The dealer is mentioning $1000 Memorial Day cash for and first month Sign then drive rebate on the first months payment with nothing due at signing.

Should I expect this to be over and above the $1850 lease cash listed for an SEL FWD or is the Memorial Day cash and sign then drive include or unable to be combined with the $1850?

Yes, we've seen the $1000 added recently, and does stack with the lease cash

The dealer that I am working with is stating that the $1850 lease cash (SEL FWD 70001) is being applied as a “dealer discount” off MSRP, while the $1000 SEL bonus cash of coming off as a Cap Cost adjustment.

    MSRP $45,040
    I would put $1,000 down
    Gross Cap $42,190 ($1000 down, $1850 off)
    Adj Cap $41,190 ($1000 rebate)

Is it common practice to consider lease cash as a discount off of MSRP?  In my last few leases the lease cash/rebates were always a cap cost adjustment. Either way the bigger problem is the dealer will not (truly) budge off of MSRP regardless of where the incentives are applied.

In my experience, I always negotiate down from the invoice price, not MSRP. If not, I find another dealer.

While the concept of "invoice" is whatever the dealer says it is, I agree that I'd simply move on from any dealer that isn't offering a discount from sticker, before applying the incentives.

It's not like the Atlas is setting any sales records...

The $1850 is a VW to dealer incentive, and reflected in the discounted price.

The $1000 is a customer discount that shows as a cap reduction on the contract.

That's true... the lease cash is a VW-to-dealer incentive, and will already be accounted for within their discounted sale price

The $1000 is a customer rebate, applied as a CAP cost reduction.

Who decides what the invoice price is? Your internet research? Or, the dealer?
And, if invoice is the actual dealer cost, then how could they go below it?

At least with the MSRP, it is a verifiable number. As long as you get the lowest price possible, it doesn't matter how you get there. The best way to get a low price, is to shop multiple dealers.

I'm searching for a VW Atlas lease. Zip is 91324. I got the following quote as the "best offer":

VW Atlas V6 SEL Premium with 4Motion.
    MSRP: $50,555
    Dealer discount: $5,000
    36 Months
    12,000 miles/yr
    Zero-Drive off
Monthly Payment with Tax: $650 (but they said they would do $630 if I sign on the spot, which I declined for now)

My concern is that when I researched this exact make/model, the great lease deals I saw for 15,000 miles/yr was $630. I told the salesman that I want $630 with 15,000 miles/yr or $600 with 12,000.

May I being unreasonable here? Is the above offer a good lease deal that I should take? Or should I keep shopping?

    Thanks.

You'll need to get the adjusted cap cost, with the fees added in, for us to evaluate the offer.

It never hurts to keep shopping different dealers. And, you want to shop the price, not the payment.

Thanks, Michaell. In addition to the adjusted cap cost plus fees added in, is there any other info I would need to ask them for? I will send the sales rep an email tomorrow with a list of all the info I want from them.

Also, can you please confirm if my understanding of the numbers you provided are accurate? I want to make sure I am on the same page as you.

    .00138 = Money Factor

55% = Residual: does this number represent the lowest residual the dealer is willing to go down to (in other words, the dealer will never go below 55% residual value on a deal)?

$1400 = cash lease incentive currently available on this vehicle (in other words, we should be able to get $1400 on top of the $5,000 dealer discount). Is that correct?

    Thanks.

Oh, I always found it easy to find each car's invoice price by using the Edmunds TMV tool or Truecar's. I build out the car on there with the options as shown on the window sticker and the invoice price shown on those tools tends to match up pretty well by the time I compare it to the dealer's invoice (which I always ask for). I base my offer off invoice and any lease cash/incentives, sometimes it works right away, sometimes it takes longer but in the end, I've been able to come through for my friends and fam using this method.

I'd like to to take this opportunity to thank you guys for all the work you do moderating this forum and for all the great information you provide including true money factors and residuals. Without it, I wouldn't be able to feel comfortable going into the lion's den to negotiate deals.

.00138 MF is the base MF for top tier credit. The dealer can mark this up for additional revenue.

