One tactic you could use when emailing dealers is to tell them you will buy today from the dealership that offers you the lowest price and has flexcash.
Yeah I used this tactic. Not much dealers budged. The lowest now I have is $29,627 with OTD $32, 589. He did say either cash or finance is fine. Not sure if I want to go ahead and pull the trigger or not
Is that price after flex cash? What is holding you up from pulling the trigger?

Incentives on the way? There are a few new articles out pointing to dealer grumblings about the slow moving Accord. Not only is the Camry outselling the Accord, the Altima is as well (yikes). Patience may pay off for those who wait just a little longer.

Guess we will see what happens on 4/3, when the new programs are released.

    Hi Everyone,
Stumbled on this great forum yesterday while researching prices for the 2018 Honda Accord EX. Love the great tips over here. Am trying to get this vehicle in DE and the best I could do after reaching out to 10 dealers near me is : 2018 Honda Accord EX CVT $24,261 (requires Honda financing)

    Sales tax $1031.10

    Motor vehicle fees $280.00

    Dealer doc fee $141.00
    Total $25,713.10

Is this a good price? Also, why does the honda website show the MSRP as 27470 while all the dealers quote the MSRP as 28360.

Should I wait another couple of weeks to see if the price goes down because of the rumored incentives?

    Thanks

No flexcash was offered. Cash price. He said if I want FlexCash he can do it but only $500 lower.

I am talking with other dealers too. Some possible offer me a matching price of what I asked based on your advice.

Now I had 2 dealers offering the same quote below (little different but not worth mention), another one is trying to push his manager so I didn't list here

    2018 Honda Accord Sedan Touring
    MSRP:$34,690
    Special:$29,837
    Doc Charge :$80
    State & local Taxes:$2318.57
    Total license Fees:$445.75
    Total cash price:$32,681.32
    $1000 toward down payment.
That pretty much make it $28,837 after FlexCash.

Pretty sure I can squeeze $500 more in down payment since I qualified for grad rebate.

    Good price huh?

Now I tried to trade my realiable Corolla 2008 LE with only had 57k miles in it. Will get a Carmax offer first to get their matching or at least a fair offer.

Looking at these latest numbers, your sale price (before incentives and doc fees) is $1957 below invoice. I will jump on this deal, but I understand you want to get a Carmax quote for your trade first. Regarding the recent college grad incentive, make sure you have read the terms (on Honda's website) to ensure whether you qualify for the extra cash.

Good luck and let us know what happens. Only a dew days left before the end of the month.

The destination charge is the same, nationally, and likely represents an average shipping cost from the factory to the dealer.

Thanks erseydevil01 and Michaell. What do you guys think about the price of the car? Should I get it at this price or is there a chance that I could do better.

Scheduled to pick up my '18 2.0T Touring tomorrow night and utilized the Costco Buying Plan, which seems to have returned better pricing than what I got back from my credit union and USAA. I'll document all the costs paid when I have the document in front of me to reference. Just over $32,200 I believe is the Costco cost for this vehicle. and that's utilizing the Flex Funds and anything else. Trading in my 2010 EX-L V6 for this feature-laden turbo-4. Hoping I'll adjust to the slightly noisier 4 cylinder, in light-to-light driving, as well as the slightly more confined, cockpit-line seating in this new Accord. That's as much due to the design of the lower part of the dash, where the A/C controls and such are, as well as a higher center console. Look for a follow on to this in a few days as I have always felt I should contribute to this forum since I've always leveraged so much of what others have shared.

The process is okay. The finance manager tried to charge me $750 for the car alarm and tbh I was shocking. I thought that was basic and came with the car itself until he came up with that BS price.

I told him that's not how you do business but he didn't budge. He lower the alarm to $600 and said either I paid it or leave with the car no alarm.

Basically my brother who came with me said so. Most people in family bought new cars and they said it's there when they went to the finance room. TIL that they did pay for it, they just don't know it because it usually blend with warranty package and other stuff with finance.

Obviously I will keep that in mind next time I negotiate the car. Also, paying for the alarm I really don't mind, but charge me $750 I think it's absurd. Willing to bet it only cost them $200-$300 for it

Hey folks. Its been a while since I've been in the market for a new car (17 years to be precise. Thank you trusty Corolla!). So I'm fairly green to the negotiating process. I am interested in the 2018 Accord EX-L. I am not in a tearing hurry to buy now but would like to do so in the next couple of months. I have read through most of the tips and negotiation tactics mentioned in this forum. I wanted to run my plan by you guys to see if it was reasonable.

Invoice price for the car is $27,411. I was thinking of offering $26,500, which would be a hair above a 10% discount on MSRP. Adding to that will be a, $890 destination charge, and $2,045 in TTL (TN), bringing my OTD price at $29,435. I'm hoping to score the $1,000 incentive, which will bring my OTD price to $28,435. A $28,500 OTD price is what I am shooting for.

Do you think my initial offer is too low to the point where the dealer would dismiss it as offensive?

    Thanks for the input.

Something I have learned through the years when shopping for a vehicle is don't be the first one to throw out a number - you put yourself at a disadvantage in the negotiation process. Contact as many dealer internet departments as possible - state the exact vehicle you are interested in equipped the way you want it and request their best quote. Based on the responses you get along with pricing research on sites like this one, you will get a good feel for the market. Narrow the dealers down to the ones who are seriously competing for your business and start working the pricing down to your target (or below). When you've reached a price that is suitable to you and is comparable to what others are reporting, make your offer to buy at the dealer of your choice.

Just wanted to share some general advice to folks looking to buy a new car. After reaching out to dealerships and negotiating your best deal, always make sure you have a backup dealership you can fallback to. This is just in case the dealer with the best deal plays games when you show up to sign the papers, lies about the vehicle not being available or tries to up sell you unnecessary accessories.

