  • I musts say for this forum that leasing the KONA makes more sense than any other method since the lease cash is excellent. Even with the acquisition fee of $650 the $4000 lease cash plus your military or recent graduate money make this no brainer. You can pay the thing off like a loan or continue the lease a few month to make sure you like it enough to buy outright. One nice thing about a lease is if it gets damaged and repaired you are not stuck with it.

One more question is cash back of $1250 in addition to the $4400 lease cash?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Posts: 185,264

One more question is cash back of $1250 in addition to the $4400 lease cash?

The $1250 is for purchase only.
Also, it's not valid with the low APR financing, only if you take the standard rates.

  • Thanks to everyones help here, I am VERY close to closing a deal on a 2019 Kona Ultimate. Here are the terms so far.

2019 Kona Ultimate lease, 15k per year, 36 month. Since I live in NJ, and the dealer is in PA, I am still working on clarification for the reg/DMV and taxes. Might need some feedbak on that.

    **MSRP: $30230
**Selling Price: $23100 (after dealer discounts and lease cash)
    **Monthly Payment: $289.53
    **Cash Due at Signing: $968
    **MSD:0
**Incentives: 4400 lease cash...included in price

    **Months:36
    **Annual Mileage:15k
    **MF: 0.00237
    **Residual:53%

    **Region: New Jersey

The confusion here is that he is giving me a price of $500+ for reg and DMV fees which seems high, and also $1000 for tax.

The options are to either pay the fees above upfront and roll the first month and acq fee ($968 total) into the lease, which gives a monthly price of $318, pay the $1500 and the $968 upfront which gives the payment of $298, or pay the $968 upfront and roll the $1500 into the lease, which would increase the payments dramatically...

If the acquisition fee does not include any of this, then what does it include????

Tax in NJ is calculated on the sum of the payments, plus the tax on the incentives - easily $1000.

Our recommendation is to roll everything but the first payment and registration costs into the monthly payment. Less out of pocket, but a higher payment.

However, should the car get stolen or totaled during the lease, you won't lose that up front money you paid for those items. You think the state will refund you the unused sales tax you pre-paid?

So the lease cash is offered by Hyundai on the top of the $750 I see on their site.
    Thanks.

    2019 Kona Ultimate FWD, 36/12 and 36/10

Also, do you know if your "friend of a friend" who lease then purchased the car financed the purchase through Hyundai. And if so, what were the terms?

    Many thanks for your help.

Also, if the Lease Cash you quote, is that what the dealer should give or is just likely to give?

Is Lease Cash off MSRP or negotiated price?

    Thanks again.

Also, why would the lease cash on the Ultimate be $800 less ($4,800 vs. $4,000) within days of each other in Southern California? Trying to understand how that process works.

No explanation for the difference in lease cash amounts. I suppose Hyundai reserves the right to change the incentive amount, without warning.

FWIW, on purchasing after the initial lease, the current dealer is telling us we may only purchase the car after leasing for THREE (3) months. Another dealer checked and told us it could be converted right away. I guess that's something we can handle through Hyundai Finance once the car is in our possession.
