They told me NM lease tax is 5.125%. and the base payment would be $583.11, adding taxes ($29.88) = $612.99 after $1102 out of pocket which includes first month payment plus $454 documentation & registration fee.
However, they did not provide me a selling price or adjusted CAP Cost.

Ask for the adjusted CAP cost. Could be something hiding in that number the dealer doesn't want you to know about.

Thank you.
You need the selling price and the adjusted CAP cost. Back of the napkin calculation shows you are getting about $1900 off MSRP, before subtracting the rebate, but you need the actual numbers.
I read through the whole of the 9 pages here. What a useful thread!! @kyfdx and @Michaell thanks for all your input!!
I have a few questions:
1. At what frequency do the MF and RV figure change? 2. I see reply above showing the T6 Inscription is .00024 MF and 55%/53% residual for 36/39 @ 10k. Still valid? 3. Can you provide the same figures for T5 Inscription? 4. Does MF and RV really not change regardless of ANY options and package selections? 5. I am in Queens, NY. My sales tax is 8.875% but I'm not clear on what amount NY charges tax for leases. Can you let me know the formula they use / how the tax is calculated? 6. Is there any MF markup that's acceptable? I feel there isn't but just trying to get a second perspective.
NJ 6.875% 526 is without tax. 562 including taxes / month for 38 months. 2500 covers (acq fee: 995, plates/registration: ~400, first month payment: 562, doc fee: 400)
as i said earlier, total OUT of pocket for 39 months = 562*38 + 2500 = 23856
Looks solid. Congrats!
Minor correction, this is for a T6 AWD XC90 - just realized I put this in the wrong forum. will repost for others benefit in the XC90 lease pricing forum instead.

1) Monthly 2) Yes 3) .00044 MF and 56%/54% residual 4) Trim, term, mileage are the only variables 5) NY applies tax to the sum of the payments. This is the total payments, plus any CAP reductions/rebates. It then collects those amounts upfront. Of course, you can always roll this into your CAP cost. 6) It's not acceptable to me.

So two follow-on questions. 1. If one puts money down to reduce payments, is that taxed? 2. If the dealer reduces the cap cost by discounting the sale price, that reduces the tax amount, correct?

1. Yes, but we don't recommend a down payment on a lease - the idea is that a lease is pay as you go 2. Yes, you want to negotiate the best price possible, before incentives. This will lower your payment, which will lower your tax burden
Hi, can anyone help me out with this quote? It's for a dealer in CT but I live in NY (11767). These payments just aren't matching up to what I'm putting into a lease calculator online. The sales manager is telling me it's because there are rebates/incentives that are taxable and the online calculator doesn't take that into effect. I'm so lost...

The money factor is marked up from the base .00025. Acquisition fee is marked up from $695 to $995. I get the same payment
It's not surprising that an on-line calculator wouldn't match up. Besides tax, you have to be able to tell which amounts are paid upfront, and which are rolled into the CAP cost.
The two markups add about $35/mo. to the payment.
Changing to a 39/12 lease from 36/12 would drop the payment by another $35/mo. (same money factor, with 52% residual)

No discount, aside from the incentive.
A very general rule of thumb is that the lease payment should be right around 1% of MSRP. You've got a payment of 1.5% of MSRP, which is very high. Taxes in Texas hurt your payment, but you should be getting a discount from sticker to offset that.

I don't know if it is good deal. And also is there any room for discount for MSRP?
$648/mo. for a $44K MSRP vehicle doesn't sound like a very good value

A very general rule of thumb is that the lease payment should be right around 1% of MSRP. You've got a payment of 1.5% of MSRP, which is very high. Taxes in Texas hurt your payment, but you should be getting a discount from sticker to offset that.

As I said, the 1% is a very general rule of thumb; it doesn't apply to every car or every lease deal. And, as noted, the more fees and taxes you roll into the payment, the higher that payment becomes.

No discount, aside from the incentive.

1% of MSRP would be around $400/month which I doubt is possible on a new vehicle with $0 down payment?

So it is worst quote because I am not getting any discount, otherwise the numbers add up for the monthly lease?
Yep.
