@mandeep76 Looks like $ZERO due at signing? If so, that's a big discount and a good deal for 36/12

@Michaell @kyfdx thanks for your input. Trying to lock the deal up tomorrow. Some questions...
On the lease worksheet I noticed the dealer wrote $40,888.04 as "vehicle cost" but I was able to take a pic of the Vehicle Invoice sheet sent from American Honda Motor Co. Says the dealer invoice was $39,773.87. ie $1,114.17 lower than what the dealer put on the lease worksheet. Do I go after this????

    RE other fees
Dealer is charging $316.50 for Motor Vehicle. But on the NJ DMV site it says the cost is only $84 for new title and reg (> 3,500 lbs). Link below

Doc Fees dealer wants $599. NJ has no cap on doc fees but the average from autocheatsheet.com says the state average (NJ) is $335. NOTE, NY doc fees are capped at $75. I can get to NY in 20 minutes

Is $595 acquisition negotiable? What are most people stepping into 2018 TLC leases paying for acquisition? My zip is 08873 NJ

@Michaell @kyfdx yes ZERO down. Also $298 aftermarket seems like bull. Was told they are for wheel locks. I dont see wheel locks on the sticker. See previous post

Dealer cost: Who cares? That doesn't change the agreed on price, does it? The selling price is $33,625. How would their "cost" affect that number?

NJ DMV: On a lease, NJ collects three years upfront, I think.

Dealer fees: As you note, unregulated. I always consider them a part of the selling price. If selling price + dealer fees = my target price, then I don't care how they break it down. So, if you go to NY, it's price + $75. If that price isn't better than NJ price + $599, then it doesn't matter (though, I agree that high dealer fees are stupid)

$298 aftermarket: If they added the $298 and the $599 after you had already negotiated a purchase price, then maybe you've got a beef. But, if this is just the offer, then don't worry about how they break it down.

@kyfdx thanks. As mentioned I am doing this for my 74 yr old father who is on a fixed income. Every little bit helps. If there is any room to negotiate these fees I would want to try and do that. Terms 36/12...
    DMV: $316.50
    Doc Fees: $599
    Aftermarkets: $298
    Acquisition: $595

Also curious what others have paid for these fees.

RE dealer cost. I know regardless of whether we go with the $40,888 on the lease worksheet or the $39,773 on the American Honda Vehicle Invoice sheet the dealer is "losing" money at a lease sale price of $33,625. The $40,888 just makes it sound like he is "losing" a grand more than he really is. Not sure if that sits well with me lol

Who cares if the dealer is making money, or not? If you're getting a price you're comfortable with, that's all that matters.

Trust me, the dealer is making money, somewhere, on this deal. They wouldn't have offered it if they weren't, despite what you've been told.

Fees - as noted, doc fee is pretty high, but my co-host explained the big picture. Acquisition fee is imposed by the bank, and is not negotiable. DMV costs are from the state.

Hi, how does this deal look? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

2018 Acura TLX 2.4 with Tech Package
    MSRP: $37,650
    Selling Price: $29,473 (incl rebates)
Tax: $1,768.38 (6% on the full sales price in MD - killer!)
Fees: $1,530 ($975 freight, $300 document, $255 tags and registration)
    Total cap cost: $32,771.38
    Months: 36
    Annual Mileage: 10,000
    MF: 0.00054
    Residual: 52%
Total Due At Signing: $3,500 (Tax, Fees, 1st month payment)
    Monthly Payment: $336 and change
    Zip Code: 20852 (Maryland)
Sales Tax Rate: 6% (on full sale price)

    A couple questions:

    • Should the dealer discount be broken out from the incentives or does that not matter?
    • Is it normal that they’re adding the fees and taxes to the cap cost then counting mypayment of the taxes and fees upfront as a cap cost reduction? (Maybe they’re just presenting it that way on the deal sheet to keep it clean)

$336 with $3,500 out of pocket feels a bit high. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Last thing first... Since you pay tax on the full price in MD, it doesn't matter how they arrange it, or what they count as CAP cost reduction. As long as the final number is correct.

