Start thinking about a good target price to buy your Accord for end of May. Then on May, 25th start your email blasts...... email your closest targeted NJ dealers letting each dealers Internet mgr. know...... X price gets my business today! then negotiate that target price, be firm on it till the very end of May and thru June if they wont deal yet . Since Honda dealers have plenty of stock I would check dealers websites, find your vehicle and make the same offer thru website.

@bluemkn57cars ...... Mr. Mike,
I was scrolling thru the Accord thread last night on the last 10 pages or so to catch up on posters who may need some buying help. You have been giving some great insightful buying advice & tips to folks in this Accord forum who are 1st time buyers or just need help . Excellent job my friend! Don't be a stranger venture into some other car buying forums, the advice you share is what makes @Edmunds one of the best buying sites around.
Good job............ Mike

Thanks for the kind words. I am just trying to pay it forward and help folks looking to buy, the same way you helped me 5 years ago. I appreciate all your advice to this day.
I wished I had the time to venture into more forums. I can blame it on my day job.
Are you still planning to trade in the Civic lease for an Accord lease?
$31,200 MSRP (added splash, trunk tray, wheel locks is all)
I was going to use the USAA buying service but not so hot right now. Ended up:
$26,650 out the door (tax paid later in OK) includes $500 military. 1.9% x 36
Represents a late night, highly competitive deal.
More later
MSRP with destination 36,690$
Negotiated price with destination 32,600$
Document service & license registration 396.94$
Taxes (thanks Illinois) 2711.85$
OTD: 36,119.94$
How did I do?
It seems like I got out of there about 1350$ under invoice, and no crazy high doc fees or other random dealer shenanigan add ons.
Also, I have to say. I'm coming out of a significantly higher price point Audi, and so far, the Honda has been an absolute pleasure to drive. The safety technology is brilliant, and the infotainment interface blows my Audi out of the water. I grew up in a Honda family, and I'm happy to be back in the fold!
Enjoy the car.
I've met 2 dealerships in south cal and it's hard to get a price from them....Is the fair price on KBB a good starting point for negotiation? Is it possible to get a price below invoice or it's just crazy thinking with Honda?
Thanks for your time
Read up on previous post on this forum with some tips on negotiating a fair price. You should be able to get pricing below invoice. What trim are you looking to purchase?
Here are some brief guidelines on the pricing/negotiation...
1. How soon do you really need or want to buy the car? If your purchasing window is flexible, pricing is bound to get better over time. It has to once the new Nissan Altima comes out, and as the 2019 model release gets closer.
2. The end of the month/quarter is the best time to buy as the sales folk try to meet their goals.
4. Determine first what the max price is that fits your budget, either from a pricing standpoint, or a monthly payment standpoint (if you are planning on financing). That should give you a good idea on when you are comfortable with pulling the trigger.
5. Email, and keep emailing lots of dealerships. Save yourself some time and do all the initial communications via email until they get at least close to the price you want to get.
6. Ask them what their lowest price is. You can find invoice pricing on all trims posted online so you will know where their prices are with respect to the invoice price. Tax rates, destination charges etc are all available online as well so you can get a good estimate on the OTD price. You will need to ask them what their doc fees are though as they can vary.
7. Never, ever give the dealership your upper limit in terms of price. You never know if can come out lower than that.
8. If they are not willing to give you a hard number for the price, start with a low ball offer. Between $1500-2000 below invoice is usually a pretty good deal.
9. Always leave yourself with upward wiggle room. i.e. your first offer should never be your max price, or even close to it.
10. Take the lowest offer you receive (once you are comfortable with the price) to other dealers to see if they are willing to beat that price. Tell them you will buy today (if you are ready) if they beat it.
11. ALWAYS be willing to walk away from the negotiation if you are not comfortable with pricing.
Hope this helps. All the best to you!
1. Do your research. Educate yourself. It takes time to look up information to help you get the best deal on a car. It could take weeks or months. Some folks on this forum, like @brian125, have been buying cars for years. He gives some great advice.
2. Pricing is based on a lot of factors such as supply and demand, Honda offers, location (part of the country you live and are buying), and timing. For example, Mike buys a new Accord for $20k from a Boston dealer at the end of the month. Do not expect to buy the same car at the same price from a dealer in California. You could pay more or less than Mike. As long as you have done your research and are happy with the price offered, then that is what should matter.
3. Know your credit score. I know this might be trivial or common knowledge, but knowing your credit score will ensure you do not get screwed by the finance guy. If you do not have the highest score, do not expect to get the best finance rates.
4. Do not mess up a great deal by buying an overpriced extended warranty on a Honda. These cars, if well maintained, can go more than 200k miles.
5. It has been said before, but I will say it again. Be prepared to walk out at anytime if something does not make sense to you and the dealer is not being transparent. It is your money, so before you sign the papers double check all the info. If you need to go home and think a deal over, do it.
I practice what I preach, and although I have only been on this forum for about 5 years (on and off), I am always learning. There is a lot of information available to you (the buyer).
Good luck to anyone looking to buy a new Accord soon.
I am shouting this out to buyers in this forum. Please listen..... it has been paying great dividends for Edmunds forum members who listen and use advice, & me for over 45 years with over 1100 new purchases for family and friends.
Use above advice from @bluemkn57cars they work . Use all online tools, negotiate as much online 1st while doing your pre- homework, negotiate thru any month, The real negotiations take place on the last 2 days, last day of the month. I start my negotiations to buy last 2 days holding out till the last day making all dealers blink 1st. Fully knowing I am now getting there rock bottom price for that month. .
Again....I only buy / lease New vehicles last 2 days, last day of any month, or One of the ending sales quarters . This will help you get dealers lowest price. Targeting as many dealers your willing to travel to will help you make the best possible deal in your area.. that's the bottom line... knowing YOU made the best possible deal on that certain month. .............Be mindful of below information
Accord Buyers .. Dealer.. Hold- back = 2% of the Base MSRP
Dealers doc fee......... is added profit on top of your agreed price that dealer takes back
Manufacture to dealer Incentives .... Adds to dealers profit if u cant get all of incentive.
There is hidden Trunk money / promotions to dealers throughout the year that most customers don't know about that lowers pricing.

