lease term on Sunday, I found several weird things. First of all, the residual value is only half of the MSRP. Secondly, we were charged about 3860 Rent Charge which is a huge percentage of the total amount of about 9000 dollars we are paying. I used the MF calculator online and got the MF for our case is 0.00184 (Adjusted Cap Cost 31,727, Residual value 26,555) . We went to the dealer and a finance manager showed us a internal file where it says for 2018 A4 prestige, the residual value for a 3 year 15,000 miles lease is 0.47. However, our sales guy was telling us on Saturday night he is leasing an A7 for about 900+ dollars per month. In our case, we are actually paying 695 per month for the car.

Thanks for reading through the long story, here are my questions:
1. Is the residual value and MF fair/correct?
2. What would be the trade in value after 3 years assuming a average condition?
3. Are we paying too much per month for the car (I heard that the fair leasing payment per month is 1% of the MSRP)?
4. Compared to the financing option, based on my current lease term, is leasing really saving us more (In other words, is our calculation/thing process correct) ?
