BTW, for those that care, they're doing 1.9% APR (12-36 months) and 2.9% APR (48-60 months) through Honda right now, I believe?

Was hoping for something better but with prime rate at 4.75 and going up I guess 1.9 is good. My first 2 quotes this month are no better than quotes I got thru the 1st quarter. Car lots around here are bulging with accords so I guess I'll play the waiting game for a bit longer

    Hi there,

I have been trying to buy a new car for several weeks and it is quite a challenge. There is one internet sales offered me the following breakdown for a 2018 Honda Accord LX in South Florida area:
        MSRP Vehicle Price$24,460.00
     Savings -$2,782.37
     Price$21,677.63
     Wheel Locks+$149.00
     Vehicle Selling Price$21,826.63

     Sales Tax (estimate)+$1,416.87
     Tire/Battery/MVWEA+$8.50
     Tag/Registration Fees (estimate)+$349.00
     Dealer Service Fee+$799.00

     Balance Due (estimate)$24,400.00

I don't think this is a decent deal but the sales person is very straightforward and I feel like working with him. After he offered me this price, I asked about the graduate program $500 discount, which of course I am qualified for based on their advertisement, he told me that it was only for leasing. After I showed him the ad, he again changed his response saying the discount already included in the quote.

He also sent me an online credit application which asks for all my personal information. When I asked him why it looked different from HFS online application, he told me it's AutoNation credit application.

To this point, I feel things look tricky. Is this an okay deal? I'm not buying what he explained about the graduate program discount but not sure how to negotiate on the price next. Shall I do the online pre-approval credit application on HFS website and bring the result to the dealer? They do have a 1.9% APR, which I think is good. But things look tricky and I am not sure if the dealer will accept it.

    Any suggestion is highly appreciated!

Would you have bought if he had taken anouther $500 off after you reminded him of the college grad rebate? If so, just tell him you'd buy if he took $500 off. Otherwise walk away. Seems kinda fishy he first said the $500 off is just for a lease, and then changed his story to it's already been deducted in the price offer.

Since the 2018 Accord is not selling very well, I think you might be able to get 3k off of msrp + the 1.9 financing.

Accord pricing is slowly getting better . At some point Honda will have to dump off this years models overstock. I was just on a NJ Honda dealer lot that had rows & rows of Accords. A barn sale is coming the next few months . Accords odd styling, bad ingress/ egress coupled with just recent bad incentive, finance , lease numbers were hurting sales.

Rows & Rows of them ...lol wait it will pay off

I agree completely, I'm in NJ and been keeping an eye on stock numbers. Hamilton has 444 2018 accords and planet has 433. In south jersey and eastern Pa. most dealers have between 100 to 200 in stock and the hybrids are just starting to arrive. I got a quote on a touring 1.5 this morning (30269) and the price is the same as Feb and march PLUS $1000 flexcash that is no longer available (31269). Are they kidding me LOL. I hope Honda understands supply and demand and makes adjustments

@brian125 - You are always spot on.

@jerseydevil01 - I won't be surprised if flexcash is brought back next month, in time for Memorial Day.

    ... So guys,
I was offered 23.5K out the door for the 2018 Honda Accord Sport. After reading what you guys are saying.. I feel like an idiot for not pulling the trigger because they didn't have my color.

I was quoted invoice less 1000 for Costco Program in Central Calif this weekend for touring 2.0, my price was about 32,950. Is this a good price or should I push for more?

What was the price before TTL. OTD doesn't help us much, since taxes are different in different states.

That is an awful deal. Reach out to as many dealers as possible and tell them the first one with the lowest price will get your business.

It would be about $21,500 for that car... TTL is about 10%-ish.. from where I live.

Costco Auto Price from one dealer was $33,218.22 on a 2.0T Touring. Emailed two other dealers, one gave a sales price of $32,918, and another gave $33,600. These quotes are not much of a discount from invoice, and one even said that the Accord is selling fast haha.

Going to have to push back and ask for more of a discount. I am located in Indianapolis.

