    What is the payment?
Are you applying the whole $8000 trade-in to the lease?

$780 per month. Not applying the $8K to the lease.

    What state and tax rate?

Is the $62,135 inclusive of the incentive monies?

CA, 7.75% sales tax. Incentive of 3K is additionally applied to $62135.

I get $781/mo with the revised numbers.

    Looks like a solid deal.

Great. Thank you for your inputs.

On another aspect, I am debating between 12K vs. 15K option. Clearly, if I were to drive 15K, its better to go with 15K option upfront instead of paying 25c per mile per the contract later on. My question is: Driving 15K a year, does this significantly increase the chances of higher maintenance charges? BMW maintenance expires after 36K, so wondering if a barrage of charges show up right after.

Get the mileage you need, up front. If you drive 15,000 miles a year, your mileage allotment on the lease won't matter with regards to needing maintenance.

Someone please help me understand this.

    MSRP 73020
    Gross Cap Cost 65678.4
    Sales Tax 353.26
    Cap Reduction 4041.6
    Net Cap Cost 61990.06

Trying to understand why cap reduction is 4041.6 (not 4000) and how the tax of 353.26 is calculated.

Tax is on the incentives and fees, if you're adding them to the cap cost.

You'll have to ask the dealer what the deal is with the cap reduction - might be left over amount from the total cash due.

Could the lease end charges be significantly higher for a 15K lease vs. a 12K lease?

Not if you take care of the car and stay under the allotted mileage.

hello, i am headed to my BMW dealer in NJ tomorrow. interested in leasing the X5 M Sport edition. wanted to be equipped with the latest info to properly negotiate the deal.

what discount off of MSRP should i be looking to get? (7%?)
what are the latest RV and MF?
what fees should I avoid and which are unavoidable?

also, wanted to confirm that i should avoid putting any money down to lower my payment (although I've been told that i don't lose that money should the car get totaled; rather, this is just a down-payment to lower the payment)

appreciate the help in advance. can report back once I price the deal.
    .00152 and 56% for 36/15
    $3000 lease credit
    7% off sticker, before incentives

Yes, any up front cash (cap reduction, in lease-speak) is at risk if the car is stolen or totaled.

    $925 acquisition fee is mandatory

    ========================================================================
    Quick Update:
so I got the following deal on x5 M sport, 35i, and I wanted to confirm that I've got a good deal. I find the documentation quite confusing, I must say - and that is why the blog like this is so invaluable.

While I cant find it on the papers I've got, I was told that I've got the car for under invoice price of about $1800.
    The MSRP is $73,910
    Gross capitalized cost is $71,757
    Adjusted capitalized cost is $70,149
    36/10K lease, 59% residual
MSD applied (transferred from my prior lease, plus added a bit more to top up for the new higher lease pmt), MF of .00117 as a result.
Nothing paid down on day one
I clearly see that I've got the $3k rebate
    Monthly lease payment of $870.40

Can someone please confirm the math as I cant figure out for the life of me why I was told I got the car ~$2K under invoice, and whether this seems like a good deal.

    Thanks in advance!

rogis: I am in the same boat, looking for roughly the same car, also in NJ. Please keep us in the loop.
Got in touch with a couple of dealerships, so far have not picked a particular car.
Am having trouble navigating inventory as search filters do not offer search by packages and I do need at least an M package and Drivers assistance and leather. Some dealers don't even advertise exact packages on their websites. How did you search? I believe edmunds has a search engine but not the entire dealers inventory is in it.

    Question to all:
Do I have more negotiating power in bargaining for a car that is on the lot of that particular dealer? If they offer to bring a car from another dealership - is there less room for me to negotiate? Also one dealer offered that I build a car and he will have it for me before the end of the month. In that case - do I have a lower negotiating power?

Need your advice - I have a Lexus ES350 that has 7 months left with $400/mo. I am thinking it makes sense to get an X5 now and return ES. The $3K will offset the remaining payments on the ES. If I understand correctly, there most likely won't be any deals such as $3k in July, correct?

    Thank you,
    Kevin

rogis: Did you try to negotiate the 7% off MSRP before incentives?

yes I did, or tried to do. the frustrating part is that I was told I am close to 10% off the MSRP including the 3k rebate. as I said, I should be almost 2k below the invoice. That said, I cant find this or verify this on the documentation I've received!!!! Note also that I have an MBA in finance and I cant figure this out. I know how the math works but I cant understand how the information is presented and what is included in what. crazy and very misleading.

