I'm looking at a 2018 X3 M40i to lease in California. I saw the suggestion to try for a 7% discount off MSRP for BMW in general. This is less than invoice and a lot more of a discount than what I see on Edmunds, TrueCar etc.. How realistic is this? Thanks!!!

I'd say it's almost exactly invoice. Not sure where you are getting your invoice numbers from.

Got invoice numbers from Edmunds. MSRP 66,220, Invoice 62,630, MSRP - 7%= 61,584. I'd love to get the car close to this price, just asking if that was realistic since Edmunds TMV, for example, is 64,455. Thanks in advance for your expertise and advice.

Hi All, joined as I need to advice on a lease deal please.

I’m considering exiting my current lease early (9 months to be exact) related to a deal that was proposed to me.  With the early exit, I’m getting bogged down in the details to evalute it.  I maxed out my security deposits on the current lease, but apparently they don’t do that any more on new leases.

    Below are the terms, thoughts?

    2018 X3 xDrive 30i

    -$54,545 MSRP of the car
    -$49,730 selling price
-.00152 money factor (BMW buy rate same as used with full MSDs)
    -59% residual
-All remaining payments made on current lease.
-Vehicle lease turn in condition and miles overages waved.
-$3500 of existing MSDs put towards deal
-Only $500 total due at signing to cover all taxes and fees and first month payment
    -$599 monthly payment

    Any guidance is awesome please.

TMV is an average cost. If you are researching, you definitely want to do better than that. We see people getting 7% off, every day.

That doesn't mean that any specific dealer will meet that price. You have to have leverage and competition.

$599 looks decent, until you realize that you are putting $4000 upfront on the car.
That makes your actual monthly cost a lot closer to $700/mo.

To fully evaluate the deal, we need to know adjusted CAP cost, state and tax rate.
We've heard that current MSD lessees can roll over their MSDs to the new lease, but at a lower rate than the old program (7 MSDs X .00005 = .00035 discount).
Of course, the dealer might not tell you that, because by using your MSDs as a downpayment, they can show you a lower monthly payment.

Thanks, I’ll get that.  So are zero down offers actually possible? Whenever I go in and by the time I’ve picked the car I like, that just doesn’t seem to be on the table any longer.

The zero down promo is what they led with and then we ended up at this deal.

Sans not knowing the CAP cost, would a dealer ever discount the car 4K to make the pay down go away?

We can't know how low the dealer might go, because we don't know where they are now.

There is no requirement to put money upfront on a lease. Once you have a deal negotiated (selling price, adjusted CAP cost, money factor), you can structure it any way you want, assuming you have decent credit. Of course, less money upfront usually means a higher payment. Dealers like to see you put a lot of money upfront, because it makes the actual cost seem less, because the monthly payment is smaller. It's not a coincidence that they came up with $599, instead of $603.

Four BMWs bought/leased from BMW dealers. I've never bought it.... or, had a potential claim, if I had bought it.

7% off sticker is good; marked up MF is bad.

What does the $1300 cover? Are you paying it up front in addition to the $2K, or as part of the $2K?

It's part of the $2k. Its the Permaplate, Ding protection and some GPS thing. I can get behind the permaplate. The rest... probably not.

How much marked up is the MF?

@natenash28 how do you negotiate the price down 12-15%? I’ve only received about 7-8% through email. Your advice is appreciated!

    2018 BMW X3 X30i
    MSRP: $53,845
    Discount: $3,719
    Rebate: $2,000
    Price: $48,126
Dealer added extras totaling $848. (Door guards, GPS something and tint. Was told these aren't negotiable)
    Doc Fee: $429
Taxes: 5% but capped at $500- South Carolina
    DMV fees: $37
    Acquisition fee: $925

Down payment: $1000- includes first months payment
    Residual of 59%
MF: .00202- was told this was a "standard rate" and would vary depending on my credit score. How do you negotiate this?

    36/10k: $695/month

Any guidance would be helpful. Thank you.

Those dealer added extras sound like a scam. Ask about a car without those any dealer-installed garbage.

Definitely say no to the clear coat paint jobs. Why the hell should you get that in a car that you're going to turn in after 3 years?

If those items are non-negotiable, along with the doc fee, then your actual discount is only $2442. That's the only way to look at it. If you think that's not enough, then ask for a lower price.
Also, the money factor is marked up from the .00152 base. The "credit dependent" thing is a half-truth. Yes, if you have poor credit, your rate will be higher, but they are setting you up for a money factor markup.

I do like the tax rate in SC, though.

    $70/mo. is a lot for a $54K MSRP.

Ok. Thank you. Does $640 sound better? By taking out the dealer added extras, and reducing the money factor thats around where I get the payment to be.

Should I look at other things or is that a better deal for a $54K vehicle?

That's a generic rule for a great lease payment. But, it's not a realistic goal for many makes/models. You can look for that for a long time, but there might only be 5% of makes/models that have a lease program that will support that sort of payment.

If $2500 is the total outlay (no cash out of pocket), then I get $588/mo. with those numbers.

Still doesn’t add up - includes DMV, doc fees etc... do you still get $588? I get right around $600

Dealer is refusing to discount the msrp to compensate for the dealer added accessories and also will not reduce the money factor from the marked up 0.00202 quoted. Time to move on to a new dealer. They are acting like these cars are not dime a dozen. Anyone getting good deals with money factors and mark downs?

@natenash28 how do you negotiate the price down 12-15%? I’ve only received about 7-8% through email. Your advice is appreciated!

What is the residual and MF for an X3 M40 at 10K/12K for 36 months in NY / NJ? Also, are there any incentives? Thanks!

    There isn't enough information.
Where is the $925 acquisition fee?
    First payment?
Those two items have to come out of the $2500, before you apply the remainder as a CAP cost reduction.
Nothing there shows the adjusted CAP cost.

    Hello,

I wanted to run some numbers to see what kind of monthly payment to expect here in Arizona. Wanting to lease a 2018 BMW X3 M40i for 36 months and 10k per year.

    The MSRP is $69,170.
    The residual is 59%.
My credit score is over 800 so I know I could qualify for the .000152 money factor.

If price is discounted to $64,389 (7% ) and the sales tax is 7.95%, dealer fee is $595, acquisition fee is $925 and registration (AZ crazy car reg) is about $1162.

What payment should I be looking to be around if zero down and then $2,000 down?

Right now there aren’t any lease incentives on the X3 M40i. Hopefully, there will be some in the next month or so. I’m coming from a Cadillac lease so no loyalty offers. I wish BMW had a conquest incentive available.

    Thank you!

Hi - would you please confirm all lease incentives for 2018 x3? I'm seeing $1500 cash, but would the x3 still qualify for $1000 fleet? anything else (military aside)? ~ thank you!

If I add those charges to the CAP cost, $893/mo.+tax

For a lease, I only see $1500 loyalty.

No info on fleet or military