My advice will be to request a quote without going through Costco. You might get a better deal via a dealer's website. Ask if they have Flex cash.

You might also be better off either waiting till the end of the month or waiting till memorial day.

I'm not an expert but that's helpful info. I'm from same area and debating between 1.5 exl or the touring. any reason you choose touring over exl... maybe that will help me. was that the only offer back you got?

I thought I heard that the Accord program ended on 4/10. If that's true, have the new numbers come out yet? When they do, I would appreciate learning the incentives, rebates, and specials for buying a 2018 Accord Touring 2.0 for zip 10510.

    Thanks!

Yeah I only received one quote through CAP, and I have emailed several dealers who have all offered around invoice + or - a few hundred. Best price I have received so far is $32,918.

    Thanks for the response!

I got a few more offers but they were more expensive than this offer. The reason I wanted a touring model is primarily for the convenience amenities: HUD, wireless charging and ventilated seats. But also because and exl with navigation already runs you around 31-32K

Anyone think that asking for a price of $32000 before TTL is unreasonable considering the decrease in sales in March and unattractive leasing rates?

I guess waiting it out would help in terms of receiving a competitive offer.

EDIT: Looks like someone got a quote of $32k on another forum.
  • ny_sxny_sx Member Posts: 142
@the5rivers - At the end of March, I got a quote of $32,490 for a Touring 2.0T before TTL. When I asked about an additional $1000 FlexCash discount, I was told FlexCash was gone, so I think low $32s is doable, less if FlexCash is back for April.

Hi, thanks for the response. Yeah I am thinking $32000 is doable, I just got a quote for $32,358. When I sent that to some other dealers they were not happy and said "if they want to give away their accords go ahead, but we wont." I thought that was a bit unprofessional, a simple no would have sufficed.

LOL yeah, I agree with you that was very unprofessional. I wouldn't exactly be interested in buying from them if they told me that.. now usually I would wait and if they contact you again then I would be pretty brutally honest with them. It's business.. should be professional at all time.

Yeah I sent an email to the GM, just letting him know that one of your sales reps did send a quote and when I sent him a lower quote, he responded as such.

I am not upset that they didnt match it, I am just amazed at the response haha. Oh well. And yeah, if they do send a follow-up, I am going to tell them that their response was unprofessional.

I do not think $32k is a good deal on the Touring 2.0T, IMO. If you are not in a rush to buy, let dealers come down in price. I would aim for Memorial Day weekend and reach out to dealers telling them you will buy today from whomever offers you the lowest price. If you can get a sale price of not more than $31.5k with $1k flex cash, I will buy the car (as long as doc fees are not $500 or more).

I got offered about $31.8k plus $1k flex cash a couple of months ago, however I was not in "love" with the Accord, and that was without any negotiation. I bought my Accord from this dealership 5 years ago. They had the lowest price and still do. Other dealerships were asking for more than $32.5k.

My advice to anyone looking to buy an Accord is to be patient and do research. If dealers in your area do not want to play ball, then expand your search area. For those in the northeast, some dealers in MA and MD seem to offer great pricing.

    Good luck.

Based on my experience (albeit only a few days), I have not been able to get any dealer to go lower than $32,358, which at this point is a pretty good deal (My goal is $32k). I know with flex cash last month, there were quotes of around $31.5 and I think there was a CAP quote around $30.7. All but two of the dealers I have spoken to have been willing to negotiate and beat other quotes, so I am getting closer haha.

I unfortunately cannot wait another month and half for a car as my MB lease ended about a month ago, and I was renting up until 10 days ago and need a car within the next week or so, but there may or may not be better deals around Memorial day.

I unfortunately cannot wait another month and half for a car as my MB lease ended about a month ago, and I was renting up until 10 days ago and need a car within the next week or so, but there may or may not be better deals around Memorial day.
Too bad you are located in Indianapolis. If you were in the Boston area, I would have directed you to the dealership that gave me the lowest quote.

    Good luck.

    Sales Tax $1864 (NJ 6.625%)
    DMV Fee $300

It's about $1,500 under invoice, not sure if this is the going rate.

