Vehicle: MSRP $71,180; Sales Price: $63,980; Tax: 6%; Government Fees: $600; Acquisition: $925: Term: 36/12K and 58% RV.

Dealer Quote (claim to have used base MF = 0.00177); Payment: $1,150/month with first month as downpayment.

My calculation ($0 down; base MF):
$978/month assuming 6% tax on vehicle price; OR
$1,037 with 6% tax assuming 6% tax on both vehicle price AND monthly payment.

Do you know if the Maryland tax applies to both the vehicle sales price AND each monthly payment? Or how Maryland tax is applied?

Maryland taxes the sales price; I'm guessing this amount is being added into the sales price.

I get $958/mo if I add the sales tax and $925 acquisition fee to the sales price (total $68,744).

If the dealer is quoting you $1150/mo, either the cap cost is way higher than what we think it is, or the MF has been marked up (or, possibly, both).

You'll have to ask the dealer about the fees.

NY dealers are restricted to a $75 doc fee.
TX registration/fees shouldn't be over $300, I don't think.

Also, I didn't think NY dealers could write a lease with MSDs.

But, maybe some of the above doesn't apply, since you are out of state?

But, the point I am making is if the cars do tend to have lower RVs like Maserati and they also have crappy MFs and barely any incentives to make the whole deal palatable, then customers end up with bigger monthly payments and poor end of lease buyout deals.

Leasing has become more expensive, across the board. It's almost impossible to replicate the last lease deal that you had. Either adjust your budget, or suck it up with the new higher payments.

About 13% off sticker is great. Look at cap cost, MF etc very carefully. Sounds good upfront 13% discount but watch out for dealer slipping in hidden fees and stuff. Also, NEVER upfront taxes. I did that once and had to return the car after 2 yrs into lease and then the remaining 12 months of upfronted taxes are free gift to State Govt. Split is monthly. My two cents. Who is the dealer you are getting this from?

Either the MF is marked up, before the MSDs, or the cap cost the dealer is using is higher than the selling price. Ask them for the net cap cost, and what was added to the selling price to get there.

Only thing you should pay up front is first payment and registration costs. Roll everything else into the lease.

The residual on the 42 month term is way worse (50% vs. 59% for 36/10), so that will jack up your payment quite a bit.

In NY, we actually recommend that you pay the tax up front; if you roll it in, you end up paying tax on the tax.

Ask the dealer for the net cap cost used for those quotes.
