    This was a quote i got for a 18 MDX SH-AWD Base
    MSRP: 46200
    Discount: 7700
    Agreed: 38500
Fee's, Acquisition, Doc, Title....: Close to 3k
    Trade in: 4900
    residual value: I can;t remember but i think it's either 58 or 59
    MF: .00050
    Term: 36/10k
    My total monthly was $315.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I purchased a QX60 just a few days ago and me and my husband were debating if we should buy a QX60 which monthly was $325 (I wrote the full payments on the QX60 discussion line)
The only reason why we did not purchase the MDX was because, We got to keep the QX60 for 3 extra Months  and I had a MDX for more than 10 years now.

In your opinion which one is a better buy?

    -Thanks!

Any upfront money beyond that would be at risk if the car is stolen or totaled during the lease.

    I got the below deal for 36 months; 12000 miles/year; 2018 Acura MDX AWD Tech package in NJ (zip 08844);

    MSRP: $51595
    Offer price: $44355 (excluding taxes,bank fees $595+Documentation fees-$399 +DMV fees-$344+Taxes-$1177)
    Residual: 56%
    MF: 0.00050

    Down payment: $2500
    Monthly payment: $475 (including taxes)

Given your experience, how good this deal is? Is there any scope for further negotiation?

My adjusted cap cost $44,195. Is it a good deal?
With that adjusted CAP, I get $462/mo.

But, the price looks reasonable, either way.
My adjusted cap cost is $43558

Down payment $2500 includes $1685 contribution towards cap cost.

Let me know how it looks?

The lower the adjusted CAP, the farther the calculations get away from their $475/mo. payment

NJ tax is either paid upfront or capitalized, so that doesn't affect the calculation. Either that's the adjusted CAP cost, or it isn't.

    Thanks for your great help.

Can you please let me know in the below calculation, where am I wrong and right?

    1. Sticker price (MSRP) of the car = $51595
    2. Times the residual value percentage =x 0.56
    3. Equals the residual value = $28893
    4. Negotiated selling price of car =$44194
    5. Add in fees = + $1341(Acquisition fee-595+Document fee-399+DMV fee-340+Tyre tax-7.50)
    6. Add lines 4 and 5 to get gross capitalized cost = $45,535
    7. Subtract your down payment = -$2500
    8. This is your adjusted capitalized cost = $43,035
    9. Subtract the residual value from adjusted capitalized cost. This is your depreciation amount.
    $43,035 - $28,893 = $14,132

    10. Divide the depreciation amount by number of months in your lease. This will be your base payment.
    $14,132/36 = $392
    12. Add the adjusted capitalized cost and theresidual value. Take the sum and multiply it by money factor. This is your monthly rent charge.
    ($43,848 + $28,893) x 0.00050 = $36
    13. Add the rent charge to your base payment to get your pretax lease payment
    $392 + $36 = 428
    14. Multiply your tax rate by the pretax lease payment to get the total lease payment.
    $428 x 6.625% = $456

    7) You can't deduct the full $2500 from the CAP cost, if you are making the first payment out of that amount.
    14) NJ doesn't apply tax monthly to the payment. Although that method may come close to approximating the total amount of tax, the tax is collected upfront. If you aren't paying it upfront, then you have to add it to the CAP cost on line 5).

Actually, any non-taxable upfront costs should be deducted from the $2500 upfront, along with the first payment, before applying the balance in line 7).
So, the only thing you would add in line 5) is the acquisition fee and doc fee, as those are taxable.
Then deduct tax/DMV/tire/1st payment from the $2500, and apply the remainder in line 7).

    I got the below deal for 36 months; 12000 miles/year; 2018 Acura MDX AWD Tech package in NJ (zip 08844);

    MSRP: $51595; Offer price: $44355 (excluding taxes,bank fees $595+Documentation fees-$399 +DMV fees-$344+Taxes-$1177); Residual: 56%; MF: 0.00050

Your number $462/month is with tax?
That is my payment using that adjusted CAP.
NJ tax is either paid upfront or capitalized, so that doesn't affect the calculation. Either that's the adjusted CAP cost, or it isn't.

    ($43,848 + $28,893) x 0.00050 = $36
In the other sense, what are the items on which sales tax is applicable?
    1. (adjusted capcost-residual value)
    2. Acquistion fee
    3. Document charges
    4. Is rent charge taxable?

    Thanks for your help
All four of those items are taxable.

With those prices, I get $458/mo.

Assuming that all taxes and fees are being rolled into the payment - have the dealer provide you with the 'adjusted cap cost', and a full accounting of how they reached that number from the selling price.

There is another screen that they aren't showing you.... that shows the adjusted CAP.
Looks like the upfront money is the first payment + DMV fees. ($519 + $312.50)
That means the tax, doc fee and $595 acq.fee are capitalized.
That makes the adjusted CAP = $44758.68

    Result is $519/mo.