The residual is fixed by the bank. The dealer cannot change it.

The incentive is VW-to-dealer. There will be no accounting for it on your paperwork. Their offer is their offer.

Hello. Kindly provide the MF, residual, and incentives for a 36/12 in 90650 for the following please: SE FWD with Tech: SE FWD with Tech / R line: Thank you in advance
.00072 MF and 53% residual Tech: $2025 dealer lease cash Tech/Rline: $1900 dealer lease cash
As per dealer 53% RV is for 7500 mileage. Pls advise
Dealer is wrong; I confirm 53% for 36/12 on Atlas FWD But, be advised that there is a new $750 incentive on the Atlas FWD for the trim levels you've requested

Thanks for the clarification. So this new 750 is in addition to the 2025 for the tech?
    Correct
Hello Michaell. This 2025 + 750 lease cash/incentive is avail to all/general public? Or does it require certain criteria like new graduates/first responder/etc..? Also, most dealers only show the 750 incentive. Where Is the 2025 coming from or what kind of incentive is it? Thank you for your patience to my questions.

Have the incentives changed since earlier this month? I know there is dealer to consumer cash available but otherwise, has anything changed?

Earlier this month, in 20015, 36/12 incentives for the AWD Atlas in following trims were

    .00138 MF and 55% residual
Tech - $1325 dealer lease cash
    SEL - $250
    SEL Premium - $zero

Understand these incentives to be stackable with the dealer to customer cash ($750 for tech and $1000 for SEL), correct?

    Thanks.

    .00138 and 55%
    $1400 lease cash

You'll need to get the adjusted cap cost, with the fees added in, for us to evaluate the offer.

It never hurts to keep shopping different dealers. And, you want to shop the price, not the payment.
I spoke with the sales rep and got a breakdown of all the numbers for you.

VW Atlas V6 SEL Premium with 4Motion
    MSRP: $50,555
    Selling Price: $45,000
    Government Fees: $366.50
    Dock Fees: $85.00
    Acquisition Fees: $675.00
    Gross Cap Cost: $46,011.50
Adjusted Cap Cost after $1,000 rebate: $45,808.93
    Residual for 36 month lease: 55% for 12,000 miles/year and 53% for 15,000 miles/year
    Money Factor: 0.00138

    Monthly payments after tax with zero drive-off: $655.11 for 12,000 miles/year and $685.35 for 15,000 miles/year.

I asked him about the $1,4000 lease cash. He said that was the $1,000 rebate. When I asked why it was $400 less, he couldn't give me an explanation.

I would appreciate any help on figuring out if this is a good deal or not because this is my first time negotiating a lease with the info/knowledge I learned on this forum.

You mentioned that I should negotiate price and not monthly payments, which is what I have been trying to do. But what should I use to determine if it is a good deal or not if I do not want to focus on the monthly payment?

These numbers are higher than what I am getting on lease calculators. For example, the lease calculator at LeaseHackr with the above information on a zero-drive off lease says the monthly payment should be as follows: $580 for 12,000 miles/year and $630 for 15,000 miles/year.

    Thanks for the help.

The $2025 is VW-to-dealer money. Use your knowledge of it to negotiate a low selling price.

Nothing has changed, other than the customer cash.

Technically, you aren't "stacking" the incentives, as one incentive is for the dealer, and the other is for the customer. But, they are compatible.

The lease cash is a VW-to-dealer incentive. You won't see it in your deal. (except hopefully in a low selling price. It has nothing to do with the $1000. With the numbers provided (which are very detailed and complete), I get a payment of $602.mo+tax, which makes the $655/mo number appear to be correct for 36/12

If I were structuring the lease, I'd pay the first payment, govt fees upfront. When you roll them in, you are paying slightly more tax. That would be about $990 Due at signing, and would drop the payment to about $622/mo.

Could you be so kind as to provide Residual and MF for a 36/30 lease on a SEL Premium 4Motion and FWD, zip code 34786.

Also, is 36 months a better financial structure than 39 months? Both would be at 10k miles per year.