Where in Chicago did you get it from? The lowest I am able to find one is 3k below Msrp. So right at invoice.
Does anyone know dealerships in Chicagoland area that typically offer the best prices?
"Honda
Edmunds estimate: -8.3%
Cox Automotive estimate: -6.1%
Actual results: -9.2%
Honda sold 125,701 units for the month. The company's namesake Honda brand declined 8.4%, while its Acura luxury lineup slipped 15.9%.
The company's critically acclaimed and recently redesigned Accord sedan fell 19.3%. Experts said the company has been reluctant to discount the car for fear of hurting its resale value. But that has undermined sales."
Although Finance offers on the 2018 Accord have been extended until 7/5/2018, the rates have remained unchanged from last month. Still no listed 72 month offer.

So looks like Honda cut the mf in half for May but still no incentives?
As for me, I am in no rush to buy. I am considering other brands, so it will boil down to value and price for me. I have no brand loyalty.

- MSRP of the car
- Sale price before any incentives
- Incentives (if any)
- Dealer doc fees
- Any other fees
The more info you have, the better informed you will be. This will ensure you do not get taken for a ride. If some dealers are unwilling to provide info via email, move on to other dealers. Only walk into a dealership to either test drive the car or finalize a deal. Do not fall for the "come into the dealership" line if you have not yet agreed on a price. It might be a waste of time trying to negotiate face to face, if you are far apart in price with the dealership.MSRP for this car (from Honda's website) is $31,205. Invoice price is $28,616. So a price of around $27k (which will be about $1600 below invoice will be a great deal at the end of the month). Not sure what pricing is like in Sacramento, but use some of the tactics mentioned in this forum to negotiate and get a good deal. How soon are you looking to buy?
