Not sure if those numbers are regional, so can you give me the relevant factors for a 2019 Jetta SEL lease here in CO?

Let's say 3 years, 10k and 12k miles/year, unless there are more favorable terms for other lengths.

I have a Capitalized Cost ($19,168) = MSRP ($20,645) - Discount ($1,477).
Then my depreciated value per month ($177) = (Residual price - Capitalized Cost) / 36 months
But I must be missing the $300 in here...

locally, most 2019 Jettas are going for 2200-2500 off msrp without any haggling. i think you can get more of a discount off msrp. Also, make sure that 7500 miles per year is enough.

there are cheaper options in the mid-size sedan category...

btw, in the zero down SE example, how can the tax on "cash down and acq fee" be so high (741.93)?

The $300 is a dealer incentive, and part of the discount from sticker.

@tonyg2016 is a good person to listen to .. he has information about the market we mods don't have.

Thanks appreciate all the help. Tony, in response to your question about tax: Total lease cost + Title/Doc fee + Acquisition Fee * sales tax rate = (251.67*36 + 347.50 + 675)*7.375% = 741.93

What? The residual is irrelevant if your buying it out anyway. If it's a 90% residual your buyout/refinance is going to suck, if the residual is 10% your lease is going to suck. If your planning on buying it just finance it for 6 years to get your payments a little lower and save yourself some interest and fees over a lease+finance.

stickguy

the residual matters if the payment is the same. companies can play all kinds of games to get a cheap lease. If you are returning it regardless, does not matter if they cheat on the residual or lease cash. But if you are buying it out, you want the payment low thanks to huge up front incentives to offset a really low residual.

in those situations, then a lease and buy can make sense. But, if they are getting the lease payment low by virtue of an artificially inflated residual, then it makes little sense to buy it out.