I get $492/mo with those numbers.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost associated with that payment quote, and a full breakdown of how they arrived at that number from the selling price.

    That residual is not correct.
If this is the Advance model you were asking about before, the residual is 54%

    I'm in NJ. 6.625.

It probably isn't $52K. Seems they are just throwing numbers at you, without reading them off of the actual quote.

Thank you very much. Does the MSRP or negotiated price include tax or did I do the right thing by adding my state tax (6%) as a plus to the payment price?

Also, do you know if the technology and/or entertainment packages are separated from the residual amount?

Michigan taxes the monthly lease payment, so no need to add it up front.

All options or packages are part of the MSRP, and thus are subject to the residual percentage. It's the bottom line number of the factory window sticker, including destination.

Hi, I am shopping around for a 2018 MDX SH-AWD Tech. Got two questions about the potential lease offer. Please help.

    1. I calculated RV of SH-AWD base on the lease offer on Acura website (as below). It seems that the RV is 59% for 36/10K ($26665/45195). However, my local dealer can only give me 57% for 36/10K and 56% for 36/12K. I asked him about this offer, and he said the 59% is for 36/7.5K. The ad below clearly mentioned 10,000 miles per year. Did I miss anything here? Is 57% normal for 36/10K?

    2. I got $43000 selling price. VA sale tax is 4.15%. Doc fee is $799, and title fee is $46, acquisition fee is $
    598. I calculated the Net Cap Cost is $46224. With RV 57% and MF 0.0005, I got monthly payment $505. Is my calculation correct?

    Thank you!

    1. 36/10 residual on MDX base is 59%; 57% is for every other trim (tech, advance, etc.). Confirm with the dealer what trim level they are quoting.
    2. There is $1750 of lease incentives on the MDX base, which makes your true discount from sticker about $450. Not nearly enough. That said, I get $604/mo with your prices. Not sure where your math differs from mine.

Hi Michael, the quote I got is for SH-AWD with Tech package. I used LeaseMatrics app and my own excel to calculate the monthly payment. Got very close results - about $500. See below. Can’t believe my math is so different from yours. Below is the screenshot. Did I miss anything? Sorry, It will be my first-time Lease. Want to do my homework right. Thank you!

Thank you!

OK, my spreadsheet must have blown a fuse the first time. I'm spot on with that payment, now - $500.88/mo.

Michaell, Thank you so much for checking!

Thank you! So everything in my spreadsheet is complete except for the negotiated price, based upon what I've seen you and the other moderator mention. Do my calculations look correct for what my lease price should be based upon the negotiated price I have?

Where do I put the Government fee and Processing fee?
The dealership quote added tax to the price of the car. Should I be adding tax to the negotiated price (the beginning) or just the tax in addition to the lease payment (the end)?

If they offer me a lease payment higher than what I calculated, how do I negotiate that with them?

Lastly, does the calculated payment assume $0 down? or does this assume the 1st month + other things down?

    Base
    MSRP $47,175.00
    Lease Cash $1,750.00
    Negot. Price $43,570.00
Net Cap Cost (inc. acq. fee) $41,820.00
    Residual 58%

    I agree with that math.

Government fees are non-taxable, so they should be paid up front.

All other fees should go into the cap cost.

Michigan taxes the monthy payment, so you're doing it right.

Only two things will affect the payment - the cap cost and the MF. If the dealer quote is different from yours, confirm what numbers they are using for those parameters.

We suggest you pay only the first payment and registration costs at signing; everything else (dealer doc fee, acquisition fee) should go into the cap cost and payment.

Awesome. So i'll add the government fee into the 1st payment (down payment). Everything else I added into the cap cost. I didn't have them in there originally, so it increased the payment to 499.

I just found out that my 5,000 miles from RDX lease (current) roll-over into my new one. Therefore, I can get away with getting a 10,000 miles/yr lease. Are the numbers different for a 2018 AWD MDX Base 36mo./10k miles? (Michigan)

Hi Micahell - This is the deal, my dealer is showing me. I feel like there is something wrong with the fees and how they came up with the cap fees?

I agree with the math on that worksheet.

I'd ask about the "cap fees" - I already see the acquisition and dealer fees broken out.

And, what are you getting for the $1600 in accessories?

Ok..Is it normal to have some cap fees or their shouldn't be any? The accessories were running boards and roof rails. I'm thinking of scratching them to bring down the month payment. Do you know how much it should bring the down?
  • crob125crob125 Member Posts: 18
They are asking me for $2600 down and only $600 is going towards bringing payment down in this worksheet. I'm not sure what is making up the $2000 for all the fees.