Where did you get this deal? I'm in NJ as well. And are you sure this is for the 2.0 before taxes and fees? thanks

@hokiears Fyi, MSRP for the Sports 2.0 T (from Honda's website) is $31,200.
Invoice price is about $28,611. So your deal before doc fees is about $1206 below invoice. Adding the $499 doc fees only makes it $707 below invoice. So not such a great deal. Not sure where you came up with the $1500 below invoice number.

Btw, $99 for wheel locks and $129 for nitrogen and tire protection is a rip off. Have you tried reaching out to other dealers for better pricing? If not, use some of the tactics discussed in this forum.

If you are not in a rush to buy, then waiting for a better deal at the end of the month or next month might land you a better deal.

    Good luck.

Has anyone else seen 23.5k OTD for a sport other than the one guy a page back or so? I feel like that must be a LX price.
Deals I’m seeing is around around 1500 to 2k over that.
I would be satisfied with that purchase price and my tax rate is only 6%.
I am going to try and hold out until next month before I spend the $$$

Fyi, MSRP for the Sport 1.5 CVT is $26,670.
    Invoice price is $24,479.
To be below $1500 of invoice, the sale price would have to be about $22,979 (just below $23k before any doc fees and incentives).

Not sure if it is doable in this current climate, given that some dealers are not being aggressive with pricing. I am not sure where you are located, but if you have time on your side, do some research and use some of the tactics laid out in this forum to get your best price. I would wait till either the last few days of this month or Memorial day weekend.

    Good luck.

I've been lurking on the site for a while, and am now planning to start the email/give me your best price/beat this price process in a week or so. I've used this process in buying my last 2 cars, 2008 & 2013 Accords, & have been satisfied with the results.
I'm located in north central Florida, & the dealers are pretty spread out from where I live: There's only one in my town, Ocala, & the next nearest are at least 45 minutes away. I'm planning to buy the Touring CVT.
I'm wondering if others have noticed the wide range of prices reported by the various web sites - TrueCar, KBB, NADA & Edmund's. I'm looking at the lowest prices, of course, and today they range from $30,479 (NADA) to $31,384 (TrueCar), to $31,717 (KBB) to $32,100 (Edmund's). And all include the $890 destination charge and advertising, and are based on local sales reports. I do know that Florida dealers all charge a pretty sizable non-negotiable doc fee, $499 when I last bought in December 2012, so this needs to factored in when negotiating the price. One Tampa dealer told me their doc fee was $797!
All but the NADA lowest cost figure of $30,479 ($1300+ under invoice) are near or even above invoice. If folks down here are actually paying that much for their Accords it seems it'll make it more challenging for those of us trying to get a good price! I did well the last 2 times, when sedans were still in demand, so I remain optimistic.

@billart - My advice is to use those sites for research purposes, such as looking up the MSRP of the trim you are interested in. I usually go to Honda's website for that info. Those sites are also helpful in looking up the invoice price of the car and any rebates/incentives or finance offers.

I would not rely on Truecar for pricing since they get paid a finder's fee for every buyer they refer to a certified dealership. You do not always get the lowest price by using their services.

Read up on previous posts on how to go about negotiating your best deal. You mentioned you only have one dealership close to you, and the other nearest one is about 45 minutes away. If you want to get a great deal, be prepared to reach out to as many dealers as possible. This might include widening your search radius. You are right about dealer doc fees in FLorida. I have seen some as high as $799, such as the Tampa dealer you pointed out. Make sure you factor that into your price when negotiating.

Do you plan to finance or pay cash?

    Good luck.

