    Hey guys,

I need some help to clear my personal confusion. I and my wife leased a car from a WA dealer last Saturday. It was our first time leasing a car and the time spent was too long (4pm - 10pm) so I missed a lot of details in the lease term. Here's what happened:

We went for a A4 prestige with MSRP of 53,110. Was to able to get it down to 45,789 (using the sale's quote email). We said we were going to trade in both vehicles of 26,000. Then the quote was about 799 per month for 3 years (the paper says 4.4% I do not think if we had continued it would be that number). So after 3 years, we will be paying roughly 799 * 36 + 26000 = 54,764.

Then someone showed up saying if you guys might be switching to SUV after 3 years, then probably you guys should do the lease. Then she provided us a quote. It says 3 year, 12,000 miles per year, and the monthly price (after taking trade in value of 15,300) is about 240. We were sitting there thinking and came to the conclusion that even if we finance and trade in the vehicle after 3 years, we would still be losing around 27,000 (as we would lost 3000 per vehicle based on the current trade in). So we went ahead and signed the lease. After adding some insurance, the monthly payment goes up to 270. We had dinner that day around 11 pm.

However, when I looked at the lease term on Sunday, I found several weird things. First of all, the residual value is only half of the MSRP. Secondly, we were charged about 3860 Rent Charge which is a huge percentage of the total amount of about 9000 dollars we are paying. I used the MF calculator online and got the MF for our case is 0.00184 (Adjusted Cap Cost 31,727, Residual value 26,555) . We went to the dealer and a finance manager showed us a internal file where it says for 2018 A4 prestige, the residual value for a 3 year 15,000 miles lease is 0.47. However, our sales guy was telling us on Saturday night he is leasing an A7 for about 900+ dollars per month. In our case, we are actually paying 695 per month for the car.

Thanks for reading through the long story, here are my questions:
    1. Is the residual value and MF fair/correct?
    2. What would be the trade in value after 3 years assuming a average condition?
    3. Are we paying too much per month for the car (I heard that the fair leasing payment per month is 1% of the MSRP)?
    4. Compared to the financing option, based on my current lease term, is leasing really saving us more (In other words, is our calculation/thing process correct) ?

Thank you so much for the help!

    1. The MF is likely marked up for extra dealer profit; the residual value is fixed by the bank and cannot be altered by the dealer
    2. The trade in value is the same whether you buy or lease - the car is worth what the market says it's worth. The idea behind a lease is that the payment is fixed based on a perceived value (the residual %). That number may or may not correspond to the market. Most leases do not end with positive equity.
    3. Audi, in general, does not have a great lease program. Think of 1% as a guideline, rather than a rule. Some cars lease for more than that, others less.
    4. Leasing is an alternative to financing. The question I put to folks is this - how long do you plan to keep the car? If 3 years, then leasing may be the answer. If you keep your cars and run them into the ground, it's generally better to buy them up front.

We do both in my house - I lease my Jetta (low, fixed payment, and I get something new and shiny every 3 years), but we bought my wife's Outback (we are hoping to keep it for 10 years, they retain value like crazy here in CO, and, she really, really likes it).

Bottom line, think of this as a learning experience. $695 is a pretty high payment for an A4 - read back through this thread to see what others have paid - but you've gained valuable experience that you can use the next time.

Congrats, and enjoy your Audi. I've rented an A4 a couple of times, and they are really nice. I wouldn't mind picking up a CPO version at some point.

This forum is immensely helpful, thank you in advance for the assistance! Looking at a 2018 A4 ultra Premium FWD in Houston TX (77098). Can you share the MF and residual? Also, I've seen in prior posts where you give a 6% discount rule of thumb, but when I search KBB for my zip on a base model A4 ($36k MSRP) I see the fair market range between $31725 and $34k, with the ultimate fair purchase price around $32,900. Is that a reasonable estimate? Finally, do you have a payment estimate for approx. $33k purchase price with zero down? I'm not seeing any great factory incentives on Audi's site so am assuming there are none here currently. Thanks!
What lease term and how many miles per year. Can't help you with actual pricing, beyond our general observations of 6% off MSRP.
36 months/10k miles per year. Thanks!

About to pull the trigger, can I get a check on this deal please?

A4 Quattro Premium Plus, cold weather and Audi guard, 36/10, zip 45458

    $46075 MSRP
    $42200 Sale Price
    -$3000 lease cash and conquest
    +1264 sales tax (over term)
    +895 acquisition
    +250 doc
    $41609 cap cost
    $837 due at signing

    $24880 RV
MF .000838 (marked up a little)
    Payment = $520

I plan to do max security deposits to get it down to ~$485

I'll try to get them to come down on the money factor, but can live with it as is. I know A4s "don't lease well", but this is what she wants, and I'm pretty happy with these numbers.

MF only goes to 5 decimal places; seems odd that your dealer is quote a MF with 6.

That's actually not a bad payment for an A4, given how little is due at signing. It's the discount from sticker (pre incentive) that helps you there.

"Happy wife, happy life" - hey, I get it.

Hi everyone, first time on this forum.
I am looking at a 2018 Audi A4 Premium Plus quattro, $44800 MSRP (with added sport package and wood inlays).
I am going for 12k/36, and would like to get RV and MF for this trim in Maryland.

Also, I was wondering if around $8000 off would be a decent deal, and if "Non-tax fees" really amount to $1,200 for a lease.
    Thank you so much!

    Hi

First, thank you so much for all the insights provided on this forum.

