    Was that "Rusty's VIP price?"

Discount from msrp of 4284 (30860-25977-599) is excellent for the EX-L. Did you have any other incentives because that discount is quite high relative to invoice (28301) ?

    nice job

Thank you! I bought the car from AutoNation. There were no other incentives from the numbers listed above. Frankly I was a little surprised they got that low. I wasn't planning on buying yesterday at all unless I got a good deal and I was firm about it. And I made that clear to them from the get go and I think they believed me. Looking at recent numbers posted, I was about a month or so away from having enough for a down payment to get to where I wanted to be in terms of financing. So I told them that if they met my target price I would buy today. I think that's partly why they didn't even bother trying to sell me any accessories and what have you.

That's over $1700 below invoice even with the $599 doc fee. You made the right decision by telling the dealer you will buy today, if they met your target price. They must have realized you were serious about buying the car.

    Great job.

I haven't hear for the monitor in the forum. My question is if Honda for the month of May should have a better financial rate , april it's 2.99 % X 60 month. I 'm looking for 1.99% x 60

No guesses as to what will happen next month with the lease or finance programs.

Thank you very much! The finance terms were 3.24% for 78 months obtained through a local credit union. I do not plan on getting anywhere close to the full term though. Likely will pay it off in 2 years. I just wanted as long a term as possible to reduce my monthly payment. The interest rate offered was pretty much the same for 60 months vs 78 so I went with the max term. I started negotiations with them stating that I wanted to stay at no more than $300 per month of a payment, with $6000 down. Their first offer got me to ~$400, second one to ~$345. I got a sense that that was about their bottom price, so I offered $500 more down and closed the deal on a final payment of $316 per month. So I sort of backed into the selling price based on my monthly payment, and let them adjust the price to get to where I needed to be. I figured I'd try that strategy instead of negotiating on the selling price since they would try and get me to my monthly budget figure and in turn that would result in the sales price that I expected to come out with. I'm happy with the way that worked out.

They had known of my interest in the car for a couple of month now since they obtained my info through a TrueCar quote I had looked up in January. At that time I told them I was not ready yet but will be in a few months. Even before the test drive I mentioned to them that I was interested in the car but not ready financially. I think these conversations set the tone of genuine interest in the car but not financially ready, so they worked with me.

Here are the financing options presented to me. This was the lowest rate they could match. I had obtained some local quotes as well and they were about the same if not more. I thought it was odd that the interest rate remained the same regardless of the term. The payment came down to my final number when I added the extra $500 down and chose the 78 month term.

I just checked Honda's finance offers. They are offering the following APR on the 2018 Accord:

    1.9% for 24-36 months
    2.9% for 37-60 months

It is quite interesting they are not offering any loan terms greater than 60 months at the moment on this model.

    You did well.

    @nick312 @tbirdmarco

Hey guys, so I did end up buying today.
so the MSRP for the 2018 Accord Sport 1.5 is $26,670

I don't remember the invoice off the top of my head but I think its around 24,000 (maybe a little less)

I got it for roughly $22,100.

My out the door cost is $24,400. (1.9% interest rate)

Things to keep in mind, I qualify for the recent grad $500 incentive.

I did make a call to the old dealership (different than the one I brought the car) that offer me 23.5k OTD, but they couldnt even get below 25,000 or beat my lowest written quote from other dealerships. I guess they really use their flex cash to try and sell the car.

I did pay like $900 more than that 23.5k deal. Now, if color is not a priority for you.. then yes I am an idiot for turning down that deal. I don't even know right now given both options what I would do. I do really like the Modern Steel color though (which is what I got)

Advice: Nick, If you can wait till May to see the incentive then you should keep that option open. However, I would give it another shot in about a week when its the last few days of April. You mentioned you would be happy if you get 24,000 OTD. I think thats very very possible if its the last few day of this month. (at least for Northern California, I know things change depend on where you live)

Let me know if you have any question or if you want another person's opinion, I would be happy to discuss.

Thanks folks for your kind words.

The finance manager did mention that there might be a chance that Honda extends the financing options to greater than 60 months next month. Possibly even lower interest rate. This came up during negotiations when he saw I was prepared to wait it out if the price was not right. Now I'm not sure how much truth there was to it, but if dealerships are struggling with sales as they appear to be, Corporate is going to have to do something to start moving inventory.

