Purchasing out of state (zip - 23320) I will be doing the tax/title/registration in NYS. What kind of money factor/residual should be expecting and what else I might have room to negotiate? 750+ Credit

Her Experian score is a 699 and one VW dealer is telling her shes a Tier 3 credit. I have a hard time believing that since she's a Tier 1 at Toyota. Could you verify that? Hi, Michaell. So I see a Tiguan SE 4Motion in Springfield, Virginia with a much lower dealer price, $22,689. Could it then be reasonable to expect that cap cost and payment (or very close) that I asked you about a couple days ago? That car was in Jersey with a dealer price of $28,884. You told me to adjust my expectations of a $200 - $230 payment. And would this mean me driving to get the car or would VW work something out to get it to me? Thank you so much for all your help!

I wouldn't assume anything about an on-line price. It's likely not valid with a lease. And, no, a dealer in VA is not going to ship you a vehicle, without a hefty premium.

Selling price?
10% interest? Do you mean 10% sales tax rate?

You can structure the upfront money however you want. Dealers quote large amounts upfront, because it makes the payment seem smaller.

Hi, Michaell. I want to thank you for all the help you’re providing here. This is an invaluable service!  

You have helped me out a bit regarding a Tiguan SE 4Motion in 10701. I just moved from Colorado and was hoping for an approximate $200 payment. Living expenses are so much greater here, so I was shooting for the stars. You told me to adjust my expectations. 

Well, yesterday I worked with the general sales manager and he seemed to be operating transparently. I tried for a $25 cap cost on a 15k/36m lease, MSRP $30,755, invoice $29,547. His best offer is at $290 on 12k/36m lease, same vehicle. He printed out invoices for me, including one from another dealer. He drafted up a lease agreement for me to do my homework. I want to be very certain that everything is copacetic. Is everything as it should be or is he talking me for a ride? I’m not clear on where the cap cost is at this point. Unfortunately, I pretty much need to make a decision today. I am on a time crunch. Could you tell me if this looks right? Any tips? Anything more to negotiate?

I forgot to mention something. My initial offer was, $25,000 cap with nothing down for 15k/36m. My calculations had me at $289.82. His offer has me on a 12k/36m with taxes, fees and 1st month up front. Payment is at $290. Not sure about the cap cost.??

He also told me that DMV fees as part of the upfront would cover plates and registration for 2 years. Is this true? What is the language on the lease about total over lease term paid for this is $1,556.93 on the last pic? If I’m paying for registration for 2 years, what is that? On the invoice document, they have hand-written 3yr, 15K/yr, but the lease contract is actually for 3yr, 12K/yr.
Just wanted to make sure you are getting the mileage you need.
If you want 36/15, the payment will go up to about $308/mo.

$26,358 is the price of the vehicle.
Tax, acquisition and doc fees are added to get a Gross CAP of $28032
You are paying those items upfront, along with NY DMV fees and first payment (That's the $2336 due at signing).

The payment calculation is correct, with the base MF of .00100 and 57% residual for 36/12
It looks like a pretty good deal, to me.


My only caveat: It seems that rather than rolling tax into the Gross CAP, it should be broken out, and paid directly in section 6 (Amount due at lease signing), Line 9 (Sales/use tax). By adding it to the Gross CAP, and crediting your upfront payment of tax to CAP reduction, it appears you are paying tax on your tax.

It's a small difference... About $90 of upfront money, but I'd ask about it.
