just picked up a 2018 Sport tonight (base, no premium package). MSRP $24,160. Paid $19,939. Including the $2,500 rebate, and $250 HMF bonus cash. Financed with HMF and normal rates to get full cash amount (instead of lower cash and 0%).

I know we don't have a "prices paid" thread for the Elantra, but it's good to know what's possible.

Keep in mind that there are different incentives for lease vs. purchase.

I confirm the 54% and .00101 for 36/12. $2000 lease cash

With the prices provided, I get $129/mo plus tax.

However, there are other costs likely added in to your selling price - acquisition fee, etc.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost, and make sure you understand what was added to and subtracted from the selling price to get that number.

I just got quoted a cap cost of $20921 with $739 in fees with MSRP of $26345.  Payment came to $335.  $1000 down 15k.  I keep getting less on the calculator.  Something I'm missing?  Thanks

Thanks for the help. One dealership came back with 36 month/15k miles no money down (other than first month and DMV fees) for $262 per month for the SEAL and $299 for the Sport. Do those numbers seem way too high? I was hoping to get the sport for $225 per month

The latest I have is SEL with MSRP of $20085 and Selling price of $14530. The lease they  quoted is 36 mo/15k miles for $259 per month with "true sign and drive" and .00139 money factor

The Sport trim are the same terms but $359 a month. Are these good deals?

For the SEL, I get $169/mo plus tax. Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost, and how they got to that number from the selling price.

I went for $215-220 but they said they had to stay closer to $259 and let me walk out without any better counter offer. Is it just too early in the month or could it be that because I got hosed on my previous lease (2014 Elantra $268 per month 42 months/18k Miles per year) that they don't want to go much lower than my current payment?

What lease term and how many miles per year?

Yes, you can roll negative equity into a lease, but with that much, you're much better off riding out your current situation until that number shrinks or disappears.

$8K is over $200/mo, alone, on a car that you can lease for $200/mo - do you really want to pay $400-450/mo on an Elantra?

As I said before, I'd recommend you hold on to what you're driving now until the negative equity gets a lot smaller. What's motivating you to do this?

I appreciate your knowledge and suggestion. I am just checking to see if I can find a short-cut through the negative equity and free up funds to move my income differently to pay off other debts. By Nov 2020, I will have a balance of $4741. The loan will end by Nov 2021. I feel that I will need to complete this loan in full (currently in a base model 2015 chev Malibu). I am also considering selling the car to carmax and buying a beater car and borrowing the negative equity (i would owe 11k vs 21k).

Then i would just do the debt snowball to dig my way out (saving on interest on my other loans)