I see some places are getting pretty good deals on the 18 accord and wonder if their options were limited to only certain vehicles or did they have their choice of any with respect to their desired trim level. In my area many of the 18's have been on lots for up to 6 months and sitting out in the snow, sleet and ice storms. You can check the month and year of manufacture on a sticker the inside of the driver side door jamb or the last 6 digits of the vin indicate the sequence of manufacture (the 1.5T, 2.0 T and hybrids are different sequences). The car lots are packed with Accords but they have yet to budge on price yet the Honda's Acura TLX division has incentives of up to 3500. This is definitely not sustainable. I wonder if Honda has previous leases ending and hope to sell them into an 18 at a higher price. Play the waiting game I guess continues...

if you put in a VIN at carjojo dot com, they show the time on the lot. Works more than it doesn't...

    ref: recent EX-L deals
the guy in Knoxville, TN got a great deal at 28.7k. Surprised the gent above got 3 rejects in NJ at 29650. Perhaps they will be hungry at month end. Inventory is high all over.

So your offer was $1488 below invoice. Is there a reason you were aiming for nearly $1500 below invoice at this time of the year? What is the sale price the dealer's countered with? Providing the OTD does not help, but my rough guess is that it was close to $28k.

At this point, if you really want to buy this car you have two options:
    • Reach out to out of state dealers, if you are prepared to travel.
    • Wait till the end of the month, and tell dealers the one who offers you the lowest price will get your business that day (Only do this if you actually plan to buy that day).

when the number it was in the presented to me and it was $ 30 711 and not even pay attencion any longer. it wasn"t even close . here in New York long Island taxes are 8.625 % i guessing that 30 711 - 24 00 ish so you right the car it was around $28200 estimate

I can't speak to the inventory in other states but the sticker on the door jamb of my car has a date of 04/18. In fact, the dealer told me that my car was delivered to their lot on 4/18/18 and I bought it on 4/21/18. Now this may just be the particular color I wanted (black) of which they only had one on the lot. However, I would imagine that if they didn't have a lot of inventory (all colors included) on site, they would not have been as willing to come down in price. The general consensus is that the Accord is not moving as fast as expected, so deal will be there for those that are able to wait. If not end of this month, I suspect some type of Memorial Day sale should be coming to move some of the inventory. Just gotta be patient for the right deal

Just some additional info - my buddy bought a 2018 Accord Sport 1.8 from the same dealership a week before I got mine. Without any negotiation, he was quoted a $23.6K, before TTL and processing fees. Just to give you another real sales number other than mine from the same city/dealership...

here in NY the Accord sleeping on the lots for a while, the inventory is huge for example only one dealer holds like Hillside Honda 354 Accords, that is insane for a small dealer

I have never been a big fan of the Camry. Toyota might offer better deals than Honda, ranging from better finance rates (0 % for 60 months) to better incentives. However, Toyota sells a lot of cars (especially the Camry) to fleets. Here in Boston, you see a lot of Camry cabs.

Here is my $0.02. If you have test driven the Camry and like the car, then buy it. However, do not base your decision just on the fact that you are getting a better deal on the car vs the Accord. As some have stated on this forum, it looks like 2018 Accords have been sitting on lots for longer than 2017 models a year ago. Dealers are not selling them as fast as they thought they would, so Honda might either have to offer better incentives or better finance rates. We are already seeing Honda offering 1.9% (24 - 36 months) and 2.9% (37 -60 months) financing this month on the 2018 Accord.

Who knows what the month of May and Memorial Day will bring, but I will bet that these offers are only going to get better on the Accord if Honda wants to start selling more cars again. Have you driven the new Accord? What model were you looking at? If you like the Accord better than the Camry and you are not in a rush to buy, why not wait a few weeks and see if you can land a deal?

    @john4545

I do not plan to test drive the 2018 Camry. I did test drive the 2018 Accord last month. It was kind of a rushed test drive (I was bringing in my 2013 for an oil change, and one of the sales guys was trying to convince me to upgrade). I believe it was either the EX or EX-L model with the CVT transmission. I was not too impressed. I had been looking at a Touring but I am still not sold on that exterior design. However, I like all the features that come with that trim from cooled seats to HUD and safety features. I just wished the heated steering wheel was standard and there was an available 360 degree camera.

Anyway, I am not in a rush to upgrade to a new car. I am also considering other luxury brands ranging from the Acura TLX to the Audi A4 and the upcoming VW Arteon. I am not fully sold on the TLX for various reasons. The A4 is about $10k more expensive than the Touring, but it has 90% of the features I am looking for in a new car. The Arteon is slated for release this summer. I would love to test drive it. I had also looked at the upcoming Genesis G70 sport, but it might be too small for me and the resale value is not the best. So, I am probably not going to make a decision until the fall (at the earliest).

