Is there any historical data if MF rates go up or down in December and /or January. Currently in Chicago they are .001, but I would be interested in waiting if there is a chance it might go down (or the residual up). Thanks!

    No patterns to the numbers.

Residuals very rarely go up through the model year.

    @kyfdx @Michaell

    Received this deal today:

    2018 XLE AWD, 36 month, 12k, Northern NJ w/ 6.875% tax rate

    MSRP: $43,146
    Selling Price: $37,935
Net Cap: $42,110.39 ($419 doc fee, $650 acq. fee, $1850 for lease payoff, $337 for MV fees, and &919.39 for taxes; $460 cap deduction for customer cash)
    65% residual
    MF: .001

    Monthly: $460.87
    Due at signing: $460.87

Good deal? Also, I want to apply MSDs to this lease but they told me that I couldn’t because it’s not a standard lease, it’s subvented. I’ve never heard of this given that the MF is a fairly standard rate. Is this true?

    Thanks!

I'm just a few pennies off that quote.

Dealer is correct; MSD can only be used when the "standard" TFS MF of .00225 is used.

If you're comfortable with the discount from sticker, everything else looks to be good.

FYI, that $1850 you are rolling into the new lease is costing you just over $50/mo on the payment. Any reason why you can't wait until the existing lease is up?

    I got this deal today:

2018 XLE AWD, 36 month, WA state:

    Price: $40,624
    Pulse: 299
    MF: .001
    Residual: 27,056 (67% ?)
    Allowed miles/year: 12,000
    Acq fee: 650
    Govt fees: 610.5
    Taxes: 1957.76
    Doc fee: 150
    Gap prem: 895

    Monthly: $449.7
    Due at signing: $3800

I would be ending my current lease on my 2016 Highlander Limited 2.5 months ahead of time. Also, on my request, they will add the rear parking assist sonar system, which is normally only included in the Limited version, which is what adds $800 to the $3000 down payment.

    Is this a good deal?

    Thanks!

What is the adjusted cap cost and MSRP?

I'm pretty sure that WA taxes the monthly payment.

I think MSRP is $41,900. Adjusted cap cost I don’t know but here is the sheet I got:

Here for an updated sheet that includes the added $800 for the parking assist sonar system:

Looks like you are paying almost sticker price for it?
    65% residual for 36/12

Adding extras on a lease just kills the payment, because those extras aren't residualized.
Noticed that you were paying $895 for GAP insurance on the first quote, but no GAP on this one?
    $4581 due at signing?

You are in the Southeast Toyota region, and their leases aren't through TFS, but through SETF.
We don't have their numbers, but the ones we've seen haven't been very good.

It's really hard to say. We have no visibility into any of the numbers used by SETF; they could be regional within the region (that is. FL could be different from GA, etc.).

But - .00004 difference in MF is a miniscule amount on the payment.

I am getting higher quotes than orher people on this forum and I wonder if I  can do anything about it or if it is just unfortunate the region I am in. Also, the tax is calculated on the entire sales price in my state instead if just on the monthly payments. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can negotiate money factor if it's been marked up. Of course, if you don't know the base money factor that doesn't help.

Yes, NC charges tax on the full price, but it's still only 3%, right?

Just wait until the first of the year. At that point, GA will only tax the lease payment.

Last night I signed a lease for a 2018 Highlander XLE in NYC:

    MSRP:  $ 42,706
    Selling Price: $39,556
    RV:  $27,758.90
    MF: 0.0010
    Monthly pmt: $395
    cash down: $ 0
due at signing: $2,533 ($395 1st month pmt; $64 Registration fees; $659 acquisition fee; $75 doc fee; $12.50 tire fee; $1,326 upfront taxes; $10 DMV inspection fee)

Now, while this seems like a good deal, I think I missed getting credit for what I believe was positive lease equity on the 2015 Highlander I'm turning over (the maturity date is 12/23/2018 but I've completed all payments; RV on this lease is $25,259; KBB for this car in good condition is $26,533)

I have not returned 2015 Highlander yet - is it worth buying it and selling it back to the dealer at this point?

Since dealership will be making money by me simply turning over car to them (never mind them reselling the car for a profit), should I expect them to absolve me of all excessive wear? (there's a dent that resulted in chipped paint and minor scratches in other parts of vehicle)

    Thankd for any feedback!

You've prepaid a year's worth of payments, or is that a typo
If you're referring to the maturity date on my current lease, it should be 12/23 of this year, not 2018.  What is my best course of action regarding returning the 2015 Highlander? Thanks again...

And assume all costs of excessive wear? I feel that the dealer should pay for those since I didn't get any trade-in equity (yes, now I realize that this is my fault)

If you've made the payments, that is your obligation. If you wanted to use the equity, you would have had to buy it out, then sell it back to the dealer.

Surprised you didn't have them taking the car back and absolving you of any end-of-lease charges a part of your new lease deal. Trading it in would likely be the only way to capture any equity. If you buy it out, then sell it, you are on the hook for sales tax.

So it looks like my best bet is to buy the 2015 Highlander from Toyota Financial and have the dealer where I got my new lease buy it back from me and if they don't offer me a reasonable price, take it to another dealership?

I wouldn't say that's your best approach. As my co-host noted, you could trade it in and, if the trade value is higher than the buyout price, get the equity that way.

If you buy it, the sales tax you pay will eat into any equity you may have.

So since I signed the new lease already without having them include any trade-in value of my current leased car on the new lease contract, my best bet is to just return the car to them requesting they assume cost of excessive wear and tear.  Could my leverage be that if they don't do that, then I'll return the car to a different dealership and then they'll lose any profit they'll make on this car?

    You don't have any leverage.

Call the dealership, and tell them you are hoping to realize some equity, and ask them if there is anything you can do.

    Don't have your region, yet
    But, .00100 MF

No 10K allowance from Toyota - 24/12 numbers are 72% and (we think) .00100

    .00100 MF and 66%/65% residual for SE/XLE for 36/12
Add 6% to residual for 24/12

    No lease cash

Getting quotes on 2018 LE Plus, AWD. 12k/36mo
    MSRP - 38978
Dealer said sales price of 35,800 with 1,000 down has a monthly payment of $377 + tax
    MF .001

    Why do I get $333 + tax?

    Are they manipulating the numbers?

    64% residual

With the MSRP and selling price provided (less $1000), I too get $333/mo.

Ask the dealer what adjusted cap cost they are using for their payment quote, and what they've added to the selling price to get there.

$1000 isn't going to be enough to cover acquisition fee, DMV fees, dealer fees and the first payment. The excess is going to be rolled into the CAP cost.

Hi, looking for advice on the following quote for the Upstate NY area:

2018 Highlander XLE, AWD 12K/36 months
    MF = .00140
    MSRP = $42,099
    RF = 65%
    Adj Cap = $38,829
    Cash down = $2,000
    Monthly Payment = $411

It seems the MF may be inflated based on other discussions here of it being .00100. Thanks for any advice!
