I saved the transcript from the online chat I had had 90 minutes prior, and I see that I did not misrepresent my interest. I spelled out the exact year and model and trim level I was seeking--more than once--and the chat representative assured me they had "several" on the lot. Thankfully, I called before leaving the house...

FYI, those "chat representatives" don't work for the dealer - they work for a marketing firm the dealer hires to address the on-line shoppers, like you. I tend to avoid them when the boxes pop up.

Great information, thank you. I had never before engaged in a "chat" on any auto website--I'd always just closed out of them the second they popped up. But I wasn't hearing back from he Sales Manager, so I thought maybe I could get accurate info that way... lol