Breaking out freight? That's not a fee.. That's part of the price. If that's accurate, then your actual cost is $30,448.

The one fee I don't see? $595 acquisition fee.

If I take your total cap, add the first payment, then deduct the $3500, I get $305/mo.
Even if I add in $595 for acquisition, I'm only at $322/mo.

Taxes are high in MD, no way around that.. But, this deal is a good $900-$1000 too high, IMO.

Same payment with $2500 upfront? I could live with that.

Sorry, I think I misstated the $975 as the freight when it's actually the acquisition fee. Also, the $3,500 includes first month's payment. Does that get you to $336/month?

The Acura acquisition fee is $595, and the dealer cannot mark it up. I'd confirm what that number represents with the dealer.

@zkramer I went through Norris Acura West, this is my second leased car through them and have been nothing but happy. From my experience I would definitely not recommend Criswell in Annapolis. But, looking at the deal that @lordvader got at Frankel back in 2016 it may be worth checking them out. Makes me feel a little worse about what I thought was a good deal that I got. But they also took my lease back early with 4 payments left, and I was able to roll 10k miles over.

Norris Acura West gave me ridiculous quote on wife's MDX as well. I got $530/month with ~$750 due on MSRP $52500 at Frankel.

Thanks! I got a lease offer from the dealer on a sticker price of $40,865 and a net cap cost of $32,377. For 4k down, excellent credit, and 12k/36m my lease payment would be $438/month including the acura care package (subtract $25 a month without it). According to my own calculations I come up with a payment of $380 a month. What do you all think?

If that's the actual NET CAP, then I get $349/mo.+tax, so pretty close to your calculation.
That's not a very good CAP (and evidently, isn't the actual adjusted CAP), considering the nearly $6K of incentives and the $4000 upfront.

A lot of work to do on this deal..

    Acura TLX Aspec FWD
    MSRP $42800
    Cap Cost $35800
    36/12
$1800 due at signing to cover first, tag, doc fees, acquisition fee
    $450 with 7% tax in

Do you see these numbers are fine? I do not think they do based on the high out of pocket start.

I get $396/mo.+tax, if that is the adjusted CAP cost.

    Which state?

Florida. I do not know the adjusted cap.. I assume its the 35800 as the 1800 at signing covers all.

Thanks! I got a lease offer from the dealer on a sticker price of $40,865 and a net cap cost of $32,377. So with about 6k in incentives and a roughly 41k sticker price and me putting 4K down the dealer should be giving me a Net cap cost of 31k? Seems they are 1,300 high right now

Why are you putting $4k "down?" If this is going towards a Capitalized Cost Reduction, you will lose this money if at any point during the lease, your car is stolen or totaled.

My trade in is worth 2k and then I was going to put down another 2k but that's a good point. This is my first lease..should I put no more than 3k down?

OK. Your trade in is worth $2K, then have the dealership write you a check for that and put it into your bank account and use it to make lease payments with. Keep the other $2K in your bank account. You DO NOT need Acura Care for another $25 per month (this will end up costing you an additional $900 over the life of the lease).

The only money you should be paying up front (or money due at signing) is 1st month's payment, DMV Fees, and the bank fee (acquisition fee). You should roll your taxes into the payment as well.

I get $406/mo plus tax. If the tax rate is 6% then I'm spot on at $430/mo

True sign and drive? Nothing out of pocket at signing? Then that's a good deal.

Yeh true sign and drive. You walk out thinking it's good but always second guess if you could have pinched out a little more. I think it was 8400 off stickered and rolled everything No first month. My sis was looking at a A Spec demo with 2200 miles they are trying to push. MSRP 45765 CAP gross at 38437, same terms as mine at 458. I don't think that is a solid considering it's a demo. Thoughts?

Yeah, there will be an adjustment to the residual to account for the miles, so you need to get a bigger discount to compensate.
