1. Residual is calculated against the MSRP - bottom line number of the factory window sticker, including all options and destination.
2. The residual value is the MSRP * residual percentage - in your example, $16,500 ($30,000 * .55)

That's not far off.. No rebates or other discounts? That's too much for a $38K MSRP Grand Cherokee.
