What does the $1496 represent? If I add that to the cap cost, and use the fixed residual amount, I get $651/mo assuming a 9% tax rate.

Confirm the CAP cost the dealer is using for that quote.

If I add the fees to the selling price, I get a payment of $513/mo plus tax

Could be one of two things:

1. The CAP cost used by the dealer is higher than $42,324
2. The MF is marked up from.00052

Ask the dealer for the numbers used in their payment calculations.

Then I asked him to include the $500 FEP incentive. He then came back with $380.17/mo payment?? The drive off now became $2183.99. Not much difference from the $2210.74 but the point is, I cannot figure how he arrived at the lower $380.17 per month ??

When I did my math, I went from $404.92 down to $389.62 (when I included a $500 incentive) and not his $380.17. I asked him to double check that math and he assured me his number is correct!?? So how can that be? Unless he either lowered the MF or it's not $500 off, it's actually $809 off. Putting in $809 in my spreadsheet gets me to $380.17/mo. Based on the numbers he's giving me, it doesn't seem like I'm getting taxed on the incentives. I remember BMW charges tax on dealer/mfg incentives? I guess Mercedes doesn't?

The state charges sales tax, not the manufacturer. Dealer discounts or incentives are not taxable. Consumer rebates are taxable.

Maybe, if you keep asking them, they can raise the payment back up to $389?

The state charges sales tax, not the manufacturer. Dealer discounts or incentives are not taxable. Consumer rebates are taxable.

Maybe, if you keep asking them, they can raise the payment back up to $389?

kyfdx - that's interesting to know. When my relatives bought the '18 BMW 3series, the dealer gave the $2000 "APR credit" which I assume came from the manufacturer. This "APR credit" was applied only after tax was collected on the cost of the car prior to the applying the credit. For example, if the car was $40K, the state collects the sales tax on $40K but the cap cost was actually $38k.

Thoughts? I don't like the MF being marked up but I feel like this is still beating other dealers. I prefer paying acq fee at signing to save a little bit on interest.

With 6% tax, I'm just a couple of dimes off that payment quote.

The MF bump is negated by the big discount from sticker, before the incentives.

The interest you save by paying the acquisition fee up front would go away if the indescribable awful happens to the car during the lease.

Thank you for your response. The sales tax rate here is 7.75%. Originally, I did not ask him about the FEP $500 incentive. He told me that it would be: $404.92/mo. with $2210.74 drive off (incl. first month payment and acq fee). This math checks out on my end in my spreadsheet.

Then I asked him to include the $500 FEP incentive. He then came back with $380.17/mo payment?? The drive off now became $2183.99. Not much difference from the $2210.74 but the point is, I cannot figure how he arrived at the lower $380.17 per month ??

That's correct... but, the $2000 was a consumer rebate, so it was taxed (by not reducing the car price, before calculating tax).

The $1250 incentive is from Mercedes to the dealer. So, it's not a rebate. It just results in a lower price to the consumer (ergo, not taxed)