I'll be paying cash. My local dealer has never in the past been willing to even come close to deals other dealers have offered, so my last 2 Accords were bought at a dealer (Love Honda) 45 minutes from me. When seeking the best price in those transactions I've emailed as far as Orlando, about 90 minutes away. I plan to do the same this time, perhaps including dealers in the Tampa, Jacksonville & Cocoa Beach areas, all about 2 hours out.
I've found it worthwhile to include in my research as much data as possible - not only the sites mentioned above, but this forum as well, to the extent that I can find buyers of the Touring CVT. My goal has & will continue to be to match or beat the lowest price I find in all of these sources. I achieved success once, & came close the other time.
I'm trying to hold off starting until next weekend, closer to the end of the month. I'd been hoping to get a shot at a good deal on a Touring Hybrid, but prices, to the extent they're even available, all seem to be almost at MSRP, which blows up the payback period for the cost over buying the Touring CVT. I'd also like to see some road test reports on the Hybrid, but except for a preproduction test last October none seem to be available yet.

    @billart

I am sure you already know this, but I wanted to share this with anyone else looking to buy the same car.

MSRP for the Touring 1.5 CVT is $34,690.
Invoice price is $31,794. Any price below invoice is a good start.

Good luck and post back once you make your purchase.

Thanks @bluemkn57cars, I fat fingered the 2 and 5 when doing the math. I agree 100% on the wheel locks and tire protection and called them out on it. I still have 3 payments left on my TLX, I'm just going to take my time and see what comes along during the summer. Appreciate your input.

Our Honda of Tysons Corner Out The Door price is $23359.73

Let me try and break down your deal.
    • MSRP for this car (on Honda's website) is $24,460 (which includes the $890 destination and handling fee from Honda)
    • Invoice price for this car is $22,463
    • Not sure where you get the $975 freight charge from. Double check with the dealer. If they claim it is correct, either call them out on it since Honda charges $890 or move onto another dealer
    • If I add the $19991 sonic price + the $975 freight charge, I get a sale price of $20,966
    • Using your numbers, you are at around $1500 below invoice ($1497 to be exact) before doc fees. Not a bad deal at all.
    • However, your $699 doc fees brings that amount below invoice to just under $800 ($798 to be exact). Not so great deal after you factor that in.
Do all dealers in VA charge an online filing fee? What does it cover? I know it is only $11.50, but that sounds bogus.

There are few items I mentioned you need to clarify, but given the high doc fee I would ask for a bigger discount on the sale price (maybe an extra $400 - $500). However, I doubt you will get that on the base LX model. It does not hurt to ask and see what they will counter with.

Have you tried reaching out to other VA dealers to see if they can beat this offer?

    Good luck.

Just got this deal for my mother in law in Wisconsin:

2018 Accord EX 1.5L CVT (Platinum White Pearl)

    MSRP: $28,360
    Sale price: $25,360
    Doc: $219
    Tax/Title: $1,569
    OTD: $27,148

They beat the Costco price that we were originally quoted for ($25,520) by $160. All in all, I think she got a solid deal without really having to negotiate.

Invoice price for this car is $26,020, so your mother-in law's deal is $660 below Invoice. After doc fees, it brings it down to $441 below invoice.

If she is happy with the price and the car, then that's all that matters.

    Congrats.

Several places in Maryland (College Park, Glen Burnie) ended up giving me OTD prices of $22,900 or $22,800 OTD for a base Accord. Ended up getting $22,775 from Owings Mills. Not sure if that helps you at all.

Hey! Yeah, it was for Honda Accord 2018 1.5 Sport.
The offer I got was about $21,500 for the car and 23.5K out the door.
I actually rejected that offer and then found this site.. which made me hella stupid for turning it down.
They didn't have my first or second choice of color. I know it was a good price at the time but it wasnt until I went on this site, I realized (for the time being) that it was fantastic price.
They had a flex cash program and they said it was the last day before it ended (I didnt really believe it.. but i guess they were telling the truth.)
I did test drove it and from the exterior, it seems like the car had been sitting in the lot for a while.. maybe that gave them some incentive to try to sell it? I don't know.
I have not gotten any price close to it right now. the closest quote I got so far is about $22,700. Im going to head over to that dealership tomorrow to see if I can negotiate a little more.

Keep me posted please. I am holding off until I see the deals next month but I have to purchase one within a few weeks. Same set up you’re looking at. I would be pretty happy with 24k OTD even. It would just be nice to know that’s within $500 of best deal available.