Kevin, I just went to my dealer. and that was the end of my search, lol. this is my car number 7 (friends and family that I've referred to them), and I think they value that. that said, I cant get the numbers to work now that I am looking at it!!! LOL.

    Hi,

Just got a quote for a custom built x5 35i with M package, 10k/36mo, delivered before the end of the month:

MSRP: 70,485 (looks like $995 destination charge sits in this number as when I built it, it was exactly 995 less)
    Selling Price: 65,200
    Rebate: 3,000
    NJ tax 6.875%
    Bank fee: $925
Due at signing: $1,497 (everything rolled in the monthly payment)
    Monthly lease: $818.58

    Hoe does it look?

Can you give the #s for 2018 BMW X5 35i Xdrive for those terms? Thank you!

The monthly payment is correct, given the adjusted CAP cost listed.
I can't tell you what price you paid, without a breakdown of how they calculated the adjusted CAP cost. There should be an agreed purchase price somewhere on your lease document.

If you turn in a lease early, your early termination costs may exceed just the amount of the remaining payments. Make sure you know what you are getting into, before you start shopping for another car based on doing that.

Eating $2800 in payments to take advantage of a $3000 incentive doesn't seem like a good reason to jump now, in any case.

How can I calculate the tax on this. $1500 fleet and $4000 rebate. Rate is 7%.

How can I calculate the tax on this. $1500 fleet and $4000 rebate. Rate is 7%.
    $5500 X 7%

That still isn't adding up to 353.26. The 41.6 additional cap cost looks to be the difference between paying $1800 for walk away (first month payment, ACQ and DOC Fees). Tax still a mystery but using $380 is close enough. Its annoying that BMW terminated their MSD program.

    sale price 66405

    MF 152
Upfront charges 1860 ? (i'm assuming 925 acq cost taxes on rebate and dmv reg)

    thanks!

I think the 40e is the way to go for the X5. About 9% off MSRP + 6k rebate. Damn.

I get $824/mo with tax using those numbers.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost, and make sure you understand what was added to the selling price to get there.

Total initial payment is your $1497 plus the $3000 lease credit incentive.

Does it look like a good deal?

Is it possible to reverse engineer the adjusted cap from here? Isn’t it the only remaining variable in this equation?

when I negotiate, so I have a better chance to get a good deal on a car that the dealer has in stock rather than custom order?

    thank you,
    Kevin

The adjusted CAP cost is about the same as the selling price, as the other items just about add up to the $4497 initial payment.

Generally, any car you can drive away today is the dealer's preference, as that is a sure thing. That usually leads to the best price.

Just got back from the dealer. Basically, they agree to work with me on the following set of assumptions for the x5 with M package, whether one on a lot or a custom order:

    1. MSRP - 7%
    2. Rebate 3,000
    3. Fleet discount 1,000
    4. MF 152
    5. Residual 59% on 10k/36mo

Should I try to push for more? How much more can I realistically push for?

Can someone answer which fees are better to pay upfront at signing or add to the monthly payment?

    $925 ACQ fee
    $414 NJ Lux/Sup Tax. Is it for incentives/rebates ?
    ~$350 Reg fee
Documentary charges - $238 plus $161 for document transmittal.
Intro fill $98 (no idea what this fee for) Its on the lease order paperwork.

    hope did not miss anything

    Thank you

You can ask for a bigger discount from MSRP - the fact that the dealer agreed so quickly to 7% leads me to believe that perhaps more is available.

Acquisition fee - add to payment
Luxury tax - add to payment
Registration fee - pay up front
Doc charges - add to payment

I'm guessing the last item is nitro fill - this is a junk fee; try to get rid of it.

$869.36 - 1st months payment due at signing

Sale Price - $67,620.00 (includes 1K fleet discount)

    $8.95 - Titling Fee
    $6.00 - NJ Tire Tax
    $270.48 - NJ Luxury Tax

$395 doc fee is kind of a garbage fee, but typical for NJ dealers.

    I really appreciate your help.
So based on all this, would you say it is a good deal?
    Debating between the 2 options:
    1. Due on delivery: $2,965.30, $806.10 per month
    2. Due on delivery: $869.36, $869.36 per month
    Does this look right?
    Thank you,
    Kevin