    Hope this helps.

Cap cost usually applies when you are referring to a lease. If this number is your selling price for a purchase, let me try and break down your deal.

MSRP for this car is $28,360. Invoice price is $26,020. So you are at $1401 below invoice before dealer doc fees. Not bad at all. Is this the best offer you have received so far? What are your dealer doc fees? As long as you are not located in Florida, where these fees can be as high as $800, this is a solid deal. You could try and negotiate a couple of hundred dollars off, but not sure if you will be successful.

I will be leasing this car. Another dealer said the lowest they would go would be $25,400. I was hoping to get to $23,300. I’m California so doc fees are about $80

Is there are a reason you are aiming for $23.3k? I am not sure if pricing has come down yet on the 2018s. If you are ready to lease within the next few days, I will tell the dealer that gave you the $24.6k price that you will sign the papers TODAY if the sale price was $24k. See what they counter with. If they accept your offer, at that price, you will be at about $2k below invoice. That will be a hell of a deal. Even at the current price, it is still a great deal.

    Good luck.

I am leasing a civic right now, and I'm upside down on the lease. if I get $23,000, I would be within my budget, since I would be adding negative equity to the new lease.

Why not wait until the Civic lease is up; then you'll have no negative equity to deal with.

I have about 31 months left. I wouldn't mind rolling the negative equity over. I should have waited to get the Accord.

I doubt any dealer will sell you a brand new '18 Accord EX for $23k.

If I were in your shoes, I would just keep paying off the civic for the next 31 months. Rolling negative equity into the purchase of a new car is not the best move.

At the end of the day, it is your decision and your $$. Good luck.

I just bought my car yesterday. Here are the details:

    2018 Accord Touring 1.5/CVT
    MSRP 34,690 + (see below)
price 29,690 ((5020 discount off MSRP)
    doc fee $899 (Florida!!)
    TTL 2458
OTD 33,047 The invoice is 31,794, so a 2124 discount from invoice

In asking for best prices I emphasized that I need a new tag and only wanted splash guards, and did NOT want any other upgrades, add-ons or protection plans. A few dealers said ok, a few said they were included & that was that, & a few were mute on the subject. I ruled out those whose prices were way high, presumably because of these add-ons - 4 dealers insisted on staying over 34k and even 35k!

I initially contacted 15 Florida dealers (I know, but I'm retired & have the time). All but a few responded. Almost all responded with too high prices except, interestingly, the dealer from whom I ended up buying. Honda of Ocala had the best bid on day 1, which shocked me, given it's past history of refusing to compete on price. In the 2d round most came down at least some, and I ended up with 3 within about 200 of each other. Some fine tuning got them within 100 of each other, & after deciding to stay with the local, I ended up paying only $60 more than the other 2, Love Honda of Homassassa (where I bought my last 2 Accords) & Coggins Honda of Deland.

Now the interesting part about MSRP & add-ons:
I told the internet sales manager, Frank Maiorino, that I would show up with a check for the exact amount. He said fine, there would be no surprises. He turned out to be wrong: the final price was $53 less than quoted! Good thing I did in fact bring my checkbook.
When going through the papers he pulled out the window sticker & I saw the infamous add-on sticker. I said whoa (or something similar), what's up with that? He said not to worry, the price was the same. And that's how it turned out. The car had splash guards, wheel locks, nitrogen, cargo tray & diamond-fusion glass protection (1945 by itself on the sticker!!). He pointed out that the pin strips & edge guards were missing, but that I should come in Fri. to have these put on.
the total MSRP cost of these add-ons was $2871, for an updated MSRP of $37,561. So my discount off total MSRP was actually $7890. Those added costs are grossly inflated, to be sure, but they are worth something, particularly the wheel locks & splash guards that I would have had to buy anyway. Anyway, my actual discount off invoice was probably in the $2500 area.

this deal indicates to me that the Accord is still not jumping off the lots. I've only seen 1, & it was 2 blocks from the dealership. Perhaps if I had waited until even closer to the end of the month I would have done even better, but I was chomping at the bit a bit.

Congrats on such a great deal. I hope folks will understand that sometimes you just have to reach out to a lot of dealers to get best deal. You also have to be firm when negotiating add-ons.

I always tell folks, if the sales guy / finance guy starts to play games when it is time to sign the papers, do not hesitate to walk out. You have the power.

    Enjoy the car. @billart
