Im in the process of leasing a 2018 Hyundai Elantra SEL in NJ 07430 and was given the following deal. Does it seem fair? Would the Elantra Value make more sense in terms of pricing? The MSRP listed is 20,115

standard 36/12

$1,000 down to cover taxes and fees, + 1st month
$200 /Month.

I am going back to the dealer on Tuesday but am first using this offer to shop around a little more. I usually get residual and MF to compare but it slipped my mind. Will go back on Tuesday to get more details.

that seems like a strong deal on an SEL. the value edition is definitely a better value based on sticker (if you can live without a few things, the biggest IIRC being a power drivers seat). But when leasing, that does not matter that much.

We only have residual values for 15K per year; you'll have to check with the dealer about how the extra miles would affect the residual.

Why not just buy, if you plan on putting 75K miles on it in 3 years?

Check with the dealer about how they handle the extra 30,000 miles.
If it reduces the residual by $0.10/mile, then that will add about $80-$85/mo to the payment.
But, they may have different parameters for high-mile leases.

These were the terms - the first offer was $284 and we talked it down to $248 as a start.

However, doing more research we found the TrueCar value of Elantra Value edition is ($18100 average price), I hope to negotiate down to $18500 from $21100. Assuming I succeed -

The Gross cap cost is - $18500 (negotiated price) + $650 (dealer fee) = $19150
The Adjusted cap cost - $19150 - $3900 (rebates) = $15250

The Residual value then = MSRP * Residual Percentage - $21100 * 47% = $9917
The Depreciated value then = Adjusted cap cost - Residual percentage = $15250 - $9917 = $5333

Base Lease Cost = Depreciated Value/Lease term = $5333/36 = $148.13
Rent charge = (Adjusted cap cost + Residual value) x MF - ($15250+$9917)*0.00117 = $29.44

Pre Tax Lease Payment = $148.13 + $29.44 = $177.58

Lease Payment with Tax = $177.58 * 1.07 (7% for Ohio) = $ Approx $190

Since this is my first time buying any car, I was being extra cautious. Please let me know if my calculations make sense and if I am aiming for the right price. Assuming these calculations are correct I suggested $200 to $210 with tax to be a good deal.

I wouldn't assume you can take an on-line price, then deduct the lease cash from it. That price may already include available incentives, or may be for purchase only.

You want to negotiate your best price, then subtract the lease cash.