Planning to lease an A4 Quattro Premium Plus with Sport package, looking for MF and RV in the San Francisco bay area, CA 95117

    36/10 and 36/7.5
    42/10 and 42/7.5

Also, what is max security depot, and deduction on MF?
Is it still the case that buying Audi Care increase RV by 1%

    Thank you so much!

I doubt you will be able to get $8k off on a brand new A4, even with all incentives. You can look up previous posts and see how much folks have paid for a similar trim with and without incentives.

$8K off sticker is pretty ambitious - we generally suggest you target 6% off MSRP, before applying the incentives.

There is an $895 acquisition fee and likely a dealer doc fee of a few hundred dollars.

Went to sign the deal today, and the internet sales manage did show me the sheet with those numbers.

Just to share some info about of my lease deal (Mythos Black on black):

    MSRP 49650 (P+/Sport/Navi/Wood inlay)
    36/7.5K
MF 0.00059 (did not buy down as it would only save ~$25/month)
Audi Care (to increase RV by 1%)
Zero down on signing except the first month payment (DMV fees $284+275, acquisition $895, AudiCare $869, Doc $80 were all rolled into gross capitalized cost)

    Lease payment: $500 before tax

For others in the Bay area, Audi Concord is advertising $5,500 off MSRP of $49,650 for a few cars, but I did not buy there. I picked a south bay dealer and could choose cars of my liking, black or white on black.
So, close to $5,500 off the MSRP, in addition to $2,000 lease cash, can be done in this area.

Thank you for the reply! So I guess the only "incorrect" thing happened during our leasing procedure is the more than doubled MF which result in more than 1800 dollars being charged? Also, the dealer did not increase the RV by 1% as we purchased Audi Care, this is right?

Hi, I want to lease a 2018 audi A4 premium (basic). The leasing company suggested the following pricing. I would like to know if it’s good and where I can ask them to go down. Thanks.
    43500 MSRP
    10,000 miles/y
    409 monthly payment
    3213 up front cost
    including:
    409 first month
    895 bank fee
    500 new plates
    1408 taxes.

Hey guys. I'm trying to get into an A4 before end of month...got some prelim numbers from dealer already (which, at 1st glance, look good), but want to compare to make sure they are what they seem to be. Can you hook me up with MF/Resid and any incentives for SE PA (not Philadelphia County, though) (coming off Infiniti lease) for A4/Quattro/Prem Plus 36/15. Thanks!

Thank you for the reply! So I guess the only "incorrect" thing happened during our leasing procedure is the more than doubled MF which result in more than 1800 dollars being charged? Also, the dealer did not increase the RV by 1% as we purchased Audi Care, this is right?
    MF was marked up, yes.

Dealer cannot adjust the residual. If you purchased AudiCare, then it should have been bumped by 1%. If the contract is wrong, the bank will send it back to the dealer to be updated.

Thanks!

Be persistent about the cap cost ... that will reveal anything hidden in the deal that is inflating the payment.

And, if the dealer continues to balk, then perhaps it's time to think about contacting another dealer.

Hi, I am marianav's friend and I want to add some details to this discussion.

The selling price was the same as MSRP, at the time of writing the post, no discount was given. Salesperson said marianav does not qualify for the conquest bonus which is fair, and offered $2000 lease cash.

$1408 is the upfront payment of all monthly payment taxes. Should this also be included in the monthly payments like the bank fee was recommended?

So do you think the MF of .00059 is what it should be? Also the bank fee and "new plates" fee seem to be marked up a lot, can you please tell what are the regular charges?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Can I get feedback on this deal: A4 premium plus including navigation package, old weather package, wood inlays plus optional color at MSRP $49100 total in NJ. Offering $499/month for no cash down, around $1000 trade-in, 36k/12k. I’m told discount is $4246, and rebate is $2k. Good or no good?

You're "told" - you haven't seen a deal sheet with the actual numbers on it?

On the surface, looks good, but without the details, it's hard to know for sure.

Base MF is .00059; dealer can mark it up for extra profit.

You want to negotiate 6% off the MSRP, before applying any incentives.

Yes, add the sales tax into the payment, as well. You won't get them back if the car is stolen or totaled.

@kyfdx Not sure.  This is my first lease.  They started off with the the $3785 and a lot higher $556/mo lease.  Then we talked it down, but they never shared the sell price and Adjust cap numbers.   I put $500 to hold the deal to sign tomorrow morning, but if it is a bad deal I’ll walk away from it and take the $500 hit since it is non-refundable.  If I can renegotiate the price, I might be able to save more than what this deal is, but I guess I have no real way of knowing until tomorrow morning.

Any recommendations of what the threshold for net CAP cost should be for it to make sense for me to take the deal or walk away?

Can you let me know the MF and Residual for 2018 A4 Premium, 36/15k, and what incentives they are running right now? I just got a call about turning mine in about 5 months early and that Audi is picking up 3 months of payments, and the dealer will pick up the rest to get rid of remaining A4 by end of month. Thanks.

I gather that the MF/Resid for 2018 A4 Premium Plus Quatro in NJ is .00059/54% for May (please correct me if wrong).

    Follow-up questions
    1) Is MF/Resid any different for Prestige trim (all else same)?
    2) What is the MF for multiple upfront payment discount?
    3) How does the lease bonus cash apply? Is it just a reduction in the selling price or are there other intricacies to it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks.

FWD: .00081 MF and 50% residual
AWD: .00059 MF and 51% residual

    $2000 lease bonus

Anything the dealer contributes, ultimately comes out of your pocket. No way around that.