At the end of the day, it is your money and you are free to say NO to BS and walkout at anytime. I did it 5 years ago, and I will do it again if it happens when I buy my next car.

If something smells fishy or does not make sense, ask questions. If the dealer is not being transparent or they tell you the price of the car is only good till the end of the day, I would just walkout.

Sorry but you should have just walked out. My 2013 Honda Accord comes with the standard alarm from Honda.

Just bought it yesterday so I also want to share you our funny story.

What a coincidence. My brother also owned a 2013 Accord and said the very same thing

He tried to argue with him about it and we wasted at least 2 hours on this matter.

At this moment I can't back off or walk away so I told the finance guy I will pay for the alarm. We settle at $600. Here is what hilarious part began

The guy offering us the 1.9% APR and I'm pretty surprised since I know it only for Civic. We sign the paper but I said nothing and believe maybe they can do that. Of course I paid $600 for the alarm additionally to the price of the car and feel scammed but it's over I guess

But no, when go to my car to finalize stuff (the sale guys show manual, how to use it, blah blah), this finance manager go back to us and said

"hey I'm sorry but I make an honest mistake, I can't approve 1.9% APR for your accord, I thought we are selling you a civic (LOL). I'm sorry I didn't pay attention to the paperwork"

So my brother extremely frustrated and if the guy stop talking for a sec he gonna yelled at his face and say screw it we don't want to buy anymore. The finance guy said hey I know you're not happy so how about I give you the alarm for free. Let redo the paperwork and I will remove it for you. In fact, I paid it for you

He also indicate that the alarm cost him $250 on his behalf if he gave us for free. Like I believe him lol, but at that moment we're so tired so we let him redo the paperwork and get the 5.9% APR rate.

I know the rate is worse, but I planned to pay off it after 1st payment so tbh I don't really care. But that how I believe the alarm should come with the car with no cost.

A hard but funny lesson, I guess it not that bad.

Honda has announced an 11 day shutdown this summer on Accord production, to align with sales.

Be interesting to see if there are any incentives released next week.

No incentives or rebate? If you can, does $32,892 sound fair for purchase or do you think there are a few more dollars to be squeezed out if delivery is before the end of the month?

Well is true, Honda will slowdown production to the Accord and that is a Honda strategy to not make the Accord a failure on the market, because that can created a bad residual price . a badge and a annoucement of car of the year it dosen't sell a car anymore . Now Honda knows, but again lets see how clear this will be for Honda

I didn't see this discussed anywhere, but for those like me who didn't realize it, Flex Cash is a finite quantity of money. In other words, unlike a rebate, Flex Cash runs out. I just called a few local dealers who informed me that they had used their allotment up. I prefer buying cars right at the end of a month, but this is a consideration when looking at a Honda, I guess.

Flexcash or dealer cash does run out when used up as per the online quotes I have gotten. 1000 for purchase was available back in February too. It looks like the dealer gets to decide how to dole it out as some dealer require you to finance thru Honda financial or if you can use it for cash purchases. 1 dealer even changed from requiring financing to include cash purchases at the end of the month. They can even offer different flexcash amounts for different trim levels, seems unfair that a touring is 10,000 more than an LX yet gets the same amount. It does seem that in the quotes I have gotten online the smaller dealers will include the fact that there is limited flexcash included while quotes from larger dealers will just state that financing is required to get their price. I guess we will have to wait and see what Honda offers next week and even with the shutdown over the summer the 2019 accord will be a clone of the 2018 and it won't be a big factor, they did this before in 2009 during the downturn

I'm guessing that Honda might offer some better financing rates in a few days....

Thanks for the tip. I will keep that in mind when I start sending out feeler emails to dealerships around here.

Another word of advice; if a dealer tells you to come in for the best price do not fall for that trick. Tell them you will buy (today) from the dealer with the best price. Make sure you are aware of all fees associated with the purchase such as doc fees, registration fees, etc... If dealer A is not forthcoming about pricing info, move on to dealer B and dealer C. There is a lot of advice posted in this forum.

I will say this again; if you are about the sign the papers and the sales guy or finance guy does a bait and switch, get up and walk out. At the end of the day it is your money and there are other Honda dealers out there.

Invoice price is $22,463 (from autotrader.com). Your price before dealer doc fees is $1171 below invoice. With doc fees, it is $875 below invoice. So not such a great deal. Have you tried reaching out to more dealers in your area to compare pricing? Do not forget to ask about flexcash, if you plan to finance through Honda.

No plan to finance through Honda, as the rates aren't preferable, even with Flexcash, if they were offering, it would be at best a wash.

I've compared five dealerships in the area and that's the best I've been given so far (though another is in the neighborhood of that balance...the others were were upwards of a thousand higher).

How far below invoice would you expect before considering the deal to be at least decent?

I can't say at this time. Pricing is based on a few factors:
    1. Supply and demand
    2. Dealer inventory - how many LX models are on the dealer's lot
    3. How long has the car been on the dealer's lot
    4. Time of the month / year you are buying
If you are not in a rush to buy, expand your search and use some of the tactics laid out in this forum. However, if you plan to buy soon, when emailing dealers, tell them you will buy today from the dealer with the lowest price.

There is a ton of information in this forum and the leasing forum. I am sure if you google "leasing a car", you will also come across a lot of information.

Although leasing might be cheaper (monthly payment wise) vs buying a car, there are mileage restrictions and additional fees associated with it. The first step is to educate yourself. If you like having a new car every 2-3 years, then leasing might be for you. However, if you keep a car for at least 5 years and drive a lot miles, then you might be better off purchasing a car.

    Good luck.
